Chapter 209: Chapter 209: Guess
Jake smirked, the fake gentleness on his face disappeared the next second.
“Little cat, you are a human, right?”
Su Jiyai rolled her eyes. If she wasn’t, can she still understand the mask of tenderness Jake was wearing?
From starting she didn’t buy the bullsh*t of longing and self-sacrificing.
“Clever human,” Jake commented. “You know I have enacted this act more than 20 times, and each of them fell for it. But you…you cleverly dodged it. Maybe you are a man?”
The bored blue cat, only gave a glance to Jake, as if calling out Jake for being childish.
Jake chuckled.
He was truly intrigued. If chance given he wanted to peer at the interesting soul residing in the blue cat.
However the time was running out, and he decided to clear his doubts first,
“You are a human, right? And don’t lie to me. I want the truth. I have a deal. A tempting deal.”
Su Jiyai tapped on Jake’s thigh, signaling him to continue.
“I will help you to deal with the general. In return, you will help me to get my memory back.”
Su Jiyai was stunned.
Memory? What memory?
As if sensing the question in Su Jiyai’s mind, Jake explained,
“You might have wondered as to why I didn’t leave this institute, right? Or maybe thinking what this institute is, how it is operating till now, who those soldiers were, etc.”
Su Jiyai nodded slowly, signaling for Jake to continue with his explanation.
Jake leaned back against the wall,
“You see, this institute? It’s not just a simple facility for research. This place, where we are right now, is the head branch.
But there are other branches spread out, some of them connected directly to the military. The institute’s goal? To create a formula.”
Su Jiyai’s ears perked up, though she maintained her expression of disinterest.
There are other branches too?
So it means the institute at Aurora base was a side branch too?
And what did he say? A formula? What formula?
Could it be…
Jake noticed her subtle shift in attention and continued.
“Yes, you heard me right—a formula. One that can awaken superpowers in people. They want to standardize the process, make it so anyone could just drink a potion or take an injection, and—bam! Superhuman.”
Su Jiyai, though she couldn’t speak, mentally scoffed at the idea. It sounded absurd to her.
From her understanding, powers couldn’t be forced through artificial means like potions or injections.

Everyone had latent potential within their bodies, yes, but awakening that power was different for every individual.
The idea that the institute could create a one-size-fits-all solution seemed impossible.
When she had rescued Huo Ning earlier, she had mentioned that they had tried to awaken her powers through various injections and machines.
Su Jiyai had thought it was ridiculous back then, and hearing it now, from Jake, didn’t make it any more believable.
How could something as profound and unique as a superpower be created by a mere chemical formula?
But Jake continued as if reading her thoughts.
“I know what you’re thinking. Ridiculous, right? I used to think the same. But the institute doesn’t care.
They’re obsessed with the idea of creating a perfect method. They want to be able to give power to anyone they choose. And trust me, they’ve tried everything.
Potions, serums, injections, radiation, even bizarre machines designed to trigger powers artificially.”
Su Jiyai felt a pang of disgust.
It wasn’t just that the idea was flawed—it was the sheer disregard for human life that was evident in these experiments.
Wait…
An idea flashed in Su Jiyai’s mind.
Could it be the institute is…
Jake’s voice grew darker as he continued,
“But here’s the thing: they haven’t succeeded. Not yet, anyway. Instead, their experiments have created something else.
Something worse. They’ve made creatures—beings that are no longer human, but not quite fully evolved superhumans either.”
Su Jiyai’s fur bristled at the mention of creatures.
She had seen enough horrors in this world to know that human experimentation often led to unspeakable outcomes.
Creatures… Did that mean mutants? Monsters?
(Author: I will release 3 chapters a day if anyone tells the future plot this sentence is pointing out.)
Jake nodded as if sensing her reaction.
“A few of these creatures managed to escape the institute’s control. They’re out there, somewhere.
And by now, I’d bet anything that some of them have already turned into zombies or worse. The institute doesn’t care, though. They keep experimenting, creating more chaos as they go.”
Su Jiyai was processing the information, but she was also carefully considering Jake’s motives.
Why was he telling her all this? What did he stand to gain from revealing the institute’s secrets? And what was this about recovering his memory?
Jake’s eyes flicked to her, gauging her reaction before he continued.
“The soldiers you saw earlier—the ones in those white temperature-controlled suits? They’re not just here to defend the institute. They’re used for something far worse.
The institute deploys them to terrorize other bases, to keep everyone else in check. If any base dares to rise against the institute or cause trouble, those soldiers are sent in to destroy, to wreak havoc.
They create chaos wherever they go, ensuring no one has the power to oppose the institute.”
Su Jiyai’s tail flicked in irritation as Jake’s words painted an even darker picture of the institute’s operations.
Not only were they conducting these horrific experiments, but they were also using their resources to crush any opposition.
Jake glanced down at her, his expression unreadable.
“And that’s not all. They also use those soldiers to raid other bases, capturing more humans to bring back for experimentation.
The institute is constantly searching for new test subjects. People like you, people like me. They don’t care who they hurt, as long as they get what they need.”
Su Jiyai’s eyes flashed as many thoughts flashed in her mind. She understood what the institute was and its motive.
Only two questions remained.
Was her guess correct? And why was Jake telling everything to her?
