Chapter 210: Chapter 210: Daze
“You might be wondering why I’m telling you all of this,” Jake said, his gaze never leaving Su Jiyai’s feline eyes.
“At first, I had every intention of killing you. It would’ve been easier to eliminate, I thought you were just another stray cat irritating and stupid. But then I learned something about you. Something that changed my mind.”
Su Jiyai narrowed her eyes but remained silent, waiting for him to continue.
She wasn’t entirely convinced Jake had abandoned the idea of killing her, but his sudden change of tone piqued her interest.
“I realized,” Jake continued, his expression becoming thoughtful, “that you’re not just any ordinary person—or, should I say, any ordinary cat.
You have a unique ability, one I’ve never encountered before. You can open portals. And not just any portals, but portals to different worlds, especially… a vampire world.”
Jake observed her reaction closely before speaking again.
“I’m not sure if you fully understand what that means, but it’s why I didn’t kill you on sight. You’re useful to me. I need you. And I need you to help me get my memory back.”
Su Jiyai blinked slowly, processing his words.
This was about his memory? What did that have to do with her abilities? And why was his memory so important?
As if sensing her silent questions, Jake elaborated,
“Since the time I’ve been in this institute, they’ve told me that they created me. That I’m one of their ‘experiments.’ But something about that doesn’t sit right with me.
I don’t think they created me—not entirely, at least. If they did, there would be more like me. But I’ve never encountered anyone else like me, which raises too many questions.”
He paused, frowning as if the very act of thinking about his origins brought him discomfort.
“The institute’s been using me, controlling me with hypnosis. They’ve put something in my mind—some kind of mental block.
If I even think about opposing them, the pain is… unbearable. Like being skinned alive from the inside out.”
Su Jiyai’s tail flicked in thought. Hypnosis? A mental block? Interesting.
What if she…
A smirk appeared on Su Jiyai’s face.
But why was Jake telling her this? He had just admitted to trying to kill her earlier.
Now he was revealing all his vulnerabilities? She didn’t buy it. There had to be more to this story.
Jake seemed to sense her skepticism and raised a hand as if to calm her.
“I know you don’t trust me. I don’t blame you. But I need your help to break free from this control. To recover my memory, to find out who I really am. That’s where you come in.”
Su Jiyai gave him a questioning look, raising an eyebrow as if to say,
And how do you expect me to help you with that?
Jake smiled faintly.
“I have certain questions I need answers to, and I think you’re the only one who can give me those answers. If you answer them honestly, I believe I can figure out how to use your abilities to achieve my goal.”
Su Jiyai narrowed her eyes, staring at him intently.
Was that really his plan? He didn’t seem like someone who would rely on others to figure things out for him.

If anything, it sounded like he was fishing for information—trying to learn more about her powers and how to exploit them.
Still, she didn’t back away. The information Jake had shared so far was valuable
And if…only if…his words were true then…she has figured out the way to protect herself.
With a slow nod, Su Jiyai indicated her willingness to answer his questions, at least for now.
She knew she had to stay on her guard, but she also needed to keep Jake talking.
Jake’s faint smile widened,
“Good. Let’s start with something simple, then. Are you human?”
Su Jiyai’s gaze didn’t waver.
She nodded her head slowly, already guessing that Jake knew the answer.
He was merely testing her, probing to see if she would be truthful with him. Her nod was her way of playing along, for now.
Jake leaned forward slightly, his eyes narrowing.
“Next question—did you already know about the existence of the institute before you got involved here?”
Su Jiyai shook her head. In truth, she hadn’t known about the institute’s full scope until recently.
But Jake didn’t seem satisfied with her answer.
His eyes bore into hers, and he repeated the question, his voice firmer this time. “Are you sure? Give me the true answer.”
For a moment, Su Jiyai met his gaze steadily.
Then, without warning, she raised her paw and scratched his cheek.
Jake yelped in surprise, a thin line of blood forming where her claws had grazed his skin.
“Ahh! What the hell was that for?” Jake shouted, instinctively raising his hand to his cheek.
He winced, glaring at the blue cat perched on his lap.
Su Jiyai remained calm, her expression indifferent. But she held Jake’s gaze until a flash of guilt passed over his face.
He sighed, lowering his hand. “Alright, alright, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that.”
Su Jiyai’s eyes flicked with understanding.
Jake had tried to use a daze skill on her—a subtle technique to influence or manipulate someone’s mind.
But Su Jiyai had seen through it instantly
It wasn’t the first time someone(the system) had tried to manipulate her, and it likely wouldn’t be the last.
Jake rubbed his cheek, still nursing the light scratch.
“You’re stronger than I thought… That daze skill has never failed before. I wonder why it doesn’t work on you.”
Does he truly think that she didn’t see how his mesmerizing red eyes glowed with an eerie glow? Stupid.
Coughing to clear the awkward tension, Jake moved on to his next question.
“Are you related to Boss Su’s base?”
Su Jiyai’s eyes widened slightly in surprise, though she kept her face expressionless.
How does he know about that? she wondered.
