Chapter 211: Chapter 211: Search
Jake noticed her subtle reaction and pressed on.
“I’ve been putting things together. The way you handled the general, the way you took down Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan… It all points to someone with serious experience.
Plus, I overheard the general and the others talking about wiping out Boss Su’s base. It wasn’t hard to guess that you might be connected.”
Su Jiyai’s eyebrow arched as if to ask, And how did you overhear that conversation?
Jake shrugged as if the answer wasn’t important. He ignored her questioning gaze and continued with his interrogation.
“Can you control where people are sent when they’re sucked into your portal?”
Su Jiyai shook her head, her powers still too unpredictable for such precise control. She had never been able to decide where the portals would lead.
Jake frowned but accepted her answer. “Do you have any powers besides fire and opening portals?”
Once again, Su Jiyai shook her head.
Jake sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Alright. I’ve got a lot to think about now.”
On the other hand, the general checked the CCTV footage, but to his dismay he found nothing. Someone had secretly deleted all the footage.
In fact, when Jake influenced the soldier, Su Jiyai pointed at the camera and motioned him to deal with the CCTV footage.
The general frowned and scolded the guard responsible for monitoring everything.
The guard repeatedly apologizes.
“You don’t deserve this job. Drag this person to the experiment room.” The general commanded.
The guard kept on apologizing and struggled but it was all futile.
With a grim expression, the general sat on the chair.
Things were going in a good direction.
What was even more infuriating was he couldn’t find Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan.
“Where the hell are these two.”
He didn’t suspect Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan were in danger.
Even though the footage had been deleted, only half an hour had passed since he met them.
What could possibly happen to them in just half an hour?
However, the other side of his brain was worrying whether someone was indeed successful in kidnapping them.
The general sat in his dimly lit office, frustration gnawing at him as he paced back and forth.
His subordinates had left at his command, and now, he was left alone to deal with the nagging suspicion growing in his mind.
He stared at the satellite phone on his desk, his fingers hovering over it.
Should he call his superiors and inform them of the situation with Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan? Or should he wait it out and handle the matter himself?
After a few tense moments, he sighed and picked up the phone, only to put it back in his pocket.

Instead, he decided to give his subordinates another task.
Reaching for the intercom, he ordered them to search the institute thoroughly one more time.
“I want every inch of this place searched again,” the general commanded. “Check the labs, the corridors, even the storage rooms. And find Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan!”
His voice crackled through the speakers, and his men immediately sprang into action. The search was on.
Hours had passed, and there was still no sign of Dr. Mei or Dr. Pan.
The general’s subordinates were growing frustrated.
On their third sweep of the institute, however, they finally found something.
In one of the storage rooms, hidden away behind a stack of medical supplies, lay two figures, unconscious and unresponsive.
“General!” one of the guards called out over the radio.
“We’ve found Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan! They’re unconscious but alive.”
The general let out a sigh of relief.
Finally, some progress. He rushed to the scene, finding the two scientists lying on the cold floor, their breathing shallow but steady.
“Get the medical team here immediately,” the general barked. “I want them examined thoroughly.”
Within minutes, the institute’s medical personnel arrived, wheeling in gurneys and running diagnostic tests on the unconscious doctors.
Despite their best efforts, they couldn’t determine the exact cause of the comas.
The doctors ran every test they could think of—blood work, brain scans, physical exams—but nothing out of the ordinary showed up.
Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan were in perfect health, except for their mysterious coma state.
“We can’t find anything physically wrong with them,” one of the medics reported to the general. “It’s as if they just… shut down.”
The general’s frown deepened.
This wasn’t good. Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan were crucial to the institute’s research, and now they were incapacitated for who knew how long.
He needed to decide how to handle this.
Should he report the incident to the higher-ups? Or should he cover it up for now and hope they will recover soon?
After a long pause, the general made his decision.
“We won’t report this to the boss. Not yet. We’ll keep this under wraps until we have more information. Understand?”
The subordinates nodded, and the medical team continued their work.
Meanwhile, Jake and Su Jiyai, who had hidden themselves in a dark corner of the facility, watched with amused expressions.
Jake glanced down at Su Jiyai, his smirk widening.
“Brilliant plan, by the way,” Jake whispered, his eyes gleaming.
“How did you even come up with it?”
Su Jiyai puffed out her chest proudly, though she gave no verbal response.
Her sly grin and raised head said it all: she knew she was a mastermind.
Just an hour earlier, Su Jiyai had spotted the search teams combing through the institute.
With her usual quick thinking, she gestured to Jake, motioning for him to follow her lead.
Using a series of subtle signals, she explained her idea—find two shapeshifters, influence them into going into a coma, and have them impersonate Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan.
Without hesitation, Jake set off to execute her plan.
Finding shapeshifters in the institute wasn’t too difficult—there were plenty of them, especially among the newer recruits.
After a bit of reconnaissance, Jake identified two perfect candidates: fresh-faced, highly talented, impressionable shapeshifters who had only recently joined the institute.
