Chapter 215: Chapter 215: Crystal Cove
Dong Shin’s jaw tightened, but he held his tongue. Liu Feng glanced at him, a faint smirk tugging at his lips, but he, too, remained silent.
Wang Qingshan’s gaze swept over both men. “You are generals of the military, not kids, so behave like a general.”
Dong Shin and Liu Feng lowered their head and replied simultaneously,
“Yes general.”
Wang Qingshan waved at them as if signaling them to leave.
Once outside the office, Liu Feng gave a dark look to Dong Shin and muttered,
“I know you are smart and greedy, but let me warn you, Boss Su is not someone you should mess with. If you scheme against her, you will end with nothing.”
Dong Shin sneered,
“She is just a woman. What can she do? Do you think she is invincible? Heh! Let me tell you, when Chen Mu attacked the people of her base she remained silent.
Even after Chen Mu’s continuous provocation she at most made the security guard of Chen Mu’s base dance. Hahaha! So childish!”
A complicated expression appeared on Liu Feng’s face. He wondered whether Dong Shin was truly an idiot or did he had overlooked the important points.
Making the security guard dance to her tunes, Boss Su showed how powerless the Raven Base was.
The citizens of Raven Base didn’t think much when they got to know about the base’s security dancing in front of Boss Su instead of harming her.
But they felt humiliated in their heart. At the same time in their subconscious mind, their base became a relatively less powerful base.
So when the misery struck their base, the first person that came to their mind was Boss Su.
Still, Liu Feng couldn’t help but speak up one last time.
“You underestimate Boss Su at your own peril. She doesn’t need brute force to dismantle her enemies. Sometimes a subtle move is far deadlier than an outright attack.”
Dong Shin dismissed Liu Feng’s warning with a wave of his hand.
“Keep your lectures to yourself, General Liu. I have more important matters to attend to than listen to your fantasies about Boss Su’s so-called brilliance.”
With that, Dong Shin strode away, his boots clicking sharply against the polished floor.
As Dong Shin made his way back to his quarters, his mind churned with plans.
Boss Su may have fooled Liu Feng with her theatrics, but I’m not so easily swayed.
‘She’s a businesswoman, not a warrior. I’ll exploit her weaknesses and take everything she values.’
……………….
In Crystal Cove.
Xi Ping returned after completing the daily quest given by her base.
Her footsteps echoed in the quiet hallway as she made her way to the counter.
She had been doing the same mind-numbing tasks every day for weeks, hunting zombies for their crystals and handing them over to the base in exchange for paltry rations.
But this was just the cost of living in Crystal Cove.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
The deal was unfair — that much she knew.
The base demanded 30 level 2 zombie crystals and 10 level 3 zombie crystals every day, which was already a grueling task.
The only reward they gave in return was 10 buns and a single packet of pickles. But the base had its own twisted logic.
According to the rules, these crystals were required to fund the base’s security.
But in reality, it was all politics.
The higher-ups place their daughter, son, niece, nephews, and other relatives in the security team and all the crystals are given to them.
It makes the strong become more strong and the weak become even weaker.
Yet many people agreed to live in the base because it provided them the stability and security when they slept at night.
She reached the counter, a small, dimly lit station tucked in the corner of the bustling hall.
Behind the counter sat a man, his face blank and disinterested, as he shuffled through papers.
He looked up when Xi Ping approached, but the expression in his eyes made it clear he wasn’t particularly interested in her success today.
“Here are the 30 level 2 crystals and 10 level 3 crystals,” Xi Ping said, her voice steady despite the resentment brewing in her chest.
The man gave her a bored look, barely glancing at the pile of crystals she handed over.
With a slow, deliberate motion, he placed the crystals into a drawer and then spoke in a tone that felt like an afterthought.
“From tomorrow onwards, the mission difficulty will increase,” he said, his eyes never leaving his tablet screen. “Expect more work for the same reward.”
Xi Ping’s heart sank, but she immediately forced herself to keep a calm facade. “More work?” she echoed, her voice sharp now.
“What, are you telling me I’m supposed to collect more than this? For the same meal and pathetic allowance?”
The man didn’t even flinch at her tone.
He rolled his eyes, obviously bored by her response.
But then, as if something occurred to him, he gave her a suggestive look, his lips curling into a grin that was both mocking and lecherous.
“You know,” he started, leaning slightly closer to the counter, “if you’re really tired of all this, maybe you can… accompany me tonight. In return, I’ll make sure your daily fees are reduced. Compared to the other bases, Crystal Cove is a bit more lenient with… special arrangements.”
Xi Ping recoiled in disgust.
It wasn’t the first time she’d heard such lewd propositions from the men at the base, but it always enraged her.
After in base to earn one’s stay they could either complete daily missions or serve the higher ups but even that would only reduce the daily fees by half.
The base was built on exploitation, and this man’s words were a glaring reminder of how the system treated women like her — as commodities to be bartered and used.
“Greedy… too greedy,” Xi Ping muttered to herself, the words sour on her tongue.
“I’m not interested,” she snapped at the counter man, forcing herself to stand tall, even as a bitter knot tightened in her stomach.
The idea of staying here longer was suffocating her. But there was no easy escape.
