Chapter 219: Chapter 219: Woken Up
2 weeks passed.
The general was busy handling the institute without Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan. Sometimes he was even tempted to call his boss and tell the truth. The pressure of handling the institute on his own was too much to bear. It was slowly starting to weigh him down.
However, every time he remembers the consequences of making a mistake and the punishment he will receive, the general can only hold back.
What frustrated him more was the depraved vampire who for some reason likes to stroll around the training area more and more.
Not that he never doubted him. The general even had a suspicion that Jake was behind the current situation of Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan, but he lacked substantial evidence.
His suspicion further deepened when he saw a crackhead cat of unknown origin strolling beside him.
Yet the general knew the truth. Jake could never go against Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan. The psychological hints in his mind would prevent him from taking any action.
With no other choice, the general could only monitor them for the first few days, but slowly the institute’s matter started to keep him busy to the point he couldn’t even visit Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan.
In between he would catch the crackhead cat teasing some soldiers causing them to chase after it.
The general turned a blind eye to it. He wished someone among those soldiers would kill the cat.
He hated furry animals.
In a blink of an eye, 2 weeks passed.
One day as the general was dealing with some research work, he received a message on his communicator: Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan have woken up.
Without hesitation, the general rushed down the hallways, his footsteps echoing through the cold, sterile corridors.
Relief mixed with an unshakable tension coiled in his gut.
His mind raced—what had happened to them? Why had they been unconscious in a storage room? And what had caused them to lose control in the first place?
When he arrived at the medical room, he found Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan sitting up in their beds, deep in conversation.
The tension in his chest eased slightly.
They were awake, and they seemed well. He couldn’t hear what they were discussing, but he caught phrases like “last phase of the breeding process” and “synchronization of the subjects.”
Dr. Mei looked up as he entered, her expression calm and unreadable as usual.
“General,” she greeted him with her usual level tone, but there was a strange intensity in her gaze.
Dr. Pan nodded in acknowledgment, though there was an edge to his expression, a kind of simmering anger beneath the surface.
The general felt a wave of relief wash over him.
“Dr. Mei, Dr. Pan,” he began, his voice tight with the remnants of his anxiety.
“I’m glad to see you both awake. What happened? You were found unconscious in a storage room. Do you know what caused it?”
Dr. Mei’s face darkened slightly, a hint of anger flashing in her usually composed demeanor.
“We’ll explain everything later,” she said sharply, her voice cold.
“But first, there’s something we need to address. We need Jake here, along with your most trusted subordinates.”
The general blinked in confusion, caught off guard by her sudden demand.

“Why do you need them?” he asked, his brow furrowing in suspicion.
Dr. Pan, clearly less patient than Dr. Mei, shot him an irritated look.
“Just do as we say, General. There’s no time to waste.”
Dr. Mei added,
“And make sure to find that blue cat that’s been following Jake. It must not enter this room under any circumstances.”
The general stiffened at the mention of the cat.
He had suspected there was something strange about it.
He had thought of simply killing the creature before, but now that Dr. Mei had specifically mentioned it, he began to think that perhaps the cat was more important than he’d realized.
“Should I just kill it?” he asked, hoping to eliminate one of his lingering problems.
Dr. Mei shook her head firmly.
“No. The cat is vital to our research. It cannot be killed. We need it alive.”
The general nodded, though he was even more confused now.
Why was a seemingly harmless cat so important? Still, he didn’t argue.
He gave them a brisk nod before heading out, though unease gnawed at him.
As he turned to leave, a sudden instinct told him to leave a part of his shadow behind, a precautionary measure.
He had the ability to split his shadow into multiple entities, each of which could observe and report back to him.
He discreetly left a fragment of his shadow in the corner of the room, watching silently.
Once outside the medical room, the general called Jake, his voice clipped and authoritative. “Where’s the cat?”
Jake shrugged, barely glancing at him. “Playing somewhere, I guess. It’s a cat. Why?”
The general’s temper flared.
Jake had always been disrespectful, but now, with the pressure mounting, it was harder to tolerate.
His jaw tightened as he stared Jake down.
“Go to the medical room. Now.”
Jake raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. “Why?”
“I gave you an order, Jake,” the general snapped, his voice hardening. “Do it.”
Gritting his teeth, Jake finally obeyed, turning and walking toward the medical room with obvious reluctance.
The general followed him, his eyes narrowing as they reached the door.
Once Jake was inside, the general locked it from the outside, sealing Jake in with the doctors and his most trusted subordinates.
But his mind wasn’t at ease.
Something still felt wrong.
Using his shadow, the general monitored the room.
He couldn’t hear the conversation, but he could see the tension in Jake’s face as he was forced to kneel by one of the subordinates.
Dr. Mei and Dr. Pan stood over him, their expressions unreadable.
The general’s lips curled into a small, satisfied smile.
It seemed that his suspicions about Jake were correct after all.
