Chapter 230: Chapter 230: Letter
It led to an old maintenance corridor that had long been forgotten by the base’s administrators.
Sliding into the tunnel, she began crawling through the darkness, her heart pounding with fear.
Freedom was close, but so were the dangers that awaited her outside the safety of the base. For Xi Ping, there was no turning back now.
……
The men from the vice president’s entourage stood outside the door, impatience starting to creep into their demeanor.
They had been waiting for far too long.
The deal had been struck—there was no reason for them to wait any longer.
The girl, Xi Ping, was supposed to have been handed over by now, but the minutes stretched into what felt like an eternity.
One of the men, a tall figure with a cruel smile that never seemed to leave his face, glanced at his watch for the third time. His patience was running out.
“What’s taking so long?” he growled, his voice filled with growing frustration. “Why hasn’t she been brought to us yet?”
Another man, slightly shorter with a sharp, angular face, leaned against the wall and crossed his arms.
“I don’t care what excuses you have for us, Wei family, but this better be worth it. We’re not here to waste time.”
The foster father, standing near the door with a nervous frown, tried to placate the men.
“Please, gentlemen, please! She’s just a little difficult, you know? Wei Long will bring her any moment now. He’s been taking care of her personally.”
“Personally?” The tall man scoffed. “If he’s taking care of her, then why hasn’t he come back yet?”
The foster mother, standing beside her husband, wrung her hands in anxious desperation.
“He… he’s just… he’s making sure she’s ready for you. You know how these things go, right?”
The vice president’s men weren’t convinced.
The longer the silence stretched, the more their irritation turned into anger. With an air of finality, the tall man turned on his heels.
“Enough with the excuses,” he barked. “If Wei Long doesn’t come out soon, we’ll go in ourselves. Get ready.”
The foster father panicked, his voice rising in panic.
“No, no, wait! I assure you, he will be out soon. Just give us a few more minutes.” But it was clear that his words no longer held any weight with the vice president’s men.
Within moments, the door to the room was flung open with such force that it banged against the wall, rattling the flimsy frame.
The men stormed inside without hesitation, their boots hitting the floor with the sound of heavy steps.
They froze as their eyes fell upon the unexpected sight.
Wei Long, the one person who had been tasked with watching over Xi Ping, lay sprawled on the floor, motionless, with a crumpled piece of paper clutched in his hand.
Blood smeared his face, his nose broken from the punch Xi Ping had landed earlier.
His body was limp, completely unresponsive. The men’s eyes flicked to the paper, its presence so out of place in the chaotic scene before them.
The tall man’s lip curled into a sneer.

“What the hell is this?” he muttered, his voice dripping with scorn.
One of the men stepped forward, his booted feet skimming across the floor as he picked up the letter from Wei Long’s hand.
He unfolded it with a sharp tug, scanning the words quickly. His face grew darker as he read.
“To my dearest foster parents,
I cannot express how grateful I am to you both for saving me from being sold to the vice president.
When that rich man offered you two whole bags of instant noodles and rice to take me away, I was overwhelmed by your generosity in choosing his offer over the vice president’s.
I never imagined you would change your mind and decide to help me escape.
Thank you for convincing the vice president’s men to wait while you finalized the deal. It must have been difficult for you to delay them for so long, but your efforts were not in vain.
Please don’t worry about Wei Long. The rich man was a bit… rough when he came to retrieve me.
He used teleportation to get us out quickly, but not before teaching your son a lesson for his… indiscretions. Wei Long will be fine after some rest.
Oh, and the rich man left a gift for you in the secret room under the fourth tile from the entrance. I hope the instant noodles and rice will bring you some comfort.
With all my love and gratitude,
Xi Ping”
The man’s anger flared, but he continued reading with intensity.
As his eyes scanned the page, he grew increasingly enraged.
The letter detailed the exact location of the supposed secret room, right under the 4th tile from the entrance.
“Son of a—” he muttered, clutching the letter in his hand and glaring at the foster parents.
The foster father, still too dazed from the shock of the situation, was slow to react.
His eyes widened as the men looked at him with accusation in their gaze.
“You told us she was under control,” the tall man growled. “But instead, we get this—this mockery, a game at our expense!”
The man’s eyes shot to the foster parents, and his fist slammed into the nearest wall in frustration.
“Get out of my way,” he snarled, pushing past them toward the door. The other men followed closely, seething with anger, with the letter still clutched tightly in his hand.
The tension in the room was suffocating, and it was clear that the men weren’t going to be easily appeased.
They stormed out, searching for the fourth tile beneath which Xi Ping claimed to have the instant noodles and rice.
The tall man spat on the ground in disgust as he pulled up the fourth tile, revealing a hidden compartment underneath.
His eyes widened as he saw the two large bags of instant noodles and rice stacked neatly inside, just as Xi Ping’s letter had claimed.
“Bastards,” one of the men hissed. “This whole time we’ve been lied to!”
