Chapter 231: Chapter 231: Revenge
“Don’t just stand there, do something!” the tall man shouted, his face twisted in fury.
His men instantly began to beat the ground with their fists and feet, their frustration manifesting in violence.
The first blow landed hard on the foster father’s back, knocking him to the ground with a grunt.
The second hit came swiftly, landing across the foster mother’s face. She cried out in pain as the men pummeled them, their fists landing like hammers.
“Why are you doing this?!” the foster mother cried, her eyes wide with fear.
But the men of the vice president’s entourage weren’t listening. They were enraged beyond reasoning.
They had been made fools of.
The vice president’s time and effort had been wasted, and now they had nothing to show for it except for the gratitude letter left by Xi Ping.
“You think we’ll just let this go?” one of the men spat, his voice like ice. “You think you can get away with lying to the vice president like this?”
“You have no idea who you’re dealing with!” the foster father tried to shout back, his voice cracking under the weight of fear and pain. But as he began to speak, the tall man waved the letter in front of his face.
The foster parents’ eyes went wide with horror as the tall man shoved the letter into their faces.
“You’re really going to try to tell us this isn’t true?” The man’s voice was like a low growl, filled with contempt.
“Read your daughter’s damn letter, and then tell me why you think you can get away with this.”
The foster parents trembled, their eyes shifting back and forth from the letter to the angry faces around them.
Seeing the content of the letter, the foster parent’s face turned pale.
They hurriedly crawled and hugged the man’s legs exclaiming loudly,
“It’s not true! We never sold her to anyone else!”
The tall man stared down at Xi Ping’s foster parents, his eyes cold and merciless.
As they groveled at his feet, tears streaming down their faces, he sneered and raised his boot, shoving the foster father backward.
“If you’re telling the truth,” the tall man growled, his voice low and threatening, “then how do you explain those bags of noodles and rice under the floor?”
The foster mother, cradling her bruised face, stammered through her sobs.
“I-it was her! Xi Ping! She bought it!”
“Really?” The man’s lip curled in disdain as he loomed over her.
“If she had so much food stashed away, why would you even bother selling her in the first place? You think we’re idiots?”
The words hit their mark, and the foster parents froze.
Their panicked minds searched for an answer, but there was none to be found.
The men of the vice president exchanged dark looks, their patience wearing thinner by the second.
“You know what I think?” the tall man said, pacing slowly around the room.
“I think you two are lying. I think you’ve been stalling for time while your precious foster daughter ran off. And now we’re stuck here cleaning up your mess.”

Without warning, his fist lashed out, striking the foster father in the jaw.
The older man cried out as he crumpled to the ground, clutching his face.
The foster mother screamed, trying to shield her husband, but the other men grabbed her roughly and threw her aside.
The sound of their fists landing on flesh echoed through the room as they continued their merciless assault.
“You like to play games?” the tall man hissed, his boot pressing against the foster father’s chest.
“Well, let me tell you something. The vice president doesn’t like being made a fool of. You think this is bad?
This is just the beginning. We’ll make your lives so miserable you’ll wish you’d never been born.”
The foster mother sobbed uncontrollably, her face pale and bloodied.
“Please! Please stop! We—we didn’t mean for this to happen!”
But the men showed no mercy. Their rage was palpable, their blows relentless.
The foster parents were left battered and broken, their cries for mercy ignored.
…………….
Xi Ping ran as fast as her legs could carry her, the adrenaline from her escape fueling her movements.
Her breath came in ragged gasps, her heart pounding in her chest. She didn’t stop, even as the rough terrain scraped at her hands and knees.
The old maintenance tunnel had led her to an overgrown path just outside the base’s perimeter.
Freedom was so close, yet the dangers beyond were unknown.
She pushed forward, determined not to let the vice president’s men or her foster parents catch her.
But as the hours passed, her energy began to wane.
Her legs felt like lead, her vision blurred.
The effects of the serum Wei Long had injected her with were still coursing through her veins, sapping her strength.
Finally, her body gave out. She stumbled and fell to the ground, her consciousness slipping away.
Two days later, Xi Ping woke to the harsh light of the sun filtering through the dense canopy of trees.
Her body ached all over, and her throat was parched. She sat up slowly, clutching her head as she tried to piece together what had happened.
The memory of her escape came rushing back, and with it, a renewed sense of urgency. She couldn’t stay here. She had to keep moving.
Once she had regained a semblance of strength, she made her way to a hidden path she had discovered long ago.
Inside, she had stashed a modest supply of food and basic supplies, knowing one day she might need to flee.
She ate sparingly, rationing the dried meat and stale bread she had hidden.
Days turned into nights as she survived in the wilderness.
The heat during the day was unbearable, blistering her skin and forcing her to rest in the shade.
She ventured out only at night, scavenging for food and water, her movements slow and deliberate.
Her survival instincts kicked in, and she began hunting small, mutated animals that roamed the area.
