Chapter 235: Chapter 235: Regret
She wrapped her arms around his shoulders, burying her face against his chest in a perfect show of vulnerability.
Pei Meng’s face turned crimson, and for a split second, he froze, unsure of how to respond.
He wasn’t used to this kind of attention, and the situation was clearly far from normal.
But as the tension in the air thickened, his protective instincts kicked in. He placed a hand gently on her back, trying to comfort her while also trying to gather his wits.
“It’s okay, I’ll take care of it,” he murmured, his voice trembling slightly with the unfamiliar intimacy.
His other hand rested awkwardly on her shoulder as he looked toward the blue cat, his eyes narrowing with determination.
“I’ll handle this… mutant animal.”
Inside, however, Pei Meng couldn’t deny the thrill of the situation.
The warmth of Su Yun’s body pressed so close to him was unexpected, and he couldn’t help but feel a rush of protective desire as he comforted her.
There was something about the way she clung to him that made him feel.
The blue cat aka Su Jiyai watched the entire farace with a twitching face. She was wondering what her ‘smart’ sister could come up with.
That’s all?
Well, it is very typical of her.
As Pei Meng? Su Jiyai wasn’t afraid, at best she would walk away, and at worst she would push him into one of the portals. Easy Peasy.
However, before she can react, a figure walks past her.
Su Yun felt the sudden, sharp impact before she even registered what had happened.
A powerful kick landed squarely on her backside, sending her sprawling forward.
The momentum was so forceful that she crashed into Pei Meng, knocking them both off balance.
Pei Meng’s eyes widened in shock as he stumbled backward, arms flailing in a futile attempt to steady himself.
They both hit the ground with a loud thud, a tangle of limbs and dust.
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
All eyes turned to the cloaked figure who had delivered the kick—a tall, imposing presence exuding an aura of quiet authority.
The hood of the cloak concealed their face, but the strong aura was enough to make everyone back off.
Without saying a word, the figure stepped closer, their gaze fixed on Su Yun.
Su Yun scrambled to her knees, clutching her bruised hip.
Her face twisted in a mix of shock and indignation.
“Who—who do you think you are?” she sputtered, her voice laced with a trembling outrage.
This wasn’t part of her plan.
She hadn’t anticipated someone intervening, let alone humiliating her like this.

The cloaked figure didn’t respond immediately.
Instead, they turned their attention to the blue cat—Su Jiyai—who watched the scene with an almost amused expression.
The cat’s tail flicked lazily, as if unimpressed by the entire spectacle.
The figure then shifted their gaze back to Su Yun, their voice calm but cutting.
“Your act was pathetic,” they said, their tone carrying a hint of disdain. “Framing a defenseless creature? How predictable.”
Su Yun’s eyes widened with practiced innocence, tears welling up as she clutched her bruised hip.
“Why… why are you siding with a mutant animal?” she whimpered, her voice trembling as she gazed up at the cloaked figure.
Jake, the figure in question, rolled his eyes beneath his hood. His tone was sharp, his patience clearly thin.
“That ‘mutant animal’ is my beloved cat,” he said coolly. “And you framed her. Did you really think no one would see through such a pathetic act?”
The crowd gasped, exchanging murmurs.
“She tried to frame his pet?”
“So typical of her. Always scheming.”
“She’s beautiful but… dangerous.”
Su Yun’s face flushed, but she quickly recovered.
“You’re just protecting your cat and putting the blame on me!” she shot back, her voice rising.
“I was attacked—I only wanted help!” Her eyes darted toward Pei Meng, pleading silently for his support.
Pei Meng’s eyes narrowed, his earlier confusion now replaced by anger. He stepped forward, his fists clenched.
“You think you can accuse her and get away with it?” he growled, lunging at Jake.
Jake didn’t even flinch.
With a swift, fluid motion, he grabbed Pei Meng’s wrist, twisted it effortlessly, and sent him crashing to the ground.
Dust rose around them as Pei Meng groaned, stunned and embarrassed.
The crowd gasped again, whispers spreading like wildfire.
“Did you see that?”
“He’s… strong. Too strong.”
“Pei Meng didn’t stand a chance!”
Su Yun’s eyes flickered with shock, but she quickly changed tactics.
Her expression softened, tears pooling again.
She rushed to Pei Meng’s side, dramatically kneeling in front of Jake with her arms protectively outstretched.
Her low-cut top strategically shifted, revealing more of her cleavage.
She bowed her head, her voice dripping with desperation.
“Please… don’t hurt him anymore. I’ll take responsibility,” she whispered, her eyes flicking up, trying to gauge Jake’s reaction.
“He was just trying to protect me.”
Some women in the crowd scoffed, their voices sharp and cutting.
“Typical Su Yun, using her looks again.”
“She thinks she can seduce anyone. Disgusting.”
“Don’t fall for it!” someone shouted.
Su Yun ignored them, maintaining her pose, her eyes flicking between Jake and Pei Meng.
She was playing both sides, hoping one of them would step up for her.
Pei Meng, still on the ground, looked up at her with a mix of gratitude and anger.
“You… don’t need to kneel for me,” he muttered, his pride wounded. “I’m not weak.”
Jake didn’t spare her a second glance.
He turned his back on them, walking purposefully toward the base entrance.
Su Jiyai, the blue cat, followed with an almost regal stride. When they reached the entrance, Jake placed Su Jiyai’s paw on the scanner.
The door slid open with a soft hiss.
The crowd watched in stunned silence as they entered the base effortlessly.
“Wait… if it was a mutant, how did they get in?”
“Boss Su must trust them.”
“Su Yun was lying all along. I knew it!”
“Damn, if only we had defended the cat… maybe our applications…”
