Chapter 248: Chapter 248: Growing Plants
After Huo Ning’s words, Su Jiyai didn’t waste any time and asked her to meet in the greenhouse.
Huo Ning walked towards a part of the base that was off-limits to most—a restricted area known as the Forbidden Zone.
As they approached the entrance, Huo Ning hesitated for a moment, hearing a faint, unsettling buzzing sound.
As if there were bees nearby, but she remembered Su Jiyai’s instruction,
“Don’t go anywhere else than the greenhouse.”
So Huo Ning suppressed her curiosity and walked toward the greenhouse.
She passed through the heavy steel doors into a large greenhouse.
The sight before them was unexpected—it was barren.
No signs of life, no green, just dry, cracked soil that looked as if it hadn’t seen water or sunlight in years.
The reality was the system had watered the area just 2 hours ago but for some reason the soil remained cracked and dry.
Huo Ning frowned.
A sense of yearning swelled up inside her, something she couldn’t quite explain.
Her power pulsed inside her, eager to be used. But she didn’t dare start without Su Jiyai’s instruction.
Minutes passed, and instead of Su Jiyai, a blue cat padded into the greenhouse. Huo Ning blinked in surprise.
The cat looked almost regal, with soft, silky fur and bright, intelligent eyes.
She wasn’t sure whether to shoo it away or just wait, but before she could act, a mechanical voice filled the greenhouse.
“The blue cat is your assistant. You may begin now, Huo Ning.”
Huo Ning tilted her head in confusion, staring at the cat, and then at the speaker. “My assistant…?” she muttered under her breath.
The cat looked up at her with what seemed like an amused glint in its eyes.
Huo Ning hesitated, then nodded at the cat as if it were a real assistant, accepting its strange presence.
She knelt down, placing her hands on the soil.
Su Jiya smiled inwardly. Her system had at least managed to translate her meows without her moving her mouth, into commands—one thing it was decent at.
Huo Ning didn’t know what she was doing exactly, but she felt a pull deep within her, a primal energy calling out to the earth beneath her hands.
She took a deep breath, feeling the warmth spread through her body, and she surrendered to the power.
The next moment, her body began to glow with a soft, radiant green light.
The light pulsed and spread, reaching the soil, and within seconds, the earth beneath her hands began to glow as well.
Unbeknownst to Huo Ning, the seeds buried within the soil had begun to respond to her power.
Slowly, almost imperceptibly at first, small sprouts began to push their way up through the dry soil.
Su Jiyai’s cat eyes widened in excitement as she watched the transformation.

It was happening.
The plants were growing.
Minutes passed, and the once-barren greenhouse was now beginning to show signs of life.
Small green shoots had started to cover the soil, inching upwards, gaining strength with every passing second.
Su Jiyai’s heart raced with excitement. She hadn’t felt this giddy in a long time.
Her tail twitched with joy, and she almost felt like jumping around—or even kissing Huo Ning for making this miracle happen.
But then, something went wrong.
At the eleventh minute, just as the plants were starting to reach the first stage of sprouting,
Huo Ning’s body suddenly slumped forward. Her eyes rolled back, and she collapsed into the dirt.
Su Jiyai’s joy was immediately replaced by alarm.
She rushed forward, still in her cat form, and pushed Huo Ning’s hand away from the soil with surprising strength for her small frame.
The moment Huo Ning’s hand left the soil, she gasped, taking in great gulps of air as if she had been suffocating.
Her body trembled as she lay on the ground, her face pale and drenched in sweat.
Su Jiyai watched over her, her mind racing with concern.
The system chimed in.
[Host, her energy was completely drained. If you hadn’t intervened, she might not have survived.]
Su Jiyai’s heart pounded in her chest, but she remained calm outwardly.
She glanced down at the plants, which had now paused in their growth, but the sprouts remained vibrant.
She had expected Huo Ning’s power to be incredible, but this… this was far more dangerous than she had anticipated.
Huo Ning slowly sat up, her entire body trembling from the ordeal.
She couldn’t believe how drained she felt—like all the life had been sucked out of her.
She looked at the blue cat, still sitting calmly beside her, and felt a strange connection.
Something about the cat seemed almost… protective.
Before she could speak again, the mechanical voice from the speaker filled the greenhouse once more.
“That’s enough for today, Huo Ning. Don’t overexert yourself,” came Su Jiyai’s calm but firm instruction.
Huo Ning’s eyes were wide with awe.
Despite her exhaustion, the sight of those sprouting plants filled her with a strange sense of accomplishment.
She had made life appear in this desolate place.
But her body felt the cost of such power—she hadn’t anticipated it would take so much from her.
“I’m sorry… I didn’t know it would be so…” Huo Ning started to apologize, her voice weak.
“It’s fine. You’ve done well,” Su Jiyai reassured her through the speaker.
“But this is only the beginning. You’ll need to pace yourself if you want to develop your abilities without hurting yourself.
Starting tomorrow, you’ll visit the greenhouse every day to continue working on the soil. But there are conditions.”
Huo Ning nodded, still too dazed to argue. The cat’s calm gaze seemed to soothe her nerves.
“You need to double your food intake,” Su Jiyai’s voice continued.
“What you just experienced was your energy being drained too quickly. You’ll need the proper nutrition to recover and handle this power safely.”
Huo Ning nodded again, absorbing the advice. “I understand, Boss Su,” she said, her voice barely a whisper.
But her heart was filled with warmth.
