Xi Ping’s face darkened.

Recalling the things she had suffered in Crystal Cove base, her eyes burned with anger.

Su Jiyai sensing her anger, raised an eyebrow. Earlier she didn’t think much of Xi Ping’s escape.

“Can you tell me why you escaped the Crystal Cove base in the first place?”

Xi Ping felt gratitude towards Su Jiyai and didn’t want to hide anything from her hence she told everything.

From the agreement she had with her foster parents to repaying them with the food she had got as a reward, she also told about her foster parent’s deal with the vice-captain of the base and dealings of Crystal Cove base.

Su Jiyai raised an eyebrow.

“Why didn’t you leave them before?”

Xi Ping lowered her eyes. Darkness flashed in her eyes. Was she an innocent person? Nope.

She dreamt of taking revenge on her foster parents and brother. She wanted to kill them. After repaying them, she wanted to take revenge.

The time spent on Crystal Cove wasn’t good, but she wanted to repay whatever debt she owed. And once she did, she would kill them.

Xi Ping remained silent, however, Su Jiyai understood her silence and a huge grin appeared on her face.

“It is an advantage I hold. Just think about it. Her foster parents mistreated her, but she still stayed with them, just because she wanted to repay whatever she owed to them.

This tells a lot about Xi Ping’s character. As long as I am kind to her she will repay it 10,000 folds.”

The system was still not satisfied.

“Yes, I… I wanted to repay the debt, to clear everything. It wasn’t about loyalty to them. It was about closing that chapter, so I could finally be free.” Her voice was hard, tinged with resentment.

“Interesting…” Su Jiyai murmured, folding her arms across her chest and leaning back in her chair.

“You’ve done that now, haven’t you? Cleared your debt?”

Xi Ping nodded, her expression darkening.

“I have. But there’s more to it. I didn’t just leave them to repay a debt… I left because I knew if I stayed any longer, I’d never survive.

The vice-captain—he doesn’t take betrayal lightly. He’ll come for me… and now, he’ll come for your base too.”

Su Jiyai waved her hand dismissively.

“Let him come. I’ve dealt with far worse.” Her voice was confident, but her mind was already moving rapidly, calculating potential risks and outcomes.

Crystal Cove might be a threat, but a manageable one, especially with someone like Xi Ping by her side.

Xi Ping, however, wasn’t so easily comforted.

“I’m serious. Crystal Cove isn’t just another scavenger base. They have resources, connections, and fighters that could give even someone like you trouble.

I didn’t tell you this to scare you—I told you because I don’t want my past to become your problem.”

“Too late for that,” Su Jiyai said with a small smirk.

“You’re my asset now, Xi Ping. Your problems are my problems. And trust me, I don’t take kindly to people threatening what’s mine.” Her voice dropped an octave, and the dangerous edge to it sent a shiver down Xi Ping’s spine.

For the first time, Xi Ping saw something beyond the generous support and mentorship Su Jiyai had shown her.

There was a darkness lurking beneath her leader’s surface—a ruthless pragmatism that might just be the key to surviving in this world.

“Then please let me participate in this plan too.” Xi Ping said with a firm expression. “I know you will deal with them, so I want you to involve me in it too.”

“Tell me about this vice-captain,” Su Jiyai prompted, her tone more serious now.

After getting to know everything Su Jiyai signed a contract with Xi Ping and let her go.

Lin Hao walked back to his room but he was a little anxious. After waiting for nearly half an hour, his patience hit a limit.

He walked up to the bed and slowly closed his eyes. His soul left his body and slowly wandered to the place where Su Jiyai was staying.
