Chapter 255: Chapter 255: Intel
Vice Captain turned to the subordinate who had dared to open his mouth and relaxed a bit when he saw the subordinate speaking was his own eldest nephew.
He can’t trust other children around, but he can still trust his eldest nephew the most.
After all, the eldest nephew was a filial and clever person.
“Say it.” The vice-captain motioned.
The Eldest nephew of Vice Captain, who was a middle-aged man in his late 20s answered,
“Vice-captain, I have got to know that Boss Su is a very rich woman. She has endless supplies of food and even the living conditions in her base are far much better than ours.”
Vice-captain scoffed,
“Hu Leng, I thought since you opened your mouth you would say something smart, but looks like I have overestimated you.
Endless supplies in the apocalypse? Better living conditions than our base? Are you even listening to yourself?”
Hu Leng, the eldest nephew of the vice-captain, clenched his fists momentarily, biting back a retort.
His uncle’s sharp words stung, but he remained calm.
He knew better than to argue when the vice-captain was in one of his foul moods.
Still, Hu Leng wasn’t a fool.
The rumors he’d heard about Boss Su were unlike anything they had seen in the apocalypse, and he knew it would be a mistake to dismiss them outright.
“Uncle,” Hu Leng began again, his voice steady,
“I understand it sounds unbelievable, but the reports from multiple sources all say the same thing.
Boss Su’s base has access to resources that no other base can match. If she truly has what they say, it could be dangerous to underestimate her.”
The vice-captain stopped pacing, narrowing his eyes at his nephew.
“And you believe this nonsense, Hu Leng? You think one woman can amass endless supplies while the rest of us struggle to find enough to survive?”
Hu Leng met his uncle’s hard gaze, careful not to appear too bold but determined to be heard.
“I think it’s worth considering, sir. Even if half of what we’ve heard is true, we should be cautious.
If Boss Su is as powerful as the rumors suggest, we need to approach this situation carefully.”
The vice-captain’s scowl deepened, but he didn’t dismiss Hu Leng immediately this time.
There was a part of him that recognized his nephew’s caution might be warranted.
He had ruled Crystal Cove with an iron fist for years, but the apocalypse had taught him that surprises could come from the most unexpected places.
Underestimating a potential threat was dangerous.
“Say that she does have these resources,” the vice-captain said, crossing his arms, “what’s your plan? How do you suggest we proceed?”
Hu Leng’s eyes brightened slightly, sensing his uncle was open to hearing his thoughts.
“Instead of provoking a direct conflict right away, we could negotiate. If Boss Su really has these resources, maybe there’s a way we can exploit the situation without risking war.

We could demand compensation for Xi Ping—use her as a bargaining chip.”
The vice-captain raised an eyebrow.
“You want to negotiate with the woman harboring that traitor?”
“Not negotiate—more like leverage,” Hu Leng clarified.
“If we make her believe we’re willing to make a deal, she might lower her guard. Once we have an idea of her resources, we can decide whether to strike or take advantage of the situation differently.”
The vice-captain stroked his chin, thinking.
Hu Leng’s plan made more sense than charging in recklessly, especially if there was a chance Boss Su’s base was as strong as the reports suggested.
A direct assault could weaken Crystal Cove, and that was not a risk he was willing to take, especially for something as personal as his desire for revenge on Xi Ping.
“Very well, Hu Leng,” the vice-captain said, his voice measured.
“You make a point. We’ll send a second message to Boss Su. This time, we’ll offer to ‘negotiate’ for Xi Ping’s return. But if she doesn’t agree we will attack.”
Hu Leng nodded, suppressing a sigh of relief. At least, for now, his uncle was willing to consider a more measured approach.
The vice-captain’s expression darkened once again.
“But remember this, Hu Leng: Xi Ping will pay for her betrayal. No matter what, I want her back in Crystal Cove. Whether we strike a deal or take her by force, she’ll regret ever thinking she could escape me.”
Hu Leng bowed slightly. “Understood, Uncle. I’ll draft the message immediately.”
As Hu Leng left the room to carry out his orders, the vice-captain sat back in his chair, fingers drumming on the armrest.
Now, with Hu Leng’s plan in motion, he would get the chance to see just how much power this mysterious Boss Su really had.
And if she proved to be a threat? The vice-captain cracked his knuckles, a slow, menacing grin forming on his lips. Crystal Cove had destroyed stronger foes before. They could do it again.
………..
As Hu Leng finished drafting the second message to Boss Su, his fingers hesitated momentarily over the console.
He wasn’t completely sure that this plan would work—there were too many unknowns about Boss Su and her base.
But it was the safest option for now. They couldn’t afford to walk into a trap.
To Boss Su,
We have reconsidered our stance regarding Xi Ping.
We propose a peaceful exchange of terms.
Meet with us to negotiate the return of Xi Ping to Crystal Cove, and we will offer fair compensation in return.
If you want Xi ping in your base, please bring the appropriate amount of resources, and if you don’t want to spend resources on Xi Ping, please return her to us.
Failure to comply, however, will result in immediate action from Crystal Cove forces.
After sending the message, Hu Leng sat back.
He hoped Boss Su would take the bait and agree to meet.
That would give them time to gather more intel and determine the true strength of her base.
But if she didn’t…
Hu Leng shook his head. He didn’t want to think about what would happen if Boss Su decided to defy his uncle.
