Chapter 271: Chapter 271: Expansion Map
With a deep breath, she picked up the blue envelope and carefully opened it.
The letter inside was handwritten, and the first thing she noticed was the neat but shaky handwriting. It was from Yuan Xin.
She set the letter down and picked up the next one. This one was from one of the tenants, the single mother Yuan Xin had mentioned earlier. The handwriting was a bit messier, but the words were no less heartfelt.
Su Jiyai felt her chest tighten. She was so focused on completing the missions that she never thought of the impact it was having on others.
Letter after letter, she read about people who had come to Hope Base at their lowest points.
They wrote about losing their homes, their families, their sense of security—and how Hope Base had given them a second chance.
Some letters were short and to the point, simply thanking her for the affordable housing and food.
Others were longer, detailing the struggles they had faced before finding refuge at the base.
As she finished reading the letters, Su Jiyai felt an unfamiliar warmth spread through her.
For the first time in a long time, Su Jiyai allowed herself to feel something beyond the daily grind of running the base.
She allowed herself to feel connected to the people she had helped.
Just then Huo Ning entered the conference room. In her hand was a black polythene bag and her face was flushed with excitement.
“Good afternoon Boss Su.” She shouted.
Su Jiyai came back to her senses and greeted her,
“Good afternoon.”
Huo Ning placed the black polythene on the table, “I heard today is gratitude day…I have something I want to give you.”
Su Jiyai was surprised and answered, “No…”
However, before she could finish her words, Huo Ning made a serious face,
“Boss Su you have done a lot for me. My powers are still weak, but one day I will improve myself to the point you will be proud of me.”
Su Jiyai chuckled when she heard Huo Ning’s bold claims.
For a moment she wanted to pat Huo Ning’s back and tell her not to overthink, but in the end, she kept quiet.
After teleporting the black polythene to her desk, Su Jiyai opened it and was surprised to find fresh vegetables.
Peppers, tomato, sweet potato, garlic, ginger, corn and beans.
Su Jiyai stared at the fresh vegetables in front of her, her heart filled with a strange mixture of surprise and warmth.
She had never seen vegetables before. In her world, the apocalypse had persisted for twenty years, making fresh produce a forgotten luxury.
Yet here they were—plump peppers, ripe tomatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, and beans—each one larger than she imagined they should be.
She gently touched one of the tomatoes, feeling its smooth skin under her fingers.
The vegetables could easily last a week if made into dishes, but she already had a different plan in mind.
Her thoughts wandered to Qin Feng, who had spent almost half of his savings just to give her a good meal.

Su Jiyai smiled softly. Maybe I can share these with him later, she thought. It felt right to share something so precious with him.
For now, though, she decided she wanted to do something for Huo Ning.
After all, Huo Ning had been thoughtful enough to gift her these rare vegetables.
A sense of gratitude swelled in Su Jiyai’s chest.
I’ll make her a meal, Su Jiyai decided, thinking about the dishes she could prepare.
She wasn’t the best cook, but she’d do her best.
Just as she was about to start planning the meal, a sudden ding rang in her ears.
Her system had activated, pulling her attention away from the vegetables.
[Congratulations host, you have completed a hidden mission: Grow vegetables.]
Su Jiyai blinked in confusion.
[As a reward for completing this hidden mission, you have been granted a Mystery Box. Would you like to open it now?]
A shimmering box appeared in front of her, glowing faintly. Su Jiyai hesitated for a moment.
Hidden mission? She hadn’t even known she was on one.
Still, the system rarely handed out rewards like this, so she figured she might as well see what it was.
“Open the box,” she said softly.
The box glowed brighter, and with a soft click, it opened.
A map appeared in front of Su Jiyai.
[Congratulations host, you have got an expansion map!] The system voice sounded a bit excited.
“Eh? What do you mean?” Su Jiyai asked. Expansion Map? Can it show all the countries in the world?
[Host, an expansion map is one of the rarest commodities a host can ever win in all the rental building systems…] The system suddenly stopped realizing it had spoken too much.
Su Jiyai ignored and asked about the functionalities of the expansion map.
[Host, with an expansion map, as long as any base or place is unoccupied and you own the land, then you can build your base there, even if it is 1000s of kilometers away.]
Su Jiyai was stunned.
The biggest problem with the system was, even though she wants to expand her base, she can only target her surrounding areas.
She had always wanted to expand Hope Base, but it had been impossible due to how far other locations were.
Now, with this map, she could build anywhere, even thousands of kilometers away!
“This…this could change everything,” she whispered to herself.
“Wait a minute,” Su Jiyai said, narrowing her eyes.
“You said you are a multiplier system when we first met. Now you’re talking about some rental building system. What’s going on?”
The system was silent.
Su Jiyai’s eyebrow rose in suspicion. “Are you ignoring me? Did I… get a defective system or something?”
For a second, nothing happened. Then, suddenly, the system’s voice came back, shouting in her ear.
[Host! I am not defective! You must not say such things! I work perfectly fine!]
Su Jiyai chuckled softly at the system’s overly defensive tone.
“Oh really? You sound awfully defensive for something that’s working ‘perfectly fine.'”
