Chapter 277: Chapter 277: Wang Bao

Once Ge Chunli agreed, he asked Su Jiyai to wait for the next week, since he would need to convince others in the base too.

Su Jiyai agreed. However learning from her past mistake she didn’t forget to remind him, “If you don’t reply to me within the next week, I will never propose such a partnership again.”

Ge Chunli’s body tensed for a moment, before he nodded, “Sure.”

After Ge Chunli’s departure, Su Jiyai got busy with the base’s matter.

As she was overlooking the tenant’s information, she saw a name she couldn’t be more familiar with. Wang Bao.

Li Yuan’s best friend. Thinking about Li Yuan, Su Jiyai’s eyes narrowed. If chance given she wanted to kill Li Yuan.

Though she gained a lot from the accident caused by Li Yuan, she lost a lot too.

One year of her life, Qin Feng got burnt, and her not able to get together with Qin Feng.

However, she knew that Li Yuan wasn’t the mastermind. Heck no.

Suddenly she thought of Han Weilin. Curious as to where her best friend was, she called Wang Bao to the conference room.

Wang Bao stood nervously in the conference room, bowing slightly toward the speaker, her voice humble as she spoke.

“Boss Su, I… I’m not sure what you want with me, but I’m here to help however I can.”

She couldn’t see who was speaking to her, but she could feel a powerful presence on the other side of the wall.

It made her feel small, almost insignificant. She could hear her own heartbeat in her ears as she waited for the reply.

Su Jiyai, watching Wang Bao, leaned forward slightly before speaking.

“Are you from Willow Base?” her voice was calm, but the question felt heavy.

Wang Bao’s hands fidgeted nervously as she nodded, her face paling a bit. “Yes, Boss. I was originally from Willow Base.”

“I see you served in the military for two years. Did you know anyone from your time there?”

Wang Bao’s face turned even paler at the mention of her military service. She was obviously uncomfortable, but she forced herself to nod again.

“Y-Yes, I knew a few people.”

Su Jiyai’s eyes narrowed slightly, her tone becoming more inquisitive.

“Did you have dormmates back then? Do you know how they’re doing now?”

Wang Bao hesitated, her lips trembling slightly before she shook her head.

“No… I lost contact with most of them after I left. I don’t know where they are or how they’re doing.”

Su Jiyai hummed thoughtfully, then leaned back in her chair.

“What about someone named Han Weilin? Do you know her?”

Wang Bao’s eyes widened in shock.

“You… you know Han Weilin?” she stammered, clearly taken aback that Boss Su had mentioned her name.

Su Jiyai smirked slightly, but her voice remained calm.

“No, I don’t know her personally. One of my employees is trying to locate a few people, and Han Weilin was on that list. That’s all.”

Wang Bao’s tension seemed to ease a little, her shoulders relaxing slightly as she nodded.

“Oh… I see. Han Weilin is fine. She’s at Cedar Base now, doing well. At least, that’s what I’ve heard.”

Hearing this, Su Jiyai felt relieved.

She had been concerned for a moment, but now that she knew Han Weilin was okay, her mind could focus on other matters.

But then she narrowed her eyes again and asked in a casual tone, “Do you know anyone named Li Yuan?”

The atmosphere in the room shifted instantly.

Wang Bao’s face twisted with anger and hatred. Her teeth gnashed together, and her fists clenched tightly. She nodded slowly, her expression full of bitterness.

“Interesting,” Su Jiyai mused, noticing the change in Wang Bao’s demeanor.

“You seem very… aggrieved by the mention of that name. Is there something you’d like to share?”

Wang Bao hesitated, clearly battling with her emotions.

Her eyes darted around the room as if she was trying to decide whether or not, to tell the truth.

After a long moment, she sighed and began speaking, her voice shaky but filled with frustration.

“I… I didn’t want to talk about this, but… I think it’s time I told someone the truth.” Wang Bao’s mind flashed back to a memory that still haunted her.

It had been a dark day, literally and figuratively.

Wang Bao and Li Yuan had been running for their lives, chased by a massive horde of zombies.

The sounds of their groans and the sickening squelch of their footsteps echoed through the streets.

Wang Bao’s heart raced as she struggled to keep up with Li Yuan, her best friend for as long as she could remember.

“We need to keep going!” Li Yuan had shouted, panic evident in her voice. “They’re getting closer!”

The two of them had been running for what felt like hours, their legs burning and their lungs on fire.

Just when it seemed like they might have a chance to escape, Wang Bao heard a terrifying sound—a growl, louder and closer than before.

She glanced over her shoulder and saw the zombies closing in fast.

“Li Yuan!” Wang Bao screamed, trying to push herself to run faster.

But just as she turned to warn her friend, she felt something unexpected. Li Yuan, her best friend, shoved her—hard—toward the approaching horde.

Wang Bao stumbled and fell, her body hitting the ground with a painful thud. The zombies were almost upon her.

She could barely believe what had just happened. Her mind raced as she realized that Li Yuan had pushed her, sacrificing her to the zombies.

Wang Bao’s heart pounded in her chest. She was going to die.

But just when all hope seemed lost, a group of soldiers arrived out of nowhere, guns blazing. They took out the zombies with precision, saving both Wang Bao and Li Yuan in the process.

Later, when the adrenaline had faded and they were safe again, Wang Bao confronted Li Yuan. She couldn’t hold it in any longer.
