Chapter 278: Chapter 278: Betrayal
“Why?” she had asked, her voice trembling with hurt and disbelief. “Why did you push me toward them? I thought we were best friends!”
Li Yuan had looked down, guilt written all over her face.
“I’m sorry… I was under too much pressure. I didn’t mean it. My mind wasn’t clear.”
Wang Bao had wanted to scream at her, to tell her how betrayed she felt.
But in the end, she had decided to let it slide. Li Yuan was her best friend, after all. Maybe it really had been an accident. Maybe the fear had gotten to her.
But things had only gotten worse from there.
A few weeks later, an opportunity arose—someone from Cedar Base had come to offer help.
They could only take one person from the group, and it was supposed to be someone who had the best chance of surviving and thriving at the base.
Wang Bao had thought that she and Li Yuan would stick together and that they would work out a plan to make sure both of them stayed safe.
But when it came time to choose, Li Yuan stood up without hesitation.
She didn’t just volunteer herself—she had gone on to list every one of Wang Bao’s flaws, talking about how Wang Bao wasn’t as strong or smart, how she wasn’t suited for life at Cedar Base.
Wang Bao had stood there in disbelief, her heart breaking as she listened to Li Yuan betray her again.
And, of course, the Cedar Base representative had chosen Li Yuan to go with them.
Later, Wang Bao had confronted her, her voice filled with pain.
“How could you do that to me? After everything I’ve done for you? Are you even my best friend anymore?”
Li Yuan’s reaction was something that Wang Bao had never expected.
After everything that had happened, after Wang Bao’s desperate plea, Li Yuan had the nerve to smile.
But it wasn’t a friendly smile or even an apologetic one. No, it was a cold, disdainful smirk.
“You really are an idiot, Wang Bao,” Li Yuan said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Did you seriously think I cared about you? That I ever considered you my best friend? Pathetic.”
Wang Bao felt like she’d been punched in the gut.
Her legs felt weak, her heart shattered into a thousand pieces as she stared at the person she had once called her best friend.
Tears welled up in her eyes, but she refused to let them fall.
Li Yuan crossed her arms and gave a mocking laugh, stepping closer to Wang Bao.
“You were always so naive, always so easy to manipulate. I only stuck with you because it was convenient for me.
But when it came down to survival, of course, I was going to save myself. Who needs dead weight dragging them down?”
Wang Bao was speechless.
She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
All this time, she trusted Li Yuan, stood by her, and helped her through everything.

And now, Li Yuan was acting like none of that had mattered.
Li Yuan leaned in closer, her eyes glinting with malice.
“You’re just not worth it, Wang Bao. You never were. All that loyalty, all that friendship? It meant nothing to me. You’re weak. You’re useless.”
Wang Bao’s body shook with rage.
She could feel her blood boiling, her hands clenching into tight fists.
The betrayal was too much, too painful. She had given so much to Li Yuan, only to be treated like trash in return.
Li Yuan’s smirk grew wider as she watched Wang Bao’s expression change from disbelief to fury.
“Face it,” she continued, her voice cruel and heartless. “You’re nothing without me. And I’ll be just fine without you.”
With that, Li Yuan turned and walked away, leaving Wang Bao standing there, stunned and broken.
…………
As Wang Bao recounted this moment to Su Jiyai, her hands trembled, and her voice wavered.
She could still hear Li Yuan’s cruel words echoing in her mind, still see that mocking smile.
The pain and anger she had buried for so long came rushing back all at once.
“I hate her,” Wang Bao whispered, her voice filled with emotion.
“I hate her so much. After everything I did for her, she threw me away like I was nothing. I thought she was my friend… I thought I meant something to her.”
Her eyes filled with tears as she spoke, but she didn’t stop.
She needed to get this off her chest, needed to let someone—anyone—know how much she had suffered.
“She betrayed me twice,” Wang Bao continued, her voice shaking.
“First, when she pushed me toward those zombies, and again when she threw me under the bus just so she could get ahead.
I thought… I thought maybe it was a mistake the first time. But no. She never cared about me. I was just useful to her until I wasn’t.”
Wang Bao’s knees buckled, and before she knew it, she was kneeling on the floor of the conference room, tears streaming down her face.
She clenched her fists tightly, her head bowed as she cried out in desperation.
“Please… please, Boss Su,” Wang Bao begged, her voice cracking.
“I can’t do it myself, but… you’re strong. You have power. Please, take revenge for me. Make her pay for what she did.”
She knelt there, her head hanging low, completely vulnerable and exposed.
For so long, she had kept this pain hidden inside, pretending it didn’t bother her, pretending she could move on.
But now, she couldn’t hold it in any longer.
“I know it’s not my place to ask this of you,” Wang Bao sobbed, her voice barely a whisper.
“But I can’t live with this hatred anymore. I want her to suffer like I did. I want her to know what it feels like to be betrayed, to be thrown away.”
“Wang Bao,” Su Jiyai said softly, her voice calm but filled with a sense of authority.
“You’ve been wronged. I can see that. And I understand your pain.”
Wang Bao lifted her head slightly, hope flickering in her tear-filled eyes.
