Chapter 279: Chapter 279: Glimpse
“But your problem isn’t my concern.” Su Jiyai said calmly, “You have nothing to offer.”
Wang Bao was pitiful? Sure. But was she innocent? Nope.
As the victim who had suffered Wang Bao’s maliciousness firsthand, Su Jiyai had no sympathy for her.
Wang Bao may have trusted Li Yuan a lot, but it was impossible for Wang Bao to never have a glimpse of the cruel side of Li Yuan.
This can only mean one thing: Wang Bao knew but turned a blind eye or Wang Bao had the confidence that Li Yuan will never hurt her.
Wang Bao’s heart sank at Su Jiyai’s words, her hope immediately shattering. She had been so vulnerable, so exposed, pleading for help, and now… she was being rejected.
Her hands shook as she tried to compose herself, wiping away the tears that had streaked her cheeks. She had no idea what to say. Su Jiyai’s cold response hit her like a slap to the face.
“B-but… please… I’m desperate,” Wang Bao stammered, her voice weak and pitiful. She was still on her knees, her eyes full of sorrow.
“I’ll do anything you ask. I-I’m not strong like you, Boss Su, but I can help… Please…”
Su Jiyai leaned back in her chair, observing Wang Bao with a calculating gaze.
Her fingers tapped rhythmically on the armrest, her face expressionless.
Wang Bao’s desperation might have moved others, but Su Jiyai wasn’t like other people.
She knew Wang Bao’s type—people who wanted revenge but never had the courage to seek it themselves.
Not to mention she doesn’t want Wang Bao to live a good life.
“You say you’ll do anything,” Su Jiyai said, her voice steady and calm.
“But do you truly understand what ‘anything’ entails? It’s easy to say those words when you’re desperate, but actions speak louder.”
Wang Bao swallowed hard, her body trembling from both fear and anticipation.
“I-I do, Boss Su. I’ll prove it. Please, give me a chance.”
A small, barely noticeable smirk appeared on Su Jiyai’s face.
She leaned forward, her piercing gaze locking onto Wang Bao’s.
“Alright,” Su Jiyai said slowly, her voice lowering a bit, almost as if she was testing Wang Bao’s resolve.
“If you truly want to prove yourself, I’ll give you an opportunity. But understand this—there is no room for hesitation or failure in my world.”
Wang Bao’s eyes widened in both relief and fear. This was it. A chance.
“I’ll do it,” Wang Bao nodded vigorously, her heart pounding in her chest. “Whatever you need, I’ll do it.”
Su Jiyai regarded her silently for a moment, her expression unreadable. Then, with an almost bored tone, she spoke again.
“Li Yuan is not someone you can just confront with anger. She’s manipulative, and she’ll use that to her advantage, just like she did with you.
So if you want revenge, you’ll need to get smarter. You’ll need to play the game better than she does.”
Wang Bao listened intently, her mind racing.
The idea of outsmarting Li Yuan was both daunting and thrilling. She could finally get back at the person who had ruined her life.

“I’ll teach you a few things,” Su Jiyai continued, her tone sharpening.
“But make no mistake—this isn’t out of charity. You’ll work for me. And if you fail or cause problems… there won’t be a second chance.”
Wang Bao nodded quickly, not daring to refuse.
She knew this was the only opportunity she had. “I won’t fail, Boss Su. I swear.”
Su Jiyai’s cold smirk deepened slightly.
“We’ll see. For now, you can start by gathering information on Li Yuan. I want to know every detail about her, everything she’s been doing since she left you. You’ll report directly to me.”
Wang Bao nodded, still kneeling, but now her mind was working frantically.
She had no idea how she would gather this information, but she had no choice.
This was her only chance to get revenge—and to survive.
“Get up,” Su Jiyai said coolly. “Your tears won’t win you anything in this world. It will only show people how spineless you are.”
Wang Bao slowly stood, wiping her face again, though her body was still trembling.
She nodded, trying to gather her composure.
Once she left, the system asked Su Jiyai
[Host are you truly planning to employ Wang Bao?]
Su Jiyai laughed, “Help? Do I look so kind to you system?”
[Host, you act like a saint sometimes.]
If it wasn’t for its mechanical voice, Su Jiyai suspected that it was taunting her.
“Ah? Giving reality checks are we? Sure, at least I am much better than some defective system, that doesn’t even know in which category it lies.”
System: “…” Host are you offended?
[Host you didn’t tell me the answer to my question.]
“No, I don’t plan to.” Su Jiyai shook her head,
“I will get all the information about Li Yuan from her and eventually make her deal with Li Yuan. If that won’t be enough, I will deal with Li Yuan myself.”
Su Jiyai chuckled softly, leaning back in her chair as she crossed her arms.
“Wang Bao thinks I’m giving her a real shot,” she muttered, shaking her head. “But all I’m doing is letting her dig her own grave.”
The system beeped again, curious.
[Host, is it really wise to involve someone so emotional?]
“She’s easy to control. Once I get what I need, she’ll be useless to me.”
[Host, why bother with Wang Bao? You could take down Li Yuan yourself.]
Su Jiyai smirked.
“Oh, I will. But this is more entertaining, don’t you think? Watching her stumble, watching her realize that revenge doesn’t bring peace… it’s satisfying.”
[And if Wang Bao succeeds?]
“Then she’ll get her revenge, and I’ll get what I need. Either way, I win.”
Su Jiyai stood up and stretched, feeling a sense of power surge through her.
She didn’t need to get her hands dirty unless absolutely necessary.
And Wang Bao was a perfect pawn to use in this twisted game.
“Let’s see how long she lasts,” Su Jiyai muttered.
