Chapter 294: Chapter 294: Growing Vegetables
Nova knelt down, trembling, as Su Jiyai’s light loomed over him. His voice cracked as he begged,
“Boss Su, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to expose the secret! Please, don’t kill me! I’ll do anything!”
Jax and Vira exchanged confused glances.
They didn’t understand why Nova was panicking so much. What secret had he exposed to HQ?
Su Jiyai’s voice was calm, but there was a dangerous edge to it.
“Oh, so you didn’t mean to? Yet you still did. Care to explain yourself?”
Nova’s body shook as he lowered his head further.
“I… I sent a message to HQ. I told them… about the girl in your base… the one who can grow vegetables. I didn’t know what to do.
I thought maybe I could gain their favor, but now I realize… I made a mistake. Please, spare me, Boss Su!”
Jax’s eyes widened in shock.
“Wait, what? You’re telling me there’s someone in this base who can grow vegetables?” Vira was equally stunned. She looked at Su Jiyai, trying to piece it together.
“How is that even possible? No one has been able to grow vegetables in the last 20 years.”
Su Jiyai chuckled softly, her form still glowing with that eerie light.
“Yes, you heard right. We have someone here who can grow fresh vegetables. A rare gift, wouldn’t you say?”
Jax and Vira’s awe turned into a kind of respect.
They had never imagined that Boss Su’s base held such a valuable secret. It was almost unbelievable.
Growing vegetables was something the world had lost after the apocalypse. The big powerhouses couldn’t figure it out, yet here, in Boss Su’s base, it was possible.
Su Jiyai’s voice cut through their thoughts. “Nova,” she said firmly, “have you told HQ the girl’s name yet?”
Nova shook his head quickly.
“No, no, I haven’t! I swear! I didn’t reveal her name, I just mentioned that a girl could grow vegetables. That’s all!”
Su Jiyai smirked, satisfied with the answer.
“Good. If HQ asks for the girl’s name, you’ll tell them it’s Su Yun.”
She snapped her fingers, and a portrait floated in front of them, glowing with a soft light.
The image was of a mature woman with long dark hair and sharp features—definitely not a child.
“This is Su Yun,” Su Jiyai said, her tone leaving no room for argument.
“If HQ ever asks you about the girl who can grow vegetables, you will think of this woman. Understood?”
Nova blinked in confusion, looking up slightly.
“Su Yun? But… that’s not her name, is it? Also, HQ already knows I reported that the girl looks about 12 or 13 years old, and Su Yun, from the portrait, looks like an adult.”
“Don’t worry about it.” Su Jiyai said.

Jax and Vira were puzzled too.
“But the age difference…” Jax began, his voice unsure.
“He clearly told HQ the girl looked like a child, 12 or 13. Su Yun looks much older than that. Won’t they notice the inconsistency?”
Su Jiyai had already anticipated this.
She smiled, though her eyes remained cold.
“Leave that to me. If HQ asks about the age difference, you’ll say that Su Yun has a rare condition that makes her look much younger than she is when she uses her superpower.
Tell them it’s a side effect of growing vegetables in a post-apocalyptic world. He will believe it.”
Such side effects were pretty common in superhumans.
Nova’s mouth fell open slightly in surprise, but he didn’t dare question further.
Su Jiyai always had a solution. He just had to follow her orders.
“Is that clear?” Su Jiyai asked, her voice stern.
Nova, Jax, and Vira all nodded in unison. “Yes, Boss Su. We’ll tell them exactly what you said.”
“Good,” Su Jiyai said, her tone softening. “Now, remember this: If any of you even think about disobeying or lying to me again, you’ll end up like Caden. Do I make myself clear?”
They all shivered at the mention of Caden, who had collapsed lifeless earlier. None of them wanted to meet the same fate.
“Yes, Boss Su. We understand,” Jax said, his voice trembling slightly.
“Good. Now report to HQ that you found the zombie but it is dead.” Su Jiyai ordered them.
Jax was surprised, “He is…dead?”
“Hm.” Su Jiyai answered in a grim tone.
Jax, Vira, and Nova were filled with deep regret, they had to change themselves for a mission that wasn’t even logical in the first place.
“Also, I want you to secretly bring all the spies HQ has placed in my base to me, understood?” Su Jiyai said in a gentle tone, but all of them shivered.
They instantly nodded their head. Su Jiyai smiled. If HQ can plant a spy in her base, why can’t she?
“Tell me more about the zombie kings.” Su Jiyai motioned, but all three of them shook their head,
“We don’t know much about them. We only know that they are more powerful than other zombies and HQ was able to forge a relationship with them. This time by sensing the energy in the air they reached your base.” Jax explained.
“Energy in the air? What kind of energy are we talking about?” Su Jiyai asked, her voice cold but curious.
Vira swallowed nervously before answering,
“We’re not sure, Boss Su. We were only told that the zombie kings can detect powerful sources of energy. Maybe it’s something to do with the zombie.”
Su Jiyai remained silent for a moment, her mind racing. If these zombie kings could track energy, then they posed a bigger threat than she initially thought.
“Alright,” Su Jiyai said finally. “You’ve done well reporting this information. Continue to act as if you’re still loyal to HQ, but from now on, everything they tell you goes through me first. Understood?”
Jax, Vira, and Nova all nodded quickly, not daring to argue
Su Jiyai’s glowing form dimmed slightly, signaling the end of the conversation.
“Good. Now, go and make sure your report to HQ about the zombie is convincing. Don’t make any mistakes.”
