Chapter 300: Chapter 300: Spirit Beast?
The silver-haired woman as if understanding what the elder wanted to know, explained to the elder,
“Elder this man here is named Jake, this young woman is Xi Ping and this wolf cub is their friend.”
Friend. Not spirit beast. It means the spirit beast was uncontracted.
The elder was so excited that it wanted to scoop the blue wolf cub in his arms right away.
However, he restrained himself. It was still not confirmed if these people were innocent or not.
Maybe they can be assassins or spies belonging to some other sect and were sent here to mislead them.
“Where do you come from?” he asked in a deep, authoritative voice, his eyes narrowing slightly.
Jake, not wanting to reveal they had come through a portal from another world, quickly glanced at Su Jiyai.
The wolf cub barked softly as if reminding him of something.
Jake cleared his throat, remembering the story Su Jiyai had made up earlier.
“We… uh… we come from a distant place,” Jake began cautiously.
“Our village was small, not well-known. It was destroyed by a powerful enemy.”
The elder raised an eyebrow, and the silver-haired woman crossed her arms, looking interested.
“Our village was peaceful,” Jake continued, feeling the weight of their stares.
“But one day, a group of rogue cultivators attacked. They were looking for something… something powerful, but we didn’t know what it was.
They killed many people, including our families. Xi Ping and I barely escaped with our lives.”
Jake’s voice trembled a little, trying to sell the story as best he could.
Su Jiyai, sensing his nervousness, gave a soft whine and nudged his leg, as if encouraging him to keep going.
“And… and Su Jiyai here,” Jake gestured to the wolf cub, “she saved us. She’s special, you see. Not just any spirit beast. She has powers that even we don’t fully understand.”
With a downcast expression, he continued,
“We had a teleportation scroll as an inheritance and used it because one of our friends was gravely injured.
We had torn the teleportation scroll in the expectation that we would get teleported to some realm…I mean the secret realm. But in the end, we ended up here.”
The elder stroked his long white beard, deep in thought as Jake finished his story. His eyes narrowed slightly, still suspicious, but he didn’t interrupt.
Xi Ping stepped forward, trying to back up Jake’s tale.
“We didn’t mean to intrude. It’s just… everything happened so fast. We didn’t know where the teleportation scroll would take us.”
The silver-haired woman looked at Su Jiyai, who was sitting quietly by Jake’s side, wagging her tail innocently.
She smiled softly, her previous stern expression softening a bit.
“And this spirit beast, Su Jiyai… she saved you during the attack?” she asked, her voice now more curious than accusatory.
Jake nodded quickly.

“Yes! She fought off those rogue cultivators. Without her, we wouldn’t be here today.”
Su Jiyai let out a small bark as if confirming Jake’s words.
The elder’s eyes lit up again at the wolf cub, clearly impressed but still cautious.
“Teleportation scrolls are rare,” the elder finally said, his voice measured.
“If what you say is true, then you are very lucky to have survived such an attack.”
Jake swallowed, feeling the weight of the elder’s scrutiny.
He didn’t dare look at Xi Ping or Su Jiyai, afraid their nervousness might give them away.
The elder stared in Jake’s direction and said,
“From your and this young woman’s weak cultivation, I can be assured that you both might truly belong to some backward village.”
Jake. Strong Vampire.: “…” Ignorance is bliss!
Xi. Tetra Superhuman. Ping. :”…” Should I showcase my power?
The elder continued,
“But we must verify your story. You say you’re not from this land, and that you used a scroll to come here. We will have to investigate further before you can be trusted.”
Jake nodded, trying to look as sincere as possible.
“Of course, elder. We understand. We’re just grateful to be safe for now.”
The silver-haired woman glanced at the elder, then back at Jake, Xi Ping, and Su Jiyai.
“You must be tired from your journey. For now, you will stay in the guest quarters until the elders decide your fate.”
The elder nodded in agreement.
“Yes, you will be watched closely. Do not cause any trouble, and perhaps we will learn more about who you truly are.”
Jake, Xi Ping, and Su Jiyai all nodded, relieved they hadn’t been thrown out or worse.
As they were led away to the guest quarters, the elder suddenly shouted,
“Stop.”
All three of them froze. Then before anyone can react, the elder scooped Su Jiyai in his arms.
Xi Ping:…! Did he see through our disguise?
Jake:…! What was it doing?
Jake and Xi Ping’s expression changed.
But then the elder spoke, his tone serious yet oddly caring.
“I will show the spirit beast around, considering it might be scared. I think it might have suffered some injuries too. I can see a wound on its hind leg, so I will help you both treat it.”
Xi Ping blinked in confusion. “Uh… thank you, elder, but—”
The elder cut her off, shaking his head as if he was doing them a huge favor.
“Tsk…tsk… usually, I don’t do such things, but considering your story might be true, I’ll do it on your behalf as compensation.”
Jake’s mouth dropped open slightly.
Compensation? For what? They hadn’t even asked for help with Su Jiyai.
In fact, Su Jiyai didn’t have any real injuries—her leg wound was from a small scratch that had already healed.
Before they could protest further, the silver-haired woman stepped forward and said,
“The elder is right. Spirit beasts like this one are rare and need proper care. It’s a miracle it’s still alive after what you’ve been through.”
Jake and Xi Ping exchanged nervous glances.
“But we….” don’t need your help.
Before Jake can finish his words, the elder slowly started to levitate.
“Then I won’t stop you both from resting.” The elder said.
