Su Rong smiled sweetly at her mother, though inside she felt a little tired of the constant questions.

Wei Xin had been asking about Hope Base’s luxuries nonstop ever since they left Black Ray base.

“Yes, mom,” Su Rong said patiently,

“Hope Base has all of that. The electricity runs all the time, and the walls are super strong. Food is cheap, and the rooms are really nice.”

Wei Xin clapped her hands in excitement. “I can’t wait to see it! I hope the rooms are as beautiful as they say.”

Su Jin, sitting next to her, leaned forward, looking curious.

“Do you think your sister will truly treat us nicely? What do you think her intentions are this time?”

Su Rong rolled her eyes internally.

Her sister Su Yun? Of course, she wants to take revenge on the family. Only her dumb parents could think that Su Yun wanted to share with them.

Before she could reply, Wei Xin shook her head,

“Her? She is a rotten seed! That b*tch! I treated her so well. Even kicked out that little slut Su Jiyai on that b*tch’s behalf. What did she do?

Once she got married to Ou Lin, she forgot about us. At first, she used our connections to raise Ou Lin’s position and then snatched your father’s job!

We begged her for pennies. And what did she say? ‘Mother, father, even I am in a tight spot.’ Tight Spot my foot! She was practically eating luxurious food every single day!”

Su Rong kept her face calm, but inside she was screaming, Oh, here we go again.

Her mom had been ranting about Su Yun for a year now, always bringing up the same old stuff.

Su Rong knew the truth though—Su Yun had never been the perfect daughter their parents wanted her to be, but she wasn’t as bad as they made her out to be either.

If she was in Su Yun’s position she might have done the same.

Who would want to support a group of blood-sucking relatives?

Did her mother forget how she used to run to Ou Lin’s house every 2 days and stay there all the time, just so she could get some money for her home?

Or did she forget how each time, she would ask Su Yun to pack food for Su Han?

On top of it, her mother would even ask for money from Su Yun time and time again.

“Mom, let’s just focus on getting settled here, okay?”

Su Rong said, trying to change the subject before it got worse.

But it was too late—Wei Xin was already on a roll.

“That ungrateful brat!” Wei Xin continued, her voice rising.

“We gave her everything! Raised her, fed her, and she repays us like this? I can’t believe she had the nerve to invite us to her base now. I bet she just wants to see us grovel!”

Su Jin, who had been quiet, added,

“I still don’t trust her. She’s probably planning something. Su Yun’s always been sneaky like that.”

Su Rong sighed. Of course, her parents couldn’t let it go.

They still blamed Su Yun for everything that went wrong in their lives, from their money problems to losing their home in Willow Land.

In reality, Su Yun was just smarter than them.

She knew how to play the game. Sure, she wasn’t the most loving daughter, but she wasn’t the villain her parents made her out to be either.

“Look,” Su Rong said, trying to keep the peace,

“Su Yun might not be the best, but she wouldn’t have invited us to Hope Base if she didn’t have some reason. Let’s just see what happens.”

Wei Xin snorted.

“Reason? The only reason she’d want us here is to humiliate us. I bet she’s laughing right now, thinking about how we had to leave everything behind.”

Su Jin crossed his arms, nodding in agreement.

“Yeah, she probably thinks she’s won. But we’ll show her. We don’t need her help.”

Su Rong rolled her eyes when they weren’t looking. Her parents were hopeless.

They still hadn’t figured out that Su Yun wasn’t the enemy—they just couldn’t stand that she had succeeded while they hadn’t.

To change the subject she gently said to her parents,

“Three of you should sleep. We will take 10 days to reach the Hope Base. You don’t want to look bad while confronting her, right?”

The distance between the Hope Base and Black Ray Base was around 500 km. In a normal world, it would have only taken 10 hours.

Because of zombies, they couldn’t travel during the night. Because of extreme heat, they can travel during the day.

The only time they could travel was in the morning when the temperature wasn’t too high and there weren’t a lot of zombies too.

Wei Xin nodded eagerly.

“You’re right, I have to look my best when we see her. She can’t see us looking tired and worn out.”

Su Jin, still frowning, leaned back and grumbled,

“I’m not worried about looking good. I’m worried about what Su Yun has up her sleeve.”

“Just try to get some rest,” Su Rong said softly, “We’ll figure everything out once we get there.”

Her parents exchanged glances, then finally laid down to rest.

Su Rong watched them for a moment, feeling a mix of exhaustion and frustration. This whole trip was going to be a nightmare if they kept up with their complaints and suspicions.

The next few days were long and tiring.

Traveling under the morning sun was the only option, but it wasn’t easy.

They had to stop often to avoid zombie herds, and the constant stress of being on the road was wearing everyone down.

During one of the night, Su Rong fell asleep. She saw a dream.

In the dream, her clothes were dirty and messy, and she was kneeling in front of someone.

“I am sorry…I am sorry for everything. Please spare my life…Su Jiyai.” She heard herself say.
