Chapter 370: Chapter 370: The Past-2
Mr. Qin’s face contorted in fury, and he gritted his teeth.
He was so angry, it looked like he might explode.
Just then, Mrs. Qin, who had been quietly sipping tea, finally spoke. Her voice was calm, almost too calm.
“Fine, Qin Feng,” she said, setting her teacup down gently. “We will accept the girl you’ve chosen. Go and bring her to us.”
Qin Feng’s eyes lit up with joy. He couldn’t believe it! He bowed his head in gratitude, his heart pounding with excitement.
“Thank you, Mother,” he said, trying to hide his overwhelming happiness. “I’ll go get her right away.”
He turned and rushed out of the house, his heart racing at the thought of seeing Su Jiyai.
After he left, Qin Feng’s younger brother turned to Mrs. Qin, his face filled with confusion.
“Mom, were you serious about letting him marry that girl?”
Mrs. Qin just smiled softly, her eyes glinting with something mysterious.
She didn’t answer. Instead, she simply sipped her tea, a quiet, knowing smile playing on her lips.
………………
Qin Feng returned to the army base, his heart full of excitement.
He couldn’t wait to see Su Jiyai and finally confess his feelings to her.
First, he went straight to the ordinary people’s dormitory, thinking she might be there. But when he got there, the place was empty.
His brow furrowed in confusion as he exited the dormitory, scanning the area.
Just then, he spotted Han Weilin, Su Jiyai’s best friend. Her eyes were red like she’d been crying.
Qin Feng jogged up to her, concern rising.
“Han Weilin, have you seen Su Jiyai?” he asked, his voice filled with hope. “I’ve been looking for her everywhere.”
But as he got closer, he noticed her tear-streaked face, and his heart sank.
“What happened?” he asked, his voice dropping as he saw the pain in her eyes.
Han Weilin stared at him, stunned for a moment, before bursting into tears. She grabbed onto his forearms, her grip tight.
“Q-Qin Feng… Su Jiyai… She’s gone,” she choked out, her voice trembling.
Qin Feng blinked, his mind refusing to accept what she said.
“What? No, no, don’t joke with me, Han Weilin,” he said quickly. “I have something important to tell her. I need to talk to her.”
Han Weilin shook her head, tears streaming down her face.
“I’m not joking, Qin Feng. She’s really gone… She didn’t come back…”
Qin Feng froze, staring at her in disbelief.
“What do you mean? Where is she?” he asked, his voice shaking.
Han Weilin wiped her eyes, her voice trembling as she explained,

“During one of her patrols at Gate 19… she wandered too far off… By the time she realized, it was too late. She had already left the safe zone.
A whole group of zombies started chasing her. She ran, but… the last person who saw her said there were thousands of zombies chasing her.”
Her words hung in the air like a heavy weight.
“There’s no way she could’ve survived, Qin Feng… She’s gone.”
Qin Feng shook his head slowly, refusing to believe it.
“No… that’s not possible. Su Jiyai wouldn’t just disappear like that. She promised me she’d wait for me here. She wouldn’t leave, not without saying goodbye.” His voice cracked as he spoke.
Han Weilin shook her head again, her face filled with sorrow. “I wish I was lying, Qin Feng. But she’s… she’s really gone.”
Qin Feng stepped back, his heart pounding with panic. He shook his head in denial. “No… no, this can’t be happening.”
Without another word, he turned and rushed around the base, searching for her desperately.
He checked every corner, asking every soldier on duty if they knew what had happened at Gate 19.
But each time, the answers were the same.
There was no trace of Su Jiyai.
His heart sank deeper with each passing minute, the panic rising inside him like a storm.
His desperation only grew stronger as days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into a months.
He traced every path from Gate 19, retracing her footsteps over and over, hoping to find any clue, any sign that she might still be out there.
But no matter how hard he searched, there was nothing. It was as if she had disappeared into thin air.
He didn’t give up, though. He couldn’t.
His heart wouldn’t allow him to.
But after a month of finding nothing, he realized he couldn’t do this alone. That’s when he decided to ask for help from the base leader, Xin Lufang.
One afternoon, Qin Feng stood before Xin Lufang’s desk, his voice filled with hope.
“Sir, I need your help. Su Jiyai… she went missing about a month ago. I’ve been searching for her, but I can’t find her anywhere. Please, could you send some soldiers to help me search? I know she’s out there.”
Xin Lufang leaned back in his chair, his expression softening as he listened. He sighed, showing a sympathetic look.
“Qin Feng, I understand how you feel. Losing someone like that is hard… fine. I’ll send a few soldiers to help you. But don’t get your hopes up too much.”
Qin Feng’s heart swelled with gratitude.
“Thank you, sir! Thank you so much!” He bowed deeply before leaving, feeling a small glimmer of hope return.
However, as weeks passed, Xin Lufang’s attitude began to change.
The soldiers he sent slowly started to dwindle.
One day, he called Qin Feng into his office again.
“Qin Feng, it’s been weeks now,” Xin Lufang said, his voice more serious this time.
“There’s been no sign of Su Jiyai. You need to start thinking about your future.”
Qin Feng frowned, not liking where this was going.
“What do you mean, sir? I can’t just give up on her. I promised her I’d find her.”
Xin Lufang sighed, leaning forward on his desk.
“Listen to me, Qin Feng. From my sources… Su Jiyai is dead. It’s time for you to move on. Xuan Jin comes from a good family, and she’s been interested in you for a while. Marrying her would be a smart move.”
