Chapter 373: Chapter 373: Letter
Qin Liang’s face was pale as he took a deep breath and glanced at everyone nervously.
“There’s… there’s a letter,” he stammered, his voice shaky.
“Someone sent it. They said Su Jiyai’s body is in a lake. But… but there’s something strange. They claim she can be resurrected because of the special power she awakened before… you know, before she died.”
Mrs. Qin’s face went white, and Xuan Jin gasped.
“Resurrected? That’s ridiculous!” Xuan Jin’s voice trembled, but there was fear behind her words.
Mrs. Qin, on the other hand, was furious. She pointed a sharp finger at Qin Liang, scolding him.
“Why would you bring this up now? Couldn’t you see the timing?!”
But Qin Liang didn’t back down. He shook his head, looking grim.
“Mother, that’s not even the worst part. Su Jiyai’s adoptive parents—they’re outside.
They found out about her relationship with Qin Feng… and they brought a whole crowd with them. They’re making a huge scene.”
Mrs. Qin’s expression turned stormy, her eyes narrowing dangerously. She took a deep breath, clearly trying to keep her temper in check.
“Unbelievable,” she muttered, more to herself than anyone else. “They dare to cause trouble at a time like this.”
She turned sharply toward Xuan Jin, her tone icy.
“Continue. Finish what you started. Once it’s done, Qin Feng will have no choice but to take responsibility.”
Xuan Jin nodded, though her face had lost some of its earlier confidence.
She moved slowly, approaching Qin Feng again, but just as she was about to reach for him, there was a knock at the door.
Everyone froze.
Qin Liang, panicking, rushed to open the door without waiting for his mother’s permission. Mrs. Qin’s eyes flared in anger.
“Qin Liang!” she snapped, about to reprimand him for his impulsiveness.
But the words died on her lips when she saw who was standing in the doorway.
It was Xuan Pei, the head of the Xuan family, and he didn’t look happy.
He strode into the room, his dark eyes sweeping over the scene. There was a tension in the air as he faced Mrs. Qin, his expression unreadable.
“Mrs. Qin,” Xuan Pei began, his voice low and controlled, “is it true that your son, Qin Feng, has feelings for a woman named Su Jiyai? The same woman who’s now… missing?”
Mrs. Qin immediately shook her head, her voice calm but cold.
“No, of course not. Qin Feng would never—”
But before she could finish, Qin Liang, still standing by the door, cut in.
“Actually, Father-in-law… I mean, Mr. Xuan… Qin Feng really did love Su Jiyai. He… he even told me about it before.”
Xuan Pei’s face darkened further, his gaze shifting between Mrs. Qin and Qin Liang.
Mrs. Qin clenched her fists, glaring at her youngest son as if she could strangle him right there.
“You foolish boy!” she hissed under her breath.

But Xuan Pei wasn’t done. He turned back to Mrs. Qin, his voice dripping with displeasure.
“It seems there’s much you haven’t told me, Mrs. Qin. If your son is in love with another woman, how exactly do you plan on forcing him into this marriage with my daughter?”
The room fell into silence, the tension thick enough to cut with a knife.
Mrs. Qin’s face twisted in frustration as Xuan Pei stared at her, waiting for an explanation.
“Qin Liang is lying!” Mrs. Qin said quickly, her voice sharp.
“The adoptive parents of Su Jiyai are just spreading these rumors, hoping to extort money from us. They think they can get rich by making false claims about Qin Feng.”
Xuan Pei’s frown deepened, and he looked over at Qin Liang. “Then why did your son say that Qin Feng liked Su Jiyai?”
Mrs. Qin clenched her teeth, glaring at Qin Liang. Her words came out bitter and cold.
“Qin Liang is a fool. He… he likes Xuan Jin and thought that by lying, he could ruin this arrangement. He’s gone so far as to make up these ridiculous stories. It’s embarrassing.”
Xuan Pei turned to Qin Liang with a look of pure dissatisfaction.
Even Xuan Jin, who had been standing quietly, now looked at Qin Liang with disdain, as if he were a bug beneath her shoe.
Mrs. Qin continued her voice firm.
“Think about it, Mr. Xuan. If Qin Feng truly loved this girl, Su Jiyai, why didn’t he announce it earlier? Why now, only after she’s gone missing? If there were any truth to it, wouldn’t he have told the world about his love? This is all nonsense, started by greedy people trying to stir trouble.”
Xuan Pei slowly nodded, seeming to consider her words. His expression softened, and just as he opened his mouth to apologize, the door burst open again.
Two people rushed in, their faces pale and desperate. They hurried toward Mrs. Qin, kneeling at her feet without hesitation.
It was Su Jin and Wei Xin, Su Jiyai’s adoptive parents.
Mrs. Qin blinked, caught off guard by their sudden appearance.
Before she could say anything, Su Jin began banging his head on the ground, his forehead turning red as he begged.
“Please, Mrs. Qin! Please, find our daughter! We know you had something to do with it!” His voice was filled with a mix of desperation and fake grief.
“We know Qin Feng liked Su Jiyai! We know you didn’t want them together, so you did something to her!”
Wei Xin, crying big fake tears, grabbed onto Mrs. Qin’s dress, wiping her eyes dramatically.
“Please, Madam Qin, just return our daughter to us! We won’t make a fuss, we swear! We just want her back. You can keep your riches; we don’t want any money! Just return Su Jiyai, and we’ll go quietly.”
Mrs. Qin’s face went pale with anger as she realized what they were doing.
They were throwing dirty water on her name in front of everyone, accusing her without any proof.
And they were doing it in such a way that made them seem like innocent, grieving parents.
