Chapter 400: Chapter 400: DNA
“System…I think he is related to me.” Su Jiyai came to a conclusion.
Till now, she hasn’t encountered a human or a zombie who wouldn’t be electrocuted on touching the wall.
She had once touched the wall when it was on and didn’t get electrocuted at all.
The only plausible explanation for the zombie not being electrocuted is that the zombie king in front of her was related to her.
“System, is there any DNA testing equipment in the store which can give instant results?
The system processed Su Jiyai’s question for a moment before responding.
[Host, there is an advanced DNA testing kit available in the store. It can provide instant results within seconds. Would you like to purchase it?]
Su Jiyai nodded, her fingers already hovering over the purchase button.
“Yes, buy it,” she commanded.
[Purchase complete. The kit is now available in your inventory.]
A small, sleek device materialized on the table in front of her.
It was compact, no larger than a smartphone, with a small slot for inserting samples and a digital screen to display the results.
“Good,” Su Jiyai murmured, her eyes flicking back to the monitor, where Kane still stood by the wall, his hands pressed against the shimmering barrier.
She hesitated for a second, then pressed the microphone button again.
“Hello, can you tell me your name?”
“Kane.” The zombie king replied.
“Kane,” Su Jiyai called out, her voice firm.
“I need you to cooperate with me. If what I suspect is true, we may have a connection. I need a sample of your blood for testing.”
Kane’s glowing eyes widened slightly, surprise flickering across his face.
He seemed to hesitate for a moment as if weighing his options. But then, slowly, he nodded.
“I… I will do it,” he rasped, his voice barely audible.
Su Jiyai activated a small opening near the base’s entrance, a hatch where samples could be delivered without breaking the security seal.
“Place your hand inside the opening,” she instructed. “The system will draw a small blood sample.”
Kane looked wary but obediently approached the opening.
He extended his hand through the hatch, his cracked skin pale against the metallic surface.
The system worked quickly, extracting a small vial of his blood before sealing the hatch again.
Su Jiyai wasted no time, inserting the vial into the DNA testing kit and waiting as the device hummed softly, analyzing the sample.
Seconds later, the screen blinked, and the results appeared.
Su Jiyai’s eyes widened in shock as she stared at the results.
[Match found: 40% genetic compatibility.]

Her heart pounded in her chest. Kane was related to her.
The system’s analysis confirmed it—he wasn’t just any random zombie king; he shared her bloodline.
But how?
He looked as if he was around her father’s age.
Maybe he was her mother’s or father’s brother?
Or is Kane a distant relative, perhaps a sibling she didn’t know about, who turned into a zombie during the apocalypse?
The thought seems absurd, but considering the genetic match, only that seems to be the explanation.
Kane, oblivious to the results, remained outside the barrier, waiting for her response.
His glowing green eyes locked onto the camera, a faint hope lingering in them.
Su Jiyai pressed the microphone button again, her voice steady but filled with confusion.
“Kane… you’re related to me,” she said, the words hanging in the air like a revelation.
Kane’s expression shifted, a mixture of confusion and disbelief crossing his face.
“R-Related?” he repeated, his voice trembling.
“Yes,” Su Jiyai confirmed, still trying to process the implications. “I don’t know how, but the test confirms it. You share my DNA.”
Kane took a step back, his glowing eyes dimming slightly as the weight of the information hit him.
“I… don’t remember,” he muttered, his voice low and broken.
“I don’t remember anything before… the change.”
Su Jiyai bit her lip, her mind racing.
If Kane couldn’t remember his past, then uncovering the truth would be even more difficult.
But one thing was certain now—he wasn’t just any enemy. He was family, and that changed everything.
“What do we do now?” Kane asked, his voice filled with uncertainty.
Su Jiyai’s gaze hardened as she looked at the monitor, her mind made up.
“We stop Narak,” she said firmly.
He was the foremost problem currently.
She turned toward and gazed at him gently,
“Thank you for informing.”
Kane suddenly seemed to have thought something and took out a paper.
In it was a blue cat drawing.
“You know her?”
Su Jiyai was stunned to see her wolf cub version’s sketch in Kane’s hand and suddenly turned wary.
“Why are you trying to find her?”
Kane stared at the sketch before saying in a hesitant voice,
“My friend…look…same…I…know her…from past.”
“How do you know about her?” Su Jiyai pressed, her voice firm but cautious. “Who exactly is this ‘friend’ you’re talking about?”
Kane’s glowing eyes flickered as he searched his fragmented memory for an answer. His hand trembled slightly as he held the sketch, his voice unsteady.
“I… I don’t know,” Kane admitted. “It’s all so blurry… but this blue cat—your form—she was important. I remember her protecting me. She was there before everything fell apart.”
Before everything falls apart?
She was only a child!
So the person Kane was talking about wasn’t definitely her!
Who? Who was it?
Her mother? Or her father?
No, Kane said…she…
So it was her mother.
Kane knows her mother?
Su Jiyai was so excited that she nearly jumped out of her chair.
Kane was related to her mother. As long as she can find a cure for zombies, she can get information about her mother!
Su Jiyai’s heart raced with excitement.
If Kane knew her mother, this could be the key to uncovering her family’s past and finding answers about her lineage—answers she never thought she would get, especially in this apocalyptic world.
“Kane… the person you remember, this blue cat form,” she started, her voice trembling slightly.
“Do you remember her name? Or anything about her?”
Kane’s eyes flickered as he strained to pull the fragmented memories together.
His hand still clutched the sketch, but his gaze remained distant, as though he was grasping at something just out of reach.
“I don’t… I don’t remember a name,” Kane muttered, his voice tinged with frustration.
“But… she was kind. Protective. She fought for us—against them.”
Us?
So Kane was a human… then his chances of being a brother of her mother are
close to zero.
Then who was Kane?
His eyes darkened, and Su Jiyai could tell he was referring to whatever had caused the downfall of their world.
“But I can’t… everything is so broken.”
Su Jiyai nodded, trying to remain calm despite the surge of emotions swirling inside her.
She needed to take this step by step.
If Kane remembered her mother, she would need more details to figure out what had happened.
“We’ll figure it out,” Su Jiyai reassured him, though she was speaking more to herself.
“But first, we need to focus. You said this person protected you—my mother, I assume.
Which means she must have known about you before the change. Maybe she left clues behind, something to help us.”
Kane shook his head, his eyes blinking rapidly as he tried to steady his thoughts.
“I don’t know. I don’t remember any clues. But… there was something. I feel like I’m missing something important. Something… tied to why I’m like this.”
Su Jiyai leaned forward, her mind racing with the possibilities.
Her mother’s connection to Kane was an unexpected twist, but now she had more reason than ever to pursue this cure.
If she could help Kane, maybe he could help her understand the truth of what had happened to her mother—and why Kane had become what he was.
She took a deep breath and addressed the system.
“System, is there any information or records related to zombies who have a genetic connection to humans?”
The system took a moment to process her question before responding.
[Host, no official records or research related to human-zombie genetic connections have been found in the database. However, there are traces of half-zombies, like the one in the base.]
“Looks like I have to first find the cure for the zombie virus…” Su Jiyai muttered.
However…
“Kane, would you like to live with me?” Su Jiyai asked gently.
He was like her family; at least, that was what the results show, and also he was the key to get more information about her mother.
So he needs to stay with her.
Kane, however, shook his head and explained in broken English,
“Other…like…me….need…me…my…friends…they…have no brain….they need me.”
Su Jiyai: “…”
Honestly, she wasn’t expecting such a human reply from a half-brain dead zombie.
“System, can you give me a call button or something using which, if Kane presses it, I can reach his location?”
The system was silent before replying,
[Yes, Host. But…]
