Chapter 423: Chapter 423: Interstellar Era
“Yes.” Su Jiyai nodded with a serious expression and suddenly a portal opened behind the man.
Just as the portal was about to devour the man, Su Jiyai pushed him away and shouted,
“Look out.”
Su Jiyai’s push barely moved the man, but it was enough to get him out of the way.
The portal sucked in a few items from the street, but the man quickly regained his balance and stumbled away from its pull.
His eyes widened as he looked at the swirling vortex behind him.
“Whoa! You weren’t kidding about those unauthorized portals,” he muttered, his earlier suspicion replaced by surprise.
Su Jiyai gave him a quick nod, trying to stay calm.
“Told ya. These things are popping up everywhere. That’s why Special Agent Rex sent me. It’s getting dangerous.”
The man turned back to the portal, which was starting to shrink.
“This is… serious.” He glanced at Su Jiyai, his tone softer now.
“If you’re really on a mission, I need to report this. Unauthorized portals are a big deal around here.”
Su Jiyai felt her stomach twist. She hadn’t expected things to escalate this quickly.
“Um, no need to report it just yet,” she said, trying to think of a way out.
“We don’t want to alert the wrong people, right? I should handle it quietly before it gets worse.”
The man rubbed his chin, looking thoughtful.
“You’re right… But I’ll have to let my superiors know soon. If these portals keep appearing, the whole city could be in danger.”
Su Jiyai forced a smile, her mind racing.
“Let’s just keep this between us for now. I’ll handle the portals, and you won’t have to worry about a thing.”
The man nodded, still looking a bit skeptical but less hostile.
“Alright, I’ll trust you… for now. But if another one of those things shows up, I’m reporting it. No second chances.”
“Got it,” Su Jiyai said, relief flooding through her. She quickly stepped back, giving him a small salute.
“Thanks for the trust, officer. I’ll take it from here.”
The man gave her a final glance, then turned and walked away, still shaking his head at what had just happened.
As soon as he was out of sight, Su Jiyai let out a long breath she didn’t know she’d been holding.
“What place I am in and how much time I have to stay here…” Su Jiyai muttered.
Just then a screen panel popped up in front of her.
[You are in interstellar Era. And you have to stay here for 2 months.]
“Eh? System weren’t you on update?” Su Jiyai asked in surprise.
But she didn’t hear the system’s voice instead the panel in front of her fluctuated before a line appeared in front of her.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
[I am not the system. I am an auxiliary AI assistant.]
“Oh…so, what is an interstellar era and why is the stay time so much ?” Su Jiyai asked.
[The Interstellar Era is a time when humanity has advanced far beyond Earth’s boundaries, colonizing other planets and creating advanced technology. This city you’re in is part of one of those colonies. As for the time limit, it’s because scroll 2 of the zombie virus antidote is present in this dimension.]
“Eh?” Su Jiyai was pleasantly surprised before saying, “Great! Do you know the location of the scroll 2?”
[I am sorry. I am just an auxiliary AI and don’t have much capacity.]
Su Jiyai sighed, scratching her head. “Of course… nothing can be easy, huh?”
She stared at the screen for a moment, then asked,
“Well, can you at least give me a hint about where to start looking for this scroll 2?”
The auxiliary AI panel flickered slightly before responding.
[It is with a girl named Leticia and she lives on a backwater planet named Tartarus. You are currently on the planet named Solara.]
“Oh…so I would need to reach that girl. Easy peasy. But the question is…Auxillary AI can gold be sold to get the currency of this interstellar world?” She asked.
[No.]
Su Jiyai bites her lips before asking,
“Then how about federal coins?”
[Federal coins of this world and your worlds are completely different.]
“Ugh…then is there anything in the inventory that can be used to get me the currency of this world?” Su Jiyai asked.
[I am sorry, I don’t have much data on that.]
Su Jiyai took a deep breath and decided to not argue with the AI. Instead, she took out the fire-resistant zombie’s crystal and absorbed it.
In an instant, she transformed into her human form.
Su Jiyai looked down at her new outfit and hair.
“Well… at least I won’t stand out too much,” she muttered.
Her blueberry pie-colored hair flowed gently behind her, and the blue fur clothes looked cozy, even if a little strange for this high-tech world.
She glanced around, making sure no one had noticed her sudden transformation.
“Alright, AI, I need to figure out how to get to Tartarus. Any ideas?”
[You will need a spaceship to travel between planets. Spaceships can be rented or bought, but without the local currency, you may have difficulty acquiring one.]
Su Jiyai groaned. “Great, so I’m stuck unless I find some way to make money.”
She started walking through the streets, her eyes scanning for any opportunities.
As she moved past stalls and shops, something caught her eye—a large holographic sign advertising a job posting.
“Wait, jobs!” Su Jiyai said aloud. “I can work and earn money, right?”
[That is a viable option,] the AI replied. [However, you must ensure that the job is within your skill set.]
Su Jiyai approached the holographic sign. The ad showed various jobs: delivery driver, tech support, and… gladiator.
She raised an eyebrow. “Gladiator? Like… fighting? I can definitely do that.”
[The gladiator arena is a popular form of entertainment on Solara. Competitors earn significant rewards if they win,] the AI explained.
Su Jiyai grinned.
“Perfect! I can fight, no problem. Let’s do this.”
Then she thought of the ID problem.
“AI, how do I get an ID here?” she asked, looking around cautiously to make sure no one was listening.
[To get a valid ID, you would need to visit the local registration office. They issue ID cards for all citizens and visitors. However, you will require some form of identity proof from this world,] the AI responded.
Su Jiyai groaned again.
“Of course, it can’t be that easy. I don’t have any proof, though. Can’t we just… hack something?”
[Hacking the system would alert authorities, which may cause complications for your mission,] the AI replied calmly.
“Ugh, okay, fine. I’ll have to find another way,” Su Jiyai muttered.
She started walking down the street again, trying to think of a plan.
As she passed by a dark alley, she noticed a few shady-looking people standing around.
One of them was leaning against the wall, smoking something that smelled weird.
Another guy was talking in hushed tones with someone who looked like they were carrying stolen tech.
“Maybe these guys can help me get a fake ID,” Su Jiyai thought.
She walked up to the guy who looked like the leader, the one smoking.
“Hey,” she called out, “I need an ID. Can you help me out?”
The guy glanced at her, his eyes narrowing.
He took another drag from his cigarette before blowing out a cloud of smoke.
“You don’t look like you’re from around here,” he said. However his eyes kept on looking at Su Jiyai up and down.
His other followers understood the gaze and whistled.
“Yeah, I am not.” Su Jiyai admitted frankly. “Now get me an ID.”
Seeing her confident demeanor, the other men and the leader stared at Su Jiyai for a long while.
“Why would I help you?” The leader asked as he snubbed the cigarette. He started to walk toward Su Jiyai, while his other followers, moved behind Su Jiyai.
It was clear that they wanted to take advantage of Su Jiyai.
Su Jiyai was unfazed and said with a smile,
“Because I asked you to do it.”
The leader’s little follower snickered as he glanced at Su Jiyai,
“Hah, look at her, boss. She thinks she’s tough.”
“What makes her words even more funny is how she is behaving! Haha! Just because you ask us to do something for you, we will do it? ”
The leader smirked and motioned for his guys to grab Su Jiyai.
Two of them grabbed her hands, holding her in place. Su Jiyai didn’t resist, staying calm, and said again,
“Get me the fake ID.”
The leader chuckled, walking closer. “Oh, I will. But first, I want to have some fun with you tonight.”
One of the followers piped up, “What about us, boss? Can we have a turn too?”
The leader, feeling generous, waved his hand. “After I’m done, you boys can have her.”
The followers grinned and laughed, their eyes gleaming with malicious intent.
The leader reached out to touch Su Jiyai’s face, but she stopped him with a firm voice,
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you. I’ll have to use force.”
