Chapter 437: Chapter 437: Poison
Su Jiyai’s brows furrowed when she saw Mei.
What was Mei doing there? Was Mei following her?
A hint of anger appeared in Su Jiyai’s eyes.
Mei, however, was completely unaware of Su Jiyai’s fury and said,
“I will inform others about your betrayal.”
Su Jiyai transformed back to her human form.
Due to the complete bloodline awakening, she no longer needed mutated fire zombie crystals to come back to her human form.
“What betrayal?” Su Jiyai asked in a puzzled voice.
The other wolves exchanged glances and glared at Mei with a ferocious look in their eyes. Their body tensed, and they looked ready to attack the second Su Jiyai gave them command.
Mei scoffed,
“What betrayal? Ragnar, you are helping these monsters! You are making them more powerful than humans!”
Su Jiyai blinked. For a second, she didn’t know whether to laugh or be mad.
“I’m not helping monsters,” she said slowly. “They’re not monsters, Mei. They’re just… different.”
Mei’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“Different? Ragnar, you’re standing in the middle of a temple full of mutated wolves! They worship you! You’re glowing for crying out loud!”
Su Jiyai took a step forward.
Transforming back to her wolf form.
Her silver fur shimmered under the light, and her claws tapped against the ground with each step.
“So what if they worship me? I didn’t ask for that. It just happened.”
Mei pointed at her.
“You powered them up! Do you understand the threats humanity will have to face due to their increased power? If their number increases, won’t they try to attack humanity?”
Su Jiyai understood Mei’s point and said softly.
“Don’t worry. As long as you don’t attack them, they will not…”
“Don’t talk like an illiterate!” Mei shouted.
The gray wolf, the little wolf’s mother, frowned and said,
“We will never attack humanity on our own.”
She turned toward Su Jiyai and said with a serious face,
“The humans are the ones who invaded our territory first. They took away the treasure we were protecting for years, and when we attacked them in return, they called us monsters. Is that fair?”
Su Jiyai conveyed the gray wolf’s words to Mei and said softly,
“You see? They’re not the ones starting the fights. We are.”

“Stupid! We didn’t ask them to protect it in the first place!” Mei shouted.
The gray wolf was furious and growled,
“You humans claim that whoever finds an item first, it becomes theirs! So why can’t we follow that logic too?”
Su Jiyai conveyed the words to Mei again.
Mei stepped back a little when she heard the gray wolf growl. But she still looked angry.
“That logic is for humans!” Mei yelled. “You’re beasts! You’re mutated creatures!”
The little cub bared his tiny fangs. “We’re not beasts! We have feelings, too!”
Before Su Jiyai could translate the words to Mei, she turned and left.
The gray wolf wanted to follow her, but Su Jiyai stopped her,
“Don’t worry, I will deal with her.”
The gray wolf hesitated before bowing her head. She believed Su Jiyai.
“I want you all to vow.” Su Jiyai said softly. “Vow to me that you will never take the initiative to attack the humans on your own.”
The wolves looked at each other. Some of them seemed confused, others a little upset. But then the gray wolf stepped forward.
“I promise,” she said seriously. “As long as the humans don’t attack first, we will not harm them.”
One by one, the other wolves stepped forward too. They all lowered their heads and said,”We vow, Goddess.”
The little cub ran up to Su Jiyai and wagged his tail. “I promise too! I won’t bite any human unless they try to hurt Mama.”
Su Jiyai transformed back to her human form and said,
“Then will I leave. I need to deal with matters.”
All the other wolves bowed to her.
Soon, she returned to where she had asked the team to wait and saw Mei talking with Kars, Juliet, and Blaze.
As soon as she saw Su Jiyai, her expression turned twisted.
Kars, however, patted Mei’s hand and said,
“Ragnar did nothing wrong. He is a beastman. Maybe that is why the wolves submitted to him. Alright, let’s not fuss.
Those wolves have already left. We just need to scout the mine, and we can then make a map and hand it to our employer!”
“But…” Mei opened her mouth to argue.
“No buts.” Blaze said, “Kars is right. Ragnar didn’t do any criminal offense. Why are you acting like he burned a city or something?”
Juliet crossed her arms.
“Honestly, Mei, you’re overreacting. Did the wolves attack you? No. Did Ragnar hurt you? Also no. So chill.”
Mei clenched her fists. Her eyes were red with frustration.
“You all are blind! He is not on our side anymore!”
Su Jiyai raised an eyebrow but stayed calm.
“Mei, I haven’t betrayed anyone. I just chose to listen. You should try that sometime.”
Mei looked like she wanted to scream, but Kars stepped between them.
“Enough. We have a mission, remember? Focus. We’re not here to judge anyone. We’re here to map the mine and report back.”
Blaze nodded. “Yeah. Let’s not turn this into drama hour.”
Mei huffed but didn’t say anything else. She just turned away with a stomp.
Kars gave Su Jiyai a small smile. “You okay?”
Su Jiyai nodded. “Yeah. Thanks for speaking up.”
Just then, the gray wolf arrived, and Mei turned tense,
“Look! Look! It is here to attack us!”
The gray wolf ignored Mei and turned to Su Jiyai,
“Goddess, you want to explore this mine? I can help you with it. I can lead you all and tell you who owns which area.”
Su Jiyai was delighted and told the news to the group, who were thrilled except for Mei,
“No way! This wolf is trying to sabotage us for sure. She might even lead us to a dangerous area!”
“Enough.” Su JIyai said coldly. “If you don’t want to follow stay behind, no one is forcing you to follow.”
Mei’s face turned red with anger, but she didn’t argue anymore. She just crossed her arms and huffed.
Kars looked at Su Jiyai. “So, the wolf can really help?”
Su Jiyai nodded. “Yes. She knows the mine well and can tell us which parts belong to which creatures.”
Juliet grinned. “That’s actually super useful. We won’t accidentally walk into a death trap.”
Blaze smirked. “Unless Mei jinxes it.”
Mei glared at him but said nothing.
The gray wolf flicked her tail. “Follow me. Stay close. Some areas are dangerous.”
The group started walking.
The mine was dark and damp, with strange glowing crystals sticking out of the walls. The deeper they went, the colder it got.
The gray wolf stopped and sniffed the air. “This tunnel leads to the lizard clan’s territory. They won’t attack unless provoked.”
“Lizards?” Blaze asked. “Like big ones?”
“Yes. They guard their eggs fiercely, so don’t touch anything,” the gray wolf warned.
Mei scoffed. “Great. More weird creatures.”
Su Jiyai ignored her and focused ahead. The tunnel split into two paths.
“Left leads to an abandoned human site,” the gray wolf said. “Right leads to a monster’s den.”
Kars looked at Su Jiyai. “Which way?”
Su Jiyai thought for a moment. “Let’s check the abandoned site first. It might have useful info.”
With the wolf’s help, they successfully avoided many dangerous areas and made the map.
Once everything was over, the gray wolf bowed and said,
“Goddess…maybe this is the last time we will meet. I want to thank you for all the things you have done for our pack.”
Su Jiyai’s heart softened. She gained a lot of things from her tour, and at one point, she even took away all the energy from the temple, and yet the wolves didn’t blame her.
Sometimes, monsters are better than humans.
Su Jiyai looked at the gray wolf, feeling a little sad. “You don’t have to thank me,” she said. “I just did what felt right.”
The gray wolf smiled, her eyes full of warmth. “Still, we are grateful.”
Su Jiyai nodded, then turned to leave with the others. The mine exploration was over, and it was time to go back.
As they walked, Mei stayed quiet. She looked grumpy, but at least she wasn’t complaining anymore.
Juliet stretched her arms. “Whew! That was easier than I thought. I really thought we’d run into some giant beast or something.”
Blaze smirked. “You mean like a three-headed lizard ready to eat us all?”
Juliet punched his arm. “Shut up.”
Su Jiyai smiled, seeing their interaction.
Suddenly, Juliet and Blaze’s bodies swayed.
“Eh? What is happening? I feel as if strength is leaving my body…” Juliet muttered.
“Me too,” Blaze murmured.
“Now that you both have mentioned…I, too, feel lightheaded.” Su Jiyai said.
Kars’s expression changed, and he looked at Mei with a stern expression,
“Did you poison them?”
“Yes,” Mei admitted with a giggle.
“Idiot! You should have waited till my signal!” Kars said with an irritated expression.
