Chapter 438: Chapter 438: Betrayal
Blaze was shocked to hear Kars’s words and asked,
“What do you mean?”
Kars glanced at Blaze, a thoughtful look appearing in his eyes, before he replied in a nonchalant voice,
“Exactly what you are thinking.”
Su Jiyai understood Kars’s reaction; he was assessing whether or not it was the right time to tell the truth, but when he thought of how Mei had already taken action, Kars decided to tell the truth anyway.
“You are betraying us? Kars, why are you doing this? We have been good brothers for more than 10 years!
We have helped each other out during the tough times, and now you suddenly want to betray us? Why? And why is Mei with you? Why did you two gang up on me, Ragnar and Juliet?”
Thud.
Blaze couldn’t hold himself and fell to the ground.
Juliet, on the other hand, wasn’t in a good condition either. Her injuries worsened due to poison, and she fell to the ground, too.
Su Jiyai leaned on the wall for support and said through gritted teeth,
“They want the money of this mission to be divided.”
Blaze glanced at Su Jiyai and asked,
“W…What are you talking about?”
Su Jiyai looked at Kars, who was staring back at her with an amused glint in his eyes,
“The reward for the mission must be more than you have imagined. Maybe it is in billions. As long as he doesn’t share the reward with you, Juliet, and me, the amount will remain an astronomical sum.
However, there must be something more to this story. Otherwise, they won’t want to kill you.”
“Kill us? Ragnar, what are you saying?” Blaze was stunned, and so was Juliet.
Then he thought of Night Vipers and asked,
“Are you referring to the Nigh Vipers we encountered earlier and thinking that he wants to kill three of us because he led us there? It was a mistake…”
“It was indeed a mistake, and even Kars never expected that there would be Night Vipers.” Su Jiyai interrupted him.
“Then…” Blaze looked at Su Jiyai with a puzzled expression.
“I am talking about the rockback we had encountered earlier. Your leader clearly had enough power to deal with it, and yet he acted clueless and scared.
He wanted you or me or Juliet dead, and hence, he pretended to be weak. However, I killed the rockback, and their plan was wasted.
When I was collecting herbs, Mei saw each herb, and yet she acted as if I was a quak, just so I don’t treat Juliet and let her die.
She was trying to drag time by arguing. Yet I treated Juliet and saved her. And their plan failed again.” Su Jiyai answered.
When Su Jiyai had shaken hands with Kars, she got a rough estimation of his power.
So, Kars’s pathetic attempt to look weak fell through.
Kars, who was silent till then, suddenly laughed,
“Ragnar…oh Ragnar…you are truly smart. I guess I shouldn’t have just looked at your strength back then. I regret involving you in this plan. If only we had met in a different situation, I would have recruited you instead of these weaklings.”

Toward the end, his tone was filled with disdain as he looked at Blaze and Juliet.
Mei walked up to Kars and hugged him,
“Kars…baby, why don’t you tell them why you kept them in the group and why you are killing them now?”
Kars understood Mei’s signal and said with a chuckle,
“You wanted to know the truth, right Blaze? Then I will tell you. At first, you displayed great potential, and I thought one day you would become as powerful as me.
Who would have thought that you would gradually lag behind and become average? I have been thinking of removing you from the group for a long time.
However, each time, Juliet stopped me and begged me to keep you. At first, I could tolerate you, but later, I felt disgusted and decided to finish off Juliet too.
It just so happened that I got a dangerous yet rewarding mission and decided to make use of you two. So I kept the loving brother image in front of everyone.”
Blaze’s eyes turned red, and he gritted his teeth. He wanted to fight back, but he couldn’t even move his finger.
“So why?… Why are you telling the truth now?” He asked, the sorrow in his tone raw.
“Because they want to let the poison take effect completely.” Su Jiyai answered before Kars and Mei could.
Kars laughed,
“Truly…you are so smart!”
Then he passed and asked with a curious expression,
“Since you know so much, you should know the remaining story too, right? I can give you a hint. The mission didn’t need 5 people at all.”
The gears in Su Jiyai’s mind turned before a self-mocking smile appeared on her face,
“So that’s what you were planning to do, huh?”
Kars walked up to Su Jiyai with amusement and asked,
“Have you figured everything out? Tell me what you know.”
Su Jiyai stared straight into Kars’s eyes and said,
“You are planning to kill Blaze and Juliet and blame it on me. No…you and Mei will take away all the crystals from the mine, leave Blaze and Juliet to die because of poison, and blame everything on me.
After all, how could a loving brother kill his own good brother? When the owner of this mine would come here, you would blame it on…a complete stranger.
The owner would think the crystals are with me…when in reality, you would have taken away everything. You will get not only the reward but the crystals as well.
And no one will doubt you because you had lost two members of your team.”
Kars clapped his hands slowly, a wide grin on his face.
“Bravo, Ragnar,” he said mockingly. “You really are too clever for your own good.”
Mei laughed beside Kars, flipping her hair proudly.
“That’s right. We’ll make you the villain. After all, who would believe a random guy like you?
We’ll tell everyone you betrayed the team, poisoned your teammates, and ran away with the crystals.”
Juliet coughed weakly and tried to sit up, but her body wouldn’t listen to her.
“You… you monsters…” she whispered.
Blaze’s fists clenched. Even if he couldn’t move, his heart burned with anger and pain.
“I trusted you, Kars… You were my brother…”
“Trust is just a tool,” Kars said coldly. “You were useful once. Now you’re not.”
He turned toward Su Jiyai and asked curiously,
“You know we are chatting because we want the poison to seep into your body, so why are you taking any action?”
Su Jiyai’s body trembled for a while before the color started to return to her face,
“Because you are stupid.”
A smile appeared on her face and then she stood up, as if she wasn’t poisoned at all.
The smile on Kars and Mei’s face vanished instantly, and they started at Su Jiyai in disbelief,
“You… you shouldn’t be able to move!” Mei shouted, taking a step back.
Kars narrowed his eyes. “What did you do?”
Su Jiyai stretched her neck and arms like she had just woken up from a nap.
Then she casually dusted off her clothes and smiled even wider.
“I pretended to be poisoned.”
Mei’s mouth dropped open.
“That’s impossible! I had poisoned the air! I and Kars had taken the antidote before, and hence we weren’t poisoned, but you…how can you remain unfazed?”
Su Jiyai gave them a smug look and slowly walked forward.
She tapped her forehead with her finger and said,
“Because I’m not dumb like you guys.”
Kars frowned. “What do you mean?”
Su Jiyai chuckled and replied,
“You think I would walk into this mission without preparing anything? I took my own antidote before coming here.”
Mei’s eyes widened.
“That’s not possible! I made this poison myself!”
“Well, your poison smells like burnt flowers,” Su Jiyai said, shrugging.
“The moment I smelled it, I knew something was off. So ate the herbs to counterattack the poison.”
Kars’s face turned dark. He clenched his fists and shouted,
“You little brat! You’ve been acting all along?!”
Su Jiyai just smiled and nodded like it was no big deal.
“Yup. I knew you guys were up to something. You and Mei are always whispering and giving weird looks. I might not be a genius, but I’m not blind either.”
Mei’s lips trembled in anger.
“You tricked us!”
Su Jiyai laughed and put her hands on her hips.
“No, you tricked yourselves. I just didn’t play along.”
Kars pulled out his blade and pointed it at her.
“Do you think just because you avoided the poison, you can fight me? Don’t forget—I’m stronger than you!”
Su Jiyai didn’t flinch. She calmly took a step forward and said,
“I don’t need to fight you to win. In fact if I were you, I would be running now.”
