Chapter 440: Chapter 440: Leticia
Su Jiyai froze.
“What?” she whispered.
[That girl crying for help… she’s your mission target. You have to save her.]
Blaze noticed the change in Su Jiyai’s expression. “What’s wrong?”
Juliet clutched her arm. “Don’t tell me… you’re thinking of going there?”
Su Jiyai didn’t answer right away.
Her eyes narrowed as she stared into the dark area ahead, where the voice had come from.
The Night Viper’s territory was deadly. One wrong move, and they’d all end up snake food.
[If you don’t save her within the next 10 minutes, the mission will be marked as failed. And the girl will die.]
Su Jiyai let out a sharp breath. “She’s real.”
“What?!” Juliet gasped.
“You’re kidding!” Blaze whispered, shaking his head.
Su Jiyai turned toward them. “Listen. I’ll go. You two stay here and don’t move, okay?”
“No way!” Juliet shouted. “You’re not going alone!”
“Yeah,” Blaze added, stepping forward. “We’re a team now, remember?”
Su Jiyai smiled a little.
“Thanks, but I’m faster. If I go alone, I can sneak in and out. If we all go, we might get spotted.”
Juliet stepped forward,
“Wait! I have the power to create illusion. I can help.”
Su Jiyai thought for a while before agreeing,
“Alright.”
Juliet took a deep breath and closed her eyes. A soft, purple glow surrounded her fingertips.
“Illusion field… activate,” she whispered.
Suddenly, a thin mist spread around them, blending their figures into the background. Even the trees and rocks seemed to shimmer.
“I can hide us from the Night Vipers’ eyes,” Juliet said, her face pale from using her power. “But it only lasts for five minutes.”
Su Jiyai gave her a quick nod. “Five minutes is enough.”
Blaze looked around nervously.
“I’ll stay here and watch your backs. If something comes, I’ll scream real loud.”
“Helpful,” Su Jiyai said with a grin.
With quick steps, Su Jiyai and Juliet moved toward the sound of the crying.

The mist covered them like a soft blanket, making their footsteps quieter.
The girl’s voice cried out again, “Please! Someone help me!”
“There!” Su Jiyai pointed.
A young girl was stuck on a tree. The branch she was clinging to was cracked and about to break. Below her, three Night Vipers circled like hungry sharks.
Juliet gasped. “We have to hurry!”
Su Jiyai nodded and whispered, “Create a distraction illusion over there,” pointing away from the girl.
Juliet’s hands glowed again.
Suddenly, a fake image of a deer appeared on the opposite side. It ran through the bushes with loud footsteps.
The Night Vipers turned at once, hissing and slithering toward the illusion.
“Now!” Su Jiyai dashed forward with lightning speed, leapt up the tree, and grabbed the girl just as the branch snapped.
The girl screamed, but Su Jiyai covered her mouth and whispered, “Shh. You’re safe now.”
Juliet ran over and helped steady Su Jiyai as she jumped down. Together, they started running back the way they came.
But suddenly—hisssss!
One of the Night Vipers turned around and spotted them.
Its mouth opened wide, showing long fangs dripping with green poison.
“Run!” Su Jiyai shouted.
They ran as fast as they could. The Viper crashed through the trees behind them, knocking down branches and bushes.
Just before it could reach them, Blaze threw a flash bomb from his pouch. BOOM!
A burst of bright light exploded behind them, and the snake hissed angrily, blinded.
“Go! Go!” Blaze yelled.
They didn’t stop running until they reached the safe zone, far from the Viper territory.
Su Jiyai gently set the girl down. She looked about ten years old, with messy hair and dirt on her face.
“T-Thank you,” she whispered, tears in her eyes. “I thought I was going to die.”
Su Jiyai patted her head. “You’re safe now.”
The girl had green hair and green eyes, and with her pale skin, she looked beautiful, like a doll.
Su Jiyai couldn’t help sigh. Such a cute girl.
Thinking how she has the second scroll containing the antidote of the zombie virus, the expression on Su Jiyai’s face softened.
“Where is your home, little girl?”
At the mention of her home, the little girl flinched and hugged her knees.
Seeing her reaction, Su Jiyai frowned. Juliet patted Su Jiyai’s shoulder and said softly,
“You move aside. She might not be comfortable talking with you.”
It was only then that Su Jiyai realized that she was disguised as a man.
Su Jiyai blinked. “Oh… right,” she muttered, stepping back.
Juliet gave her a small smile before kneeling down in front of the little girl.
“Hey, sweetie,” she said gently. “My name’s Juliet. What’s yours?”
The girl peeked up from her knees, her voice quiet like a whisper. “I’m Leticia…”
Juliet smiled warmly. “That’s a pretty name, Leticia. Do you want to tell me what happened? Why were you out there all alone?”
Leticia looked down again. Her small hands tightened around her arms. “I… I ran away.”
Juliet’s eyes softened. “From your home?”
Leticia nodded slowly.
“Were you hurt there?” Juliet asked carefully.
Leticia didn’t answer, but her eyes filled with tears.
Juliet gently pulled her into a hug. “It’s okay. You don’t have to talk about it now. You’re safe with us.”
Su Jiyai stood quietly nearby, her expression serious. She clenched her fists.
[So she ran away. That explains why she was in Night Viper territory.]
Blaze came over, rubbing the back of his neck. “Should we bring her with us? Or… I dunno, maybe there’s a shelter or something nearby?”
Juliet shook her head.
“She’s too scared to go back. And we don’t know what kind of place she escaped from.”
Su Jiyai stepped forward again, this time softening her voice.
“Leticia… would you like to come with us for now? We’ll take care of you. No one will hurt you.”
Leticia looked up, her big green eyes meeting Su Jiyai’s disguised face. She hesitated, then gave a tiny nod.
“Okay,” she whispered.
Su Jiyai gave her a small smile and patted her head lightly. “Good girl.”
[Mission Complete. Hidden Task Unlocked: Protect Leticia until she reveals the second scroll. Reward: 1 billion interstellar coins.]
Su Jiyai’s eyes brightened.
1 billion?
It was more than enough to get all the smart home appliances and maybe…maybe even a spacecraft!
As if sensing Su Jiyai’s thought process, the system said,
[Host, you can’t take away the spacecraft to your dimension.]
“Why?”
[Because the spacecraft is bound to this dimension’s energy system. If you try to take it out, it’ll explode.]
Su Jiyai’s mouth twitched. “What kind of dumb setting is that…”
[Blame the rules, not me,] the system said smugly.
Juliet looked over. “You talking to yourself again?”
Su Jiyai cleared her throat and smiled. “Nah. Just thinking about… stuff.”
Leticia stayed quiet but held onto Juliet’s sleeve tightly. Her tiny hand trembled a bit, like she was still scared the snakes might come back.
Su Jiyai crouched in front of her again, trying to look more friendly.
“Leticia, are you hungry?”
She nodded shyly.
Blaze reached into his backpack and pulled out a nutrition pill. “Here. It’s chocolate flavor.”
Leticia’s eyes lit up a little. “Thank you,” she whispered, taking it carefully like it was made of gold.
As they walked, Leticia quietly tugged on Juliet’s sleeve.
“Miss Juliet… who’s that?” she whispered, pointing at Su Jiyai.
Juliet glanced at Su Jiyai, then leaned closer to Leticia and whispered back,
“That’s our team leader. His name is Ragnar. He looks scary, but he’s actually nice.”
Su Jiyai’s ear twitched. “I can hear you, you know.”
Juliet laughed. “Oops.”
Leticia giggled too. For the first time, she actually smiled.
Su Jiyai turned her face away, hiding a small grin.
After a while, they reached a small hill with a good view.
No monsters in sight, just open grass and a gentle breeze.
“We’ll camp here for the night,” Su Jiyai said.
Blaze threw himself on the grass like a tired puppy. “Finally!”
Juliet sat Leticia down and handed her a bottle of water. “Here, drink slowly.”
Su Jiyai was about to sit down when the system popped up again.
[Reminder: Leticia will only reveal the second scroll when she feels truly safe and loved.]
Su Jiyai sighed. “So basically, be her mom now.”
[Basically, yes.]
She looked at Leticia, who was now drawing shapes in the dirt with her finger, humming quietly.
“Hey,” Su Jiyai said, walking over. “Want to learn how to make a mini fire?”
Leticia’s eyes widened. “Really?”
“Yeah. I’m pretty good at it.”
Leticia stood up quickly and nodded. “Okay!”
Juliet blinked. “Wow, she really likes you.”
Su Jiyai smiled. “Told you. I’m good with kids.”
And just like that, the night rolled in, and their little group sat around a tiny fire, sharing food and stories under the stars.
Leticia giggled again.
The next day.
Su Jiyai woke up and found that everyone was still sleeping.
She thought of the green crystals she had got from the cave and took them out.
