Chapter 447: Chapter 447: Hybrid Seeds

A hover-truck came speeding around the curve.

Leticia gasped, eyes wide, frozen like a deer.

The brakes screeched.

The truck swerved, but it was too close.

BANG!

Everything went dark.

—

Leticia opened her eyes slowly.

She was lying in a white hospital bed. There were tubes in her arms and beeping sounds around her.

Her head throbbed.

She blinked and sat up slowly.

A nurse rushed in. “Hey! Don’t move too fast. You hit your head pretty hard.”

Leticia stared at the nurse. Her lips parted.

“Where… am I?” she asked.

“You’re in Tartarus Central Hospital,” the nurse said kindly. “You were in an accident, but you’re stable now. You’ll be okay.”

Leticia frowned. “Hospital? Accident?”

She tried to remember something.

Anything.

Her name… Leticia. Yes, that was her name.

She remembered running away from her home and then going to the mountains.

But then, nothing.

No faces.

No voices.

Just… blank.

She clutched her chest suddenly, like something important had been taken away.

“I… I think I forgot something,” she whispered.

The nurse gave her a gentle smile. “It’ll come back. Don’t worry too much.”

Leticia looked out the window.

“Maybe…I was rescued by a kind-hearted person. Ah…I should just return home.”

………………….

Su Jiyai drove to Iris’s planet. After settling Blaze and Juliet, she met Iris and handed her the three herbs.

The third herb was acquired by her the previous night.

Iris’s eyes shone, and she nodded,

“Thank you so much. You can have the nanobot as long as you teach me martial arts.”

Su Jiyai nodded.

This was the original deal and the last task.

For the next one and a half months, Su Jiyai taught Iris martial arts and helped Blaze and Juliet open their guild.

With financial support, Blaze and Juliet successfully opened the guild.

Su Jiyai also used this time to learn Leticia’s notes.

She was studying virology and, for some reason, knew many of the medical concepts.

Though virology and agriculture were completely different fields of science, they mainly involved they mainly involved cells and life and how things grow or change.

Su Jiyai scratched her head as she flipped through Leticia’s notes. The words were hard, but she tried to understand them little by little.

“Okay… so this virus attacks the plant’s roots,” she muttered, pointing at a weird diagram with a red circle.

“But if we add this gene thingy from a cactus, then maybe it can survive without water?”

Su Jiyai stared at the cactus diagram and rubbed her chin.

“Okay… no water is one thing,” she mumbled, “but zombie-infected soil is even worse. It’s like poison for normal plants.”

She flipped a few more pages in Leticia’s notebook. There were notes about viruses attacking living cells, but some pages also talked about mutation and resistance.

“Hmm… if viruses can change, then maybe plants can too?”

She stood up and walked to Iris’s lab.

It was huge—shiny tables, glowing computers, and tons of weird machines. Iris was rich and didn’t mind sharing her tech.

Su Jiyai connected the notes to one of the smart screens.

“Let’s try something new. I’ll mix cactus DNA with virus-fighting genes from algae,” she said with a serious look.

One of the robot arms beeped and whirred as it prepared the samples.

She read about genetic engineering—changing the inside parts of a plant so it could survive anything.

“Genetic mutation… sounds scary, but it might work,” she said as she watched the samples spin inside a round machine.

Day by day, Su Jiyai tested things. She used zombie dirt from her world, different plant DNA, and different seeds.

Some plants grew a little, then died.

Some looked fine at first, then turned black.

She didn’t give up.

Iris came by one night and found her still working in the lab, her eyes half-shut and her hair messy.

“You should rest,” Iris said.

Su Jiyai yawned but shook her head. “I’m close. I can feel it.”

Then, on the 30th day… something amazing happened.

Inside one of the sealed pots, a little green leaf popped out. Then another.

It grew taller. And it didn’t rot. It didn’t turn black. It thrived in the zombie soil.

Su Jiyai gasped. “No way… it worked?!”

She scanned the plant with the lab scanner.

Hybrid Plant #1197—Water-free growth: Yes—Virus-resistant: Yes—Speed: Grows 2x faster

—Eatable: Yes—Lifespan: Long—Soil type: All, including infected

She almost dropped the scanner.

“I… I did it,” she whispered. Then she jumped up and cheered. “YES!!!”

Blaze and Juliet came running. “What happened?! Did something blow up?”

“No!” Su Jiyai waved her arms. “I made it! A hybrid seed that can grow even in zombie dirt!”

Juliet frowned. “What zombie dirt? Ragnar, are you alright? There is no such thing as a zombie.”

Su Jiyai suppressed her excitement and nodded,

“Yes. Yes. I am an idiot!”

Su Jiyai didn’t waste time.

She saved the formula, backed up the data in three places, and even printed a paper version.

She called it Project Hopeleaf.

“I’m gonna bring this back to my world,” she said with sparkles in her eyes.

“We’ll grow food again. Real food, even in the infected zones.”

Soon, it was time to leave the interstellar world.

Su Jiyai got the nanobot and used the remaining money to buy smart appliances as well as metals, books on how to make machines and robots.

However shopping spree wasn’t over.

She wanted to buy a spacecraft and could afford one, but the system told her that due to a different energy source, it couldn’t be taken.

So Su Jiyai bought the metals using which spacecrafts, cars, weapons and even flying bikes were made.

“I don’t need the ship. I’ll build my own one day,” she said with a grin, hugging the shiny metal boxes like treasure.

She also grabbed a bunch of robot arms, wires, batteries, and small engines. The store owner stared at her.

“Kid, are you opening a factory?”

Su Jiyai just laughed. “Maybe. One day.”

She packed everything neatly into her storage ring.

Even though it was small on the outside, it could hold a whole mountain inside.

After the system upgrade, the system space also increased.

Su Jiyai also bought the preseverance capsule.

With her shopping over and her bank account reaching almost zero, Su Jiyai decided to return.

Iris had learned martial arts, and Blaze and Juliet were operating their guild well.

So Su Jiyai found a secluded corner, opened a portal, and left the interstellar world.

Clack.

Su Jiyai fell to the ground and shivered.

Why was her world so cold?

As she looked around, the world was covered with a layer of white.

Snow?

What was happening?

Before Su Jiyai could understand, she was teleported to the underground room, and the system’s voice sounded,

[Host, I am going to upgrade myself. Once return, you can show your face to the world. There would be no problem.]

“How much time will this upgrade take?” Su Jiyai asked.

[2 weeks.]

Su Jiyai nodded.

2 weeks was acceptable.

A hint of excitement appeared in her heart. The mere thought of showing her true human form to Qin Feng excited her.

She could finally be with Qin Feng after 2 weeks.

Then she remembered how she had rushed Qin Feng to leave her to deserted place and didn’t give him an explanation.

“I need to explain everything.” Su Jiyai muttered.

However, before that, she needed to build a team. The team focused on growing vegetables.

With her hybrid seeds that can be grown even in the current soil and fertile soil in which hybrid seeds from other worlds could be grown, Su Jiyai decided it was time to build a team specializing in growing food and making farms!

She turned on the mic and called Yuan Xin.

Yuan Xin immediately appeared in the conference room and said in a voice filled with urgency,

“Thank god you have returned, Boss Su! There is a huge problem.”

“What is it?” Su Jiyai asked curiously.

“The leader of the Cedar Base was attacked by the zombies. The National Alliance made a decision and wants to completely eliminate all the zombies this time.

They have contacted you and asked if you are interested in taking part. They also asked you to meet them. They want to formally recognize your base.” Yuan Xin explained.

Su Jiyai raised an eyebrow.

National Alliance.

The one that helps all the base leaders in their alliance if their base was attacked by zombies.

Last time, when she confronted Narak, Su Jiyai realized that even if she mobilized all the people of the Hope, Rover, and Sufeng Base, she would still lose miserably.

It was purely because of the huge number of zombies.

If her base had over 100,000 people, then there are at least 100 million zombies out there. 90% of them are either evolved or are controlled by something stronger. Like zombie kings or those weird commanders.

Su Jiyai frowned. “If the national alliance really wants to wipe them all out… then maybe I should help.”
