Chapter 158: Shopping Spree, Big Spenders
“Mia, Olivia, how about we go shopping today? It’s too boring staying at home,” said Alex casually in the villa.
Mia and Olivia perked up, showing some interest.
But after exchanging a glance, they both shook their heads.
“There’s nothing fun outside, I don’t want to go,” Mia replied.
Alex walked over to them, smiling. “Mia, didn’t you say you wanted to see some clothes before? And Olivia, don’t you want to try some lipstick? You won’t know what looks good unless you try them in person, right?”
The two girls remained unmoved.
That’s when Alex got serious.
“Alright, I know you two are worried about the Spectrum Squad and afraid of dragging me down. But you need to recognize your own strength. The Spectrum Squad isn’t as formidable as you imagine.”
Mia chuckled. “You’re always so confident, Alex.”
Alex smiled faintly. “With enough strength, there’s no need to hide. Just confront them head-on.”
Right now, Alex was just waiting for an opportunity. After helping the Legion of Glory deal with the mutated plants, he would focus on dealing with the Spectrum Squad.
For now, let the Spectrum Squad be active. Firstly, it would take some time to gather intelligence. Secondly, they still didn’t fully understand the Legion of Glory; they couldn’t let them dominate unchecked.
“So, what do you say? Now that it’s come to this, aren’t you two planning to go?” Alex asked.
Mia and Olivia exclaimed together, “Who said we’re not going? Just wait for us to change clothes!”
The two girls went upstairs and changed into casual outfits. Even without heavy makeup, they still managed to stand out.
After coming downstairs, they linked arms with Alex.
“Let’s go,” they said.
Alex grinned. “Let’s go, then.”
Driving their armored vehicle, they left the villa community.
…
“Finally, they’ve decided to go out!”
Ronald put down his binoculars, exhaling deeply.
The Spectrum Squad had assembled an elite force, led by Ronald, to ambush outside the villa area.
Their mission: to kill Alex and avenge James.
After waiting for several days, Alex and his group finally made this trip out.
Ronald didn’t directly pursue them with all his hidden members. Instead, they waited until Alex and his team had gone a distance before coming out and following in their own vehicles.
The Spectrum Squad had numerous surveillance personnel; it was improbable that only a few were monitoring the villa area’s entrance.
Ronald took out a walkie-talkie.
“Number Two, Number Two, do you copy?”
“Number Two here, copy that.”

“Alex has left in a car. Did they pass your position?”
“They’ve already passed. Heading towards the city center commercial street.”
“Roger that.”
Ronald put back the walkie-talkie and told the driver, “Step on it. Alex has passed the second surveillance point; we can’t afford to lag too far behind.”
The driver nodded and put on his sunglasses.
“Captain, brace yourself,” he said.
Ronald was puzzled. “What for?”
The driver didn’t reply. He simply floored the gas pedal, and the car’s RPM shot up to over six thousand.
Then, he swiftly shifted gears, with a seamless rhythm of clutch and throttle.
As the RPM dropped, the speed reached the engine’s roaring limit.
“Holy crap!”
Ronald barely managed to hold on.
That damn G-force.
But he had to admit, this old driver had some serious skills.
He must have been reckless in his driving before.
Finally, they arrived at their destination.
The members of the Spectrum Squad got off the bus and first relieved themselves beside the flowerbed.
Then they wiped their mouths and began to move.
…
At that moment, Alex and his group had just parked their car and entered the shopping center.
This was a place they hadn’t visited during their last trip to the commercial street.
It felt like stepping back into the old world.
Everywhere they looked, there were all kinds of clothes and items, reminiscent of the old general store.
Mia walked up to a shop, picked up a piece of jewelry, and compared it to her wrist, feeling delighted.
“Hey there, lovely lady, how about my merchandise? It’s very cheap, let your boyfriend buy it for you, buy one get one free,” the shopkeeper said with a smile.
Mia asked, “How much?”
The shopkeeper, with half-white hair, held up two fingers.
Alex frowned slightly.
This bracelet was asking for two S-alloys, which seemed too expensive. Two S-alloys could exchange for a lot of things.
Mia put down the bracelet, shaking her head.
“Too expensive…”
Alex, standing nearby, said directly, “How about just one S-alloy, boss? I’ll buy more things from you, and you can give me a discount!”
The shopkeeper was momentarily stunned.
“One S-alloy? This bracelet only costs two pounds of cornmeal! Who uses S-alloys as a unit of measurement? ”
Nowadays, survivors mainly traded with daily necessities. Most people understood what the two fingers of the shopkeeper meant.
However, Alex and his group had always used S-alloys to purchase high-end goods. They hadn’t grasped the concept of using ordinary daily goods for transactions.
Hearing the explanation from the shopkeeper, Alex chuckled and let Mia choose again.
“Mia, since it’s so cheap, pick a few more pieces of jewelry you like.”
Mia put on the bracelet she had chosen earlier, shook it, and said satisfiedly, “No need, just this one. Boss, here’s two pounds of cornmeal for you.”
“Alrighty!” The shopkeeper grinned.
Seeing that Alex and his group seemed to be newcomers to the shopping center, he curiously asked, “Are you survivors from City 22?”
Alex glanced at him, found nothing suspicious, and nodded.
“Yes, how did you know, boss?”
The shopkeeper chuckled self-satisfiedly. “It’s not difficult. Local survivors are very familiar with the trading materials in the shopping center. Only outsiders would cause confusion.”
“However, since you’re here, from now on, everyone will be residents of City 25.”
Alex and his group suddenly realized.
Just now, they even almost went into alert mode, thinking that the shopkeeper was arranged by the Spectrum Squad.
The shopkeeper continued, “If you still want to buy some precious luxury goods from the old world, you can go to the third floor. It’s like the specialty stores from the old world.”
“But not many people go there.”
“After all, nobody cares about those things now. Who would waste resources buying those useless things…”
The luxury goods in the shopping center had not changed their target customers.
In the old world, it served the wealthy people who had too much money to spend. In the post-apocalyptic world, it served the survivors who had too much material wealth.
The shopkeeper was quite insightful, knowing that Alex and his group definitely weren’t short of supplies.
You could tell from their conversation and their attire.
Not because Alex and his group were dressed extravagantly.
But because they were clean!
In the post-apocalyptic world, anyone who could wear clean clothes had enough water resources to spare.
Plus, their surprise at the bracelet’s price revealed they were affluent.
Bang!
Just then, the shopkeeper’s head was suddenly pierced, and blood even splattered onto the white T-shirt worn by Alex…
