Chapter 162: Deputy Camp Leader Picking Faults
Skylar hurriedly said, “It’s my fault for being suspicious. You shouldn’t take offense, Alex.”
Alex laughed heartily, “Don’t worry, Skylar, I won’t slack off over such a trivial matter.”
“Besides, it’s only natural for you to look out for your team.”
“If I were in your position, I would do the same.”
Skylar, upon hearing this, exclaimed in agreement.
“Alex, your words really resonate with me! Though we haven’t known each other long, I feel like we’re a perfect fit!”
Alex smiled.
I’ve been using the same old sales pitch from the old world on you, saying whatever pleases you. Can you blame me for catering to your taste?
Alex patted Skylar’s shoulder and said, “Skylar, what I need is an ally, not adversaries. I also like you and hope we can continue to cooperate.”
Skylar blinked.
“Well, too bad I’m not into men, or else I would…”
Alex smiled slightly, “What I meant was, I like your character.”
He resisted the urge to kick Skylar out of the car.
But then he remembered it was Skylar’s car, so he held back.
Skylar was quite straightforward.
But as an ally, he was the most suitable choice.
“I see…”
Skylar actually looked a bit disappointed.
Alex’s right eyelid twitched.
You, a six-foot-tall man, making such a slightly shy disappointed expression, what’s going on?
Alex wasn’t afraid when facing the zombie tide.
He wasn’t afraid when facing Mia and Olivia’s relentless pressure.
But seeing Skylar like this sent a chill down his spine.
Next, the two fell silent.
Alex looked out of the car window, enjoying the scenery along the way.
The zombies in the East City District had been cleared out, divided between the Legion of Glory and the Spectrum Squad.
Alex had known this beforehand.
However, when he slowly saw the Legion of Glory’s stronghold, he was somewhat shocked.
Automated defense systems, high-intensity walls, electric fences…
Alex couldn’t help but compare them in his mind with the defenses of his own villa.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
The result was that his own home was slightly better.
After all, there were powerful resources like energy shields and combat robots.
But that’s not to say the Legion of Glory’s defenses were lacking.
On the contrary, Alex believed they were just slightly inferior to his own.
Such defense equipment could be considered top-notch in any city.
Alex then thought about the Spectrum Squad.
Being on par with the Legion of Glory meant their defenses couldn’t be lacking either.
“Alex, we’ve arrived at the Legion of Glory.”
The two got out of the car together.
Alex noticed the golden letters hanging on the gate of the Legion of Glory and felt a bit dazed when he saw the two guards on duty beside it.
“Good day, Captain!”
The two guards saluted crisply.
Their voices were loud and uniform.
But Skylar suddenly kicked one of the soldiers without any kindness and said impatiently, “Didn’t I tell you? If you need to use the restroom, just go. Don’t stick to the rules. One person on duty is enough.”
“Your face is turning pale from holding it in. In such a state, if we were to encounter an enemy attack, you’d be urinating while running!”
The embarrassed soldier blushed.
“Yes! I’ll be right back!”
Then, he hurried off to the restroom.
Skylar led Alex into the Legion of Glory, smiling as he said, “Alex, don’t mind that.”
Alex looked at the militarized management of the Legion of Glory and couldn’t help but nod.
Every soldier here was undergoing training, very professional.
Compared to any team he had seen before, they were in a completely different league.
The team-building of the Legion of Glory was more like what Alex imagined a large-scale survival team in the post-apocalyptic world should be.
Strict discipline, team-oriented, mutual respect and care between superiors and subordinates.
Hearing Skylar’s words, Alex smiled.
“How could that be? I actually think you’re a good leader who treats your soldiers like your own children, very caring for your subordinates.”
Skylar laughed heartily.
Being praised by Alex made him quite happy and content.
After laughing, he sighed and said, “I used to be a soldier in the old world. Coming to the post-apocalyptic world, gathering my former subordinates, and training a new batch of recruits, I can feel the hardships of the past.”
“For these kids, I treat them like my own little brothers, so I have to demand strict standards.”
Alex nodded.
He didn’t expect Skylar to say such sentimental words.
Just as he was about to speak, they were interrupted by a commotion ahead.
“Let me through!”
“Deputy Camp Leader, you can’t. The captain is receiving guests. Let us wait in the conference room.”
“Get lost! The so-called guest I’m looking for is! Isn’t it Alex? As the deputy battalion commander, don’t I still know who he is?”
A short-haired, muscular man was being blocked by two soldiers, engaging in a heated argument.
It wasn’t until he saw Skylar and Alex that he stopped.
Skylar’s face turned dark, and he cursed, “Ryan, get your ass over here!”
This short-haired man was the deputy camp leader of the Legion of Glory.
He is also Skylar’s trusted right-hand man, Ryan.
Ryan walked over and said to Skylar, “Good day, Captain.”
Skylar’s face remained dark.
“What were you shouting about just now? Say it again!”
He was genuinely embarrassed.
His deputy was arguing in front of Alex, and the content seemed to vaguely involve Alex.
Ryan also spoke directly, “Captain, don’t let this Alex deceive you! The information about him being able to clear mutant plants came from a real estate developer, but we haven’t seen it for ourselves. What if he’s a fraud?”
Alex chuckled.
In all his years, this was the first time someone had called him a fraud.
Even though he had misled quite a few nouveau riche during his sales days, was that really fraud? No, it was called stimulating economic growth.
Alex watched the Legion of Glory’s deputy camp leader with interest, not saying a word.
He wanted to see how Skylar would handle this situation.
Skylar cursed, “What are you saying? Apologize to Mr. Alex right now!”
Ryan shook his head, snorting very disdainfully.
“Captain, I don’t know what kind of spell Alex has cast on you, but he’s clearly stalling because he’s afraid of being exposed!”
Skylar was about to say something but was interrupted by Alex.
“Skylar, I’m here to clear the mutant plants, that’s all you need to know.”
Ryan laughed heartily.
“At this point, you still want to deceive and cheat? Do you think we in the Legion of Glory are fools with too much money? Let me tell you, if you can’t clear the mutant plants, what do you plan to do?”
“Ryan!”
Skylar was truly angry now.
If he truly angered Alex and drove him away, where would he find another survivor capable of clearing mutant plants?
Alex wasn’t angry, just a bit indifferent.
“Deputy Camp Leader Ryan, if I can clear the mutant plants, what will you do then?”
Ryan chuckled.
“If you really can clear the mutant plants, Alex, then I’ll let you handle it however you see fit!”
Alex was somewhat surprised. He glanced at Skylar and couldn’t help but blurt out, “Skylar, is there something wrong with this deputy camp leader of yours?”
Alex pointed at his head.
