Chapter 40: Ambitious Frank
Every night, Frank would lie awake, seething with resentment over these matters.
Especially Alex.
Before, he never even considered this loser.
Because they were never of the same class.
Living in the same dormitory was their only intersection in life.
But now, this Alex, after coming to the end-of-days world, could actually afford the sky-high barricades!
And he could live so comfortably, with electricity and a villa, without any worries about food or drink.
In contrast, Frank found himself relying on exchanges of supplies between Olivia and Alex for sustenance.
What am I? A beggar?!
Frank couldn’t accept this reality.
Someday, I will mold you, Olivia, into my plaything.
And Alex, I’ll dry you out and feed you to the zombies!
These were Frank’s innermost thoughts.
But he had no chance to realize them.
Until one day, he saw a survivor boasting on the chat channel, and the boasting sounded very familiar.
The more he read, the more it resembled things he had done before.
So, he privately messaged that survivor.
Only to find out that the survivor was his former subordinate, Henry.
Henry was also excitedly messaging back: “Boss, I never thought you would also come to this end-of-days world! This is really unexpected! Where are you, boss? I’ll come find you right away!”
Frank was also somewhat surprised.
In the end-of-days world, Henry still remained fiercely loyal to him.
This greatly satisfied his vanity.
“Henry, I have food and drink here. Hurry over, and I’ll pull you into my team. We’ll share our positions. When we expand the team, there will definitely be benefits for you.”
Henry quickly accepted Frank’s team invitation.
Looking at the distance between their coordinates, it was neither too close nor too far.
It would take some time to get there.
Henry messaged, “It’s a bit far, but don’t worry, boss, I’ll come right over. Just wait patiently for me for two days, I’m setting off now!!”
Frank closed the chat window.
In his mind, he already envisioned a bright future.
Once Henry arrived, he would immediately recruit more people and continuously expand.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
Soon, he would be on par with the sheriff.
By then, not to mention the sheriff, even Alex wouldn’t matter to him!
By then, wouldn’t Olivia be his possession?
Frank looked towards Olivia, who was resting not far away, feeling a surge of heat in his heart.
He quietly approached and gazed at Olivia’s captivating face as she slept.
Even wearing special forces combat gear couldn’t hide her great figure.
He involuntarily reached out, wanting to stroke Olivia’s cheek.
But just then, Olivia suddenly woke up from her slumber.
Opening her eyes, she immediately grabbed Frank’s hand.
Frank was taken aback.
Then, he plastered what he believed to be a friendly and sunny smile and said, “Olivia, you’re awake? Why not sleep a little longer?”
Olivia sat up, smiling slightly, but subtly moved Frank’s hand away.
“I couldn’t sleep, I’m always worried about danger.”
Frank didn’t think much of it and continued, “Olivia, don’t worry, if there’s any danger, I’ll stand in front of you.”
Olivia looked meaningfully at Frank and then smiled, “Thank you, Frank.”
Frank heard this and was very happy.
In his heart, he thought, this bitch finally realizes that I’m the most reliable!
Olivia continued, “Our supplies are running low, I need to find Alex again to buy some food and water.”
Frank heard this, lowered his head, and fell silent.
Breathing heavily, feeling a bit dizzy.
In the end, he couldn’t hold it in.
He shouted angrily, “Alex… Alex, it’s always Alex! What’s so great about Alex?! He’s just a loser! A poor bastard!”
“When it was your birthday, what did he give you? Handmade crafts, trinkets bought from the roadside. Can they compare to what I gave you?! Now he’s just living a little better in this end-of-days world, but when I form my team and expand, I’ll make him kneel before me!”
Olivia was startled by Frank’s sudden outburst and silently stepped back, keeping a safe distance from him.
“Frank, you’re being paranoid. Alex is our college classmate and your former roommate. Now that Alex can help us, we should be grateful, not repay kindness with resentment.”
Frank laughed heartily, with a scornful expression.
“Roommate? I never considered Alex my roommate. Living with him for those two years, I felt dirty!”
“He’s just a lowlife, a worm. Would I treat him as my friend?”
“Luckily, he obediently packed up and moved out to live off-campus in his sophomore year, otherwise, I would have found the counselor and kicked him out sooner or later.”
Olivia looked puzzled.
This was the first time she had heard about the deep-seated animosity between Frank and Alex.
No wonder Alex had warned her to be cautious around Frank.
She had always thought Frank’s dismissive attitude was just his usual demeanor, making Alex uncomfortable.
She hadn’t realized Frank had such opinions of Alex in private.
Presumably, Alex had been isolated in the dormitory before.
Olivia felt inexplicably angry and said, “Alex is my good friend, I won’t allow you to speak of him like that!”
“A person’s background may not change, but Alex has continuously rooted himself in the big city through his own efforts. He even managed to make a down payment for a house in just two years. In my eyes, he’s very outstanding!”
Seeing Olivia still speaking up for Alex, Frank’s eyes reddened even more.
He grabbed Olivia’s shoulder aggressively and said fiercely, “Good friend? I bet you like him, don’t you? You didn’t accept anyone in four years of college, was it because of this guy?!”
“I knew it, why do you always show up at gatherings where Alex is present, but I can never get you to come otherwise?!”
The more Frank spoke, the more agitated he became, veins bulging on his forehead.
“Wait and see, just wait and see, one day I’ll kill Alex! I, Frank, always keep my word, I’ll kill him!!!”
Olivia felt pain from being gripped on her shoulder. She took out a military dagger from her backpack and held it in front of her.
“Frank, don’t push me.”
Feeling the chilling glare of the dagger, Frank shuddered and calmed down.
Releasing his grip, he explained, “Olivia, that’s not what I meant, I just got a bit excited, forgive me, okay?”
But Olivia’s face remained cold as she said, “I’ll pretend I didn’t hear what you said just now. I hope you can control your emotions in the future.”
“Now, I’m going out to gather supplies.”
Frank quickly said, “Olivia, I’ll go with you. It’s not safe for you to go alone.”
But Olivia didn’t even look back.
“No need, you rest well. I’m just collecting supplies nearby. There won’t be any danger.”
Then, she walked straight out of the shabby house where they lived.
