Chapter 49: The direction to a mining site
Amidst the prevailing unease, even Olivia came to Alex again to purchase weapons.
“Alex, you heard about the sheriff killing the first mutated zombie creature, right?” Olivia quickly messaged.
“Of course, I know. The chat channels were buzzing about it. How could I not know?” Alex promptly replied.
Olivia then sent a string of messages.
“Today we encountered a horde of zombies, and Frank just ditched me and ran. Thankfully, you sold me a lot of combat supplies before. Otherwise, I might have been done for today.”
Alex narrowed his eyes slightly.
It was irritating to see the other party still unscathed and alive.
But then again, their selfish nature hadn’t changed, which wasn’t surprising.
“Why keep someone like that around? Just use the weapons I gave you and take him out!” Alex suggested.
Olivia sounded somewhat helpless.
“Frank has always been cautious, and I’m not good at fighting. It might not be that easy.”
“But he’s been wanting to join some big teams lately, so it’s a good time for us to part ways,” Olivia added.
Alex narrowed his eyes slightly.
After all these days, his strength had developed significantly.
It was time to deal with Frank.
“When do you think Frank will find a new group? Let me know, I’ll send him a nice ‘gift,'” Alex instructed.
Soon, Alex received a reply.
“It should be in the next few days. He’s been urging me to join other teams lately, especially after seeing the Police Station kill the mutated creature today. He can’t hide his thoughts anymore.”
Alex pondered for a moment.
The most important thing now was to obtain the antivirus serum.
It should be safe to wait a few more days without any major incidents.
“By the way, do you need any more combat supplies? You probably used up quite a bit escaping from the zombie horde today, right?” Alex asked.
Olivia sent a nodding emoji.
“I was actually thinking of buying some from you. Just some Molotov cocktails, crossbow bolts, and another critical hit katana,” Olivia replied.
Alex opened the trade window and put up the items for sale.
After completing the transaction, Alex ended the conversation with Olivia and returned to the villa area.
He went out to test the power of the critical hit katana, then hung out on the trading platform, unintentionally staying out in the wilderness until noon.
Upon returning to the shelter, as soon as Alex walked in, he saw Mia sitting on the living room sofa watching TV.
The TV was connected to a hard drive, playing shows like Animal World.
Alex was somewhat surprised.

After all, the TV hadn’t been working before.
Unexpectedly, Mia had fixed it.
Watching TV in such an environment was indeed very comfortable, occasionally bringing back some nostalgic feelings.
“How did you manage to turn on the TV? I struggled with it for ages and couldn’t get it to work,” Alex asked.
Mia hugged Alex’s arm and smiled, “It was just a faulty circuit board, nothing major. I tried to fix it and it worked.”
“Amazing!” Alex gave her a thumbs up. “But how did you learn to fix a TV?”
Repairing electronics is quite a specialized skill, not something everyone can master.
Mia shrugged nonchalantly. “I’ve seen others fix it a few times, so I picked up some tricks.”
“It was also lucky that the problem wasn’t too complicated; otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to fix it,” she added.
Next, the two of them cuddled up on the sofa, watching TV and eating fries.
In that moment, it felt like the experiences of the past few days were just a dream.
But just then, they heard knocking on the door from upstairs.
“Hey! Is anyone there? I’m hungry!” Emma yelled loudly.
They almost forgot about her.
Alex glanced upstairs and asked, “Is she behaving herself? Has she caused any trouble?”
“She did try to escape once,” Mia shook her head, not taking it too seriously. “But with me keeping an eye on her, she didn’t succeed.”
“Well, she’s certainly not honest,” Alex remarked with a wry smile. “Let’s teach her a lesson by letting her go hungry for a while.”
After that, the two of them continued watching TV as if they hadn’t heard Emma’s cries for help.
It wasn’t until she got tired of shouting that they sent up a bottle of water and a packet of instant noodles.
After finishing his meal, Alex left the villa and headed towards a nearby mine.
According to Emma’s intelligence, there was a golden-level supply crate there.
At this point, any item of golden-level quality was extremely valuable to Alex.
So, he wasted no time and set off immediately.
Upon arriving at the outskirts of the mine, looking at the dark entrance, Alex remembered Emma’s warning before they departed.
“Alex, don’t blame me for not reminding you. The outskirts of this mine aren’t the most dangerous. With your strength, you could probably handle them easily. The most perilous part is inside the mine. I only know that there are many zombies inside, and, according to some lucky survivors who managed to escape, there are giant spiders in there.”
“No one believed it at the time, but now, thinking back, they were probably mutated creatures.”
After hearing this, Alex nodded solemnly.
After all, mutated creatures weren’t something to be taken lightly.
Alex sprang into action.
Drawing his critical hit katana, his movements agile, he swiftly maneuvered behind the zombies and decapitated them.
In just a few breaths, he had cleared the zombies outside the mine as if they were cutting vegetables.
Shaking off the black blood staining his katana, Alex stood at the entrance of the mine.
He couldn’t see what was inside, but he could faintly hear the groans of zombies and the eerie howling of the wind blowing through the mine, making a haunting sound.
Alex had already made up his mind that if things didn’t seem right once he entered, he wouldn’t hesitate to retreat immediately.
Golden supplies could be collected later, but he only had one life.
Taking a moment to adjust his breathing, Alex proceeded into the mine.
It was very dark inside, and he could only rely on the flashlight on his head to see the path ahead.
Every five or six meters into the mine, Alex would carve a notch into the stone wall and place a torch burning with gasoline.
Because of this task, he didn’t move quickly.
