Chapter 50: Mutant Spiders
He slowly approached the depths and also saw zombies and some human remains.
Presumably, these dead people were the survivors who had come to explore before.
If he couldn’t escape from here, there would only be one dead end.
A few zombies were attracted by the flashlight on Alex’s head and began to rush over.
Alex took a few steps back, creating space, and fiercely threw a few Molotov cocktails.
Instantly, the intense flames blocked the zombies.
However, these zombies didn’t seem as afraid of fire as before.
Many of them, still engulfed in flames, continued to charge forward recklessly.
Alex didn’t use his pistol.
The mine was too dark, and Alex wasn’t confident he could aim for the zombies’ heads.
So, he chose to draw his critical hit katana.
With a katana in each hand, he went straight for the zombies.
Alex didn’t know how to use a katana, let alone two.
It was just that his physical prowess overwhelmed the zombies in terms of strength.
Swinging the two katanas wildly, he was incredibly fast, cutting the zombies down in a chaotic manner.
When the last zombie fell, Alex took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.
Relying on the two critical hit katanas, Alex continued deeper into the mine, unstoppable.
It had to be said that having katanas in a critical hit state was like wielding divine weapons in the confines of the mine.
Roar! Alex pulled his katana out of the last zombie’s head, and the entire mine returned to silence.
However, he didn’t find the golden-level supply crate that Emma had mentioned.
Something was wrong.
Alex frowned.
Could Emma’s intelligence be wrong? Or perhaps someone had already beaten him to it? But considering the zombies he had just encountered, such assumptions were unfounded.
Just then, a strand of silk unexpectedly stuck to Alex, pulling him inside.
The force was so great that even he almost lost his balance and fell.
In the darkness, the long strand of silk firmly bound Alex’s left hand.
While Alex was busy killing zombies, he hadn’t noticed this spider lurking in the darkness.
It only struck when he let his guard down.
Crafty!
Alex cursed inwardly and quickly freed himself.

Without hesitation, he took out a torch and burned the silk.
By the light of the torch on the ground and the flashlight on his head, Alex could see the rumored giant spider clearly.
The massive spider perched on the ceiling of the mine, emitting a purple luminescence all over its body. Its beautiful compound eyes, resembling those of a green grandmother, observed Alex intently.
With legs thicker than usual spiders and extending far beyond the length of a regular one, it gradually stretched out, occupying the entire top of the mine.
Facing such a colossal mutant zombie spider, Alex felt uneasy.
After all, the first mutated creature hunted by the sheriff and his team had required the entire group to succeed.
Only they knew how difficult the process had been.
Now, Alex was alone against this mutant spider.
It was clearly a daunting challenge.
Alex wanted to quietly retreat and leave the mine.
Since he hadn’t found the golden-level supply crate he was looking for, there was no need to risk imminent death fighting this giant spider to the end.
“Big spider, you can play by yourself. I have to go home and be with my wife! But, being a single spider like you, you probably wouldn’t understand…” Alex joked as he gingerly backed away.
Hiss! Hiss!!
The mutated zombie spider let out a few sharp hisses, then shot out an enormous amount of silk.
Alex instinctively rolled to the side, dodging the silk, cursing under his breath.
“You gotta be kidding me, buddy. I was just kidding around. If I offended you, I apologize!”
It was then that Alex realized the silk wasn’t aimed at him but at his retreat.
By the time he realized this issue, the entrance had already been sealed off.
Alex furrowed his brow.
He hadn’t expected this level of intelligence from such a mutated zombie creature.
He had thought they were no different from the mindless zombies that only acted on instinct.
Now, he had to admit that mutated zombie creatures possessed a certain level of intelligence.
With his retreat blocked, Alex stood up, drew his pistol, and aimed at the mutant spider’s head.
Bang! A shot rang out.
The spider’s beautiful gem-like compound eyes, emitting a faint glow, were shattered by Alex’s shot, bursting with foul-smelling, dark blood.
The mutant spider let out a miserable cry and then used its spider legs to shield its eyes.
Seeing the first gunshot take effect, Alex naturally wouldn’t miss any opportunity, firing shot after shot in rapid succession.
However, each shot was blocked by the spider’s spider legs.
The shell of the mutant spider was very tough, and although the bullets Alex fired afterward hit the spider’s legs and abdomen, they only hung precariously on the outer layer, not even completely penetrating the spider, leaving behind only bullet holes.
Alex didn’t have time to be surprised.
Because when his pistol ran out of bullets and needed reloading, the spider seized the opportunity to jump directly from the top of the mine and dive down.
Alex holstered his pistol and drew his critical hit katana.
The mutant spider swung its eight spider legs towards him.
Alex quickly made a blocking motion.
If he hadn’t temporarily reached the peak of enhanced physical fitness, he wouldn’t have been able to block it.
Although the mutant spider was huge, its eight spider legs were extremely agile.
And they had immense destructive power.
Alex dodged one spider leg that was lunging towards him, and the stone wall behind him was cut open like tofu with a thud.
Alex threw a Molotov cocktail, igniting the spider web that sealed the entrance.
But because the spider web was too large, the Molotov cocktail exploded, only slowly burning.
Earlier, when Alex’s left hand was entangled in spider silk, he had already discovered that the spider silk of this mutant spider had also mutated and was not very afraid of fire.
He had desperately rubbed the torch to finally break free from the spider silk at the last moment.
It seemed that it would take some time to burn open a passage to leave.
And during this time, he could only use all his tricks to find a way to hold off the mutant spider.
