Chapter 51: Insecticide Comes to the Rescue!
During this process, Alex continuously used his agile body to dodge, occasionally stabbing his katana into the relatively soft abdomen of the mutant spider.
The pain made the mutant spider even more agitated.
Unlike ordinary creatures, which gradually weaken under increasing attacks, this mutant spider seemed to be stimulated to launch more ferocious attacks.
Alex pursed his lips.
He thought to himself, isn’t this just like those bosses in the games who go berserk?
Just when you think you’re about to succeed, the boss calmly enters its second phase and sends the player straight back to the respawn point.
But if I die here, there’s no respawn point.
Alex chuckled wryly, realizing he had to stay fully focused to dodge the mutant spider’s attacks.
Hiss! The mutant spider shot out spider silk, attempting to restrict Alex’s movements.
Alex acted decisively and immediately threw two Molotov cocktails.
Then, taking advantage of the opportunity, he slid under the mutant spider and used his critical hit katana to make a gash in its abdomen.
Alex grinned and said, “Good thing you’re not a mutant tiger, or I’d have taken you down with that slide tackle.”
He wasn’t really fond of making jokes; it was just a way to relieve the pressure in such a highly tense situation, even if it was talking to himself.
The mutant spider gradually turned red-eyed.
This was true red-eyed rage.
Its originally greenish compound eyes gradually turned red.
Alex clearly felt a significant change in the mutant spider’s momentum.
At this moment, the mutant spider exuded an indescribable aura that made Alex feel uncomfortable.
Perhaps, this was the wildness inherent in mutant creatures.
Just then, Alex had a sudden idea.
Since it was a spider, could insecticide be used to deal with it? During this time, there happened to be a day when unlimited insecticide was distributed among the daily supplies.
Two bottles of insecticide were thrown out.
The mutant spider lightly scratched the bottles with its spider legs, tearing open the fragile metal packaging of the insecticide.
Bang! In an instant, the liquid inside the two bottles of insecticide exploded.
The mutant spider smelled the insecticide and actually moved aside.
Huh? It actually worked!
Although Alex was speechless at this absurd turn of events, he wouldn’t miss the opportunity.
He immediately took out more insecticide and sprayed it inside the sealed mine.
The mutant spider continued to wave its spider legs in place, then charged towards Alex.
Naturally, Alex didn’t give the mutant spider a chance to get close. Taking advantage of his agility, he enacted a scene reminiscent of an eagle catching a chick with the spider as the prey.

As the mutant spider chased him, Alex donned his mask and continued spraying insecticide, one bottle after another, circling around the mine.
Alex began to doubt whether the insecticide was effective. Perhaps, the mutant spider’s avoidance was just a subconscious action driven by its survival instincts.
But soon enough, the insecticide took effect.
The mutant spider suddenly stopped chasing Alex and stood in place, swaying.
It was like a drunken man, trying to stand up and shouting, “I’m not drunk!”
Even a mutant zombie spider couldn’t escape the prolonged inhalation of insecticide spray.
The frenzy on the mutant spider began to fade away, its red compound eyes gradually turning back to green, and its momentum becoming feeble.
However, Alex didn’t dare to relax.
After all, this was insecticide!
During the previous barrage, he had almost sprayed the entire mine with insecticide.
Even wearing a mask, he felt uncomfortable.
And yet, the mutant spider, which was already inhibited, only felt a bit dizzy.
This made Alex not dare to let his guard down.
Strike while the iron is hot!
Alex immediately drew his critical hit katana and charged forward.
As he approached, the mutant spider suddenly sprang up one of its spider legs, attempting to attack Alex.
Just as Alex had been on guard against the possibility of a counterattack, he wasn’t startled by the sudden assault.
Seizing the opportunity, he swung his katana at the joint of the spider leg extended by the mutant spider.
The spider leg was cleanly severed.
The mutant spider screamed in agony, extending its other spider legs and swinging them wildly.
However, due to the dizziness caused by the insecticide and its already injured body, its mobility was greatly reduced.
Attacks that Alex had to exert all his effort to barely dodge before now became easily avoidable.
One slash!
Alex once again severed a spider leg.
Another slash!
Alex gouged out one of the mutant spider’s compound eyes.
“Slash after slash!”
Alex hacked off the mutant spider’s head and gutted it.
In this battle, Alex unexpectedly emerged victorious.
He had thought that as long as he managed to burn through the spider web blocking the mine entrance, he could slip away unscathed.
To survive was like stumbling upon a stroke of luck.
Never did he imagine that all alone, he would hunt down this mutant zombie spider.
Alex, feeling uneasy, continued to deliver a few more strikes.
Only after severing all the spider legs did he sit down on the ground, finally able to rest.
This battle was more perilous than any he had experienced before.
Although he successfully killed the mutant spider in the end, witnessing the true power of mutated creatures weighed heavily on Alex’s heart.
It seemed that, as many survivors had said, surviving in this apocalypse would only get harder.
It was imaginable that before long, another large group of survivors would likely be wiped out.
The spider silk sealing the mine exit had just been burnt open, leaving enough space to escape.
As Alex stood up, he was drawn to the glow emanating from the mutant spider’s abdomen.
Using his critical strike katana, he pried open the spider’s belly and discovered a golden-tier loot box emitting a golden light.
Emma’s intelligence was accurate; there indeed was a golden-tier loot box here.
It’s just that it had been swallowed by the mutant spider at some point.
Alex immediately stowed the loot box into his backpack without checking it, eager to leave the mine.
Feeling the warmth of the sunlight, he savored the joy of surviving against all odds.
“Home,”
Alex smiled.
Then, driving his beat-up car, he sang loudly all the way out of the minefield.
