Chapter 59: Spoils of War
“Damn it, you useless piece of crap! You strut around acting all tough in the Wolf Gang, thinking you’re some hotshot, but in the end, you get your head blown off with a single bullet, couldn’t even protect your supplies! Ha! Wild wolf, my foot, not even as good as a stray dog! What bad luck!”
After the strategist finished cursing, he spat on his hand and shook it off, as if shaking off the bad luck of scavenging dead people’s belongings earlier.
Then, without lingering, he left straight away, fleeing the scene.
After the death of the wild wolf, similar situations unfolded one after another in various places of the Wolf Gang.
When facing danger, everyone scattered.
Who cares about the survival of the Wolf Gang? After all, it’s just about making a living.
What’s most interesting is that after the strategist left the wolf’s room, someone else sneaked in, trying to seize an opportunity.
As a result, everyone searched in vain.
Then, they kicked the wolf a few times out of frustration.
Poor wolf, glorious in life, pitifully swollen-faced in death from being kicked.
However, this situation didn’t last long.
Before long, the fire spread to the two-story villa where the leader of the Wolf Gang lived.
Soon, the flames engulfed the wolf.
At this moment, Alex and Olivia stood on a vantage point not far away, watching as the Wolf Gang’s stronghold was consumed by the blaze.
Olivia had already taken off her combat uniform, as payment for Alex risking his life to rescue her and completing the transaction.
Just then, Olivia suddenly remembered something and called out, turning to look at Alex.
“Alex, with the Wolf Gang’s supplies burned by the fire, isn’t it a waste?”
Alex, who had been watching the fire at the Wolf Gang’s location, heard Olivia’s question, withdrew his gaze, and chuckled.
“It’s not a waste at all. The people under the Wolf Gang are dirt poor. The real wealth was all hoarded by the wolf himself. I just happened to kill the wolf earlier, and now his supplies are in my hands.”
“You could say that killing him is basically equivalent to plundering the Wolf Gang.”
After hearing this, Olivia’s expression became somewhat intriguing.
“Well, I thought you came directly to rescue me, but turns out you went to kill the wolf and loot his supplies first. Hmm, how sad.”
Of course, Alex knew Olivia was joking, but he couldn’t help but feel amused and put on a face of grievance.
“I had to find your location first, didn’t I? I had to find the wolf before finding you…”
Olivia hummed a few times.
“I didn’t expect you could still act like a little puppy.”
“Alright, alright, I concede. I’m feeling goosebumps now.”
Alex laughed heartily and patted Olivia’s shoulder.
“Who asked you to mock me just now? This is called winning without fighting. Now you know how capable I am, right?”
Olivia felt a bit nervous by this sudden action and instinctively shrunk her shoulders.

Alex suddenly felt awkward, remembering that Olivia was a girl.
“Oh, by the way, you mentioned getting the wolf’s supplies earlier. Are there any rare items? As a not-so-small force leader, there should be quite a few good things, right?”
However, Alex shook his head with some helplessness.
“The Wolf Gang is a perfect example of all show and no substance. The leader of the Wolf Gang not only lacks firearms but also, apart from some daily necessities in the backpack, there are hardly any impressive items to speak of.”
Olivia was speechless upon hearing this.
She was at a loss for how to respond to Alex’s unintentional flaunting.
You see, in the current post-apocalyptic world, there are still many people who struggle to get enough to eat.
For someone to possess a considerable amount of daily necessities like water, bread, milk, etc., signifies significant power.
Yet, such a character, in Alex’s words, became nothing more than a braggart.
Olivia pursed her lips and could only ask, “So, when you said there weren’t many impressive items, does that mean there are still some rare supplies?”
Alex nodded and pulled out two things from his backpack.
An astronomical telescope and blueprints for a basic underground bunker.
Alex didn’t really think these were particularly useful items.
An astronomical telescope? In the current environment, who has the time to stargaze?
At least Alex didn’t.
And he couldn’t make sense of it anyway.
As for the blueprints for a basic underground bunker, Alex found them rather redundant.
After all, he already had barrier walls and a villa.
Who would bother hiding in an underground bunker, devoid of sunlight?
“Even with just these two items, they can be considered rare supplies,” he said.
“I’ve never seen an astronomical telescope before, and as for the blueprints for a basic underground bunker, they’re upgradable construction plans.”
“Considering my automated defense system, this underground bunker has great potential.”
“But, right now, I don’t know what they can help me with. It feels like they’re just decorations, kept for emergencies.”
“Huh? An astronomical telescope?!”
Olivia’s interest was suddenly piqued when she saw the telescope.
Alex then remembered that Olivia had been part of an astronomy club at university and had even invited him to join.
But being from a humble background, what did he know about astronomy?
In his mind, it was a hobby for wealthy people.
Seeing Olivia’s delighted expression, Alex smiled and said, “I almost forgot, you were the president of the astronomy club. If you like this telescope, it’s yours.”
Olivia had always loved stargazing.
When she was six years old, her family gave her a telescope as a birthday gift.
Since then, she had been studying the mysterious night sky, learning to read the constellations.
Upon hearing Alex’s words, Olivia was both surprised and a little embarrassed.
After all, a telescope was not a cheap gift.
“It’s too valuable, I can’t accept it,” she said.
Alex just smiled indifferently.
“Why be so polite? It’s just a telescope.”
Seeing Alex’s unconcerned attitude, Olivia explained, “Alex, this is a high-end telescope, worth at least tens of thousands of dollars, and I’m being conservative.”
Alex was taken aback.
Indeed, poverty had limited his imagination.
He had thought even an expensive telescope would only cost a few thousand dollars.
He hadn’t realized tens of thousands would be a conservative estimate.
But he didn’t mind, laughing, “Olivia, I don’t care about its value. In my hands, it’s just a pile of junk. But in yours, it can shine brighter. And in this apocalyptic world, there’s no point discussing its past price. I bet now, you’d struggle to exchange this telescope for ten pounds of flour.”
“Don’t feel bad, just take it.”
“Then I’ll accept it, thank you.”
Olivia took the telescope and said no more.
At this point, it was already more than enough, any more would be excessive.
As for the blueprints for the underground bunker, Alex put them back in his backpack.
He and Olivia discussed it and both felt they might not need the underground bunker for the time being.
They could only hold onto it for now.
…
The flames at the Wolf Gang’s stronghold were fueled by gasoline.
Without fire extinguishers, it was difficult to put out.
