Apocalypse: King of Zombies - Chapter 421
Chapter 421: What the hell, Jenny?!
“Should be no problem,” Chris said, still full of confidence.
“But that’s an S-Class Rabies Virus…” Jenny muttered under her breath, clearly uneasy.
Hellhound watched Mia’s condition with growing satisfaction. Her body was already showing obvious signs of mutation.
If nothing unexpected happened, this human was about to turn into a full-blown Rabies Zombie.
Mia’s body trembled harder and harder. The veins under her skin bulged grotesquely, and you could clearly see the blood surging through them.
Her once-bright eyes had turned completely blood-red, and her long black hair whipped wildly in the night wind, making her look like some vengeful spirit straight out of a nightmare.
Hellhound smirked, his voice dripping with mockery. “You don’t have much time left. I’d say… about five seconds before you lose your mind and become a mindless zombie. Five… four… three…”
His voice, low and demonic, started counting down, each number hitting everyone like a hammer to the chest.
“Mia! Hang in there!” someone shouted.
“She’s not gonna… like, totally lose it, right?”
“She shouldn’t… right?”
“…”
Nervous whispers rippled through the crowd.
Meanwhile, Hellhound’s countdown was reaching its end.
“One!”
He spat out the final number, then stood there, ready to enjoy the show.
But something strange happened—Mia was still standing. She hadn’t lost her mind. She hadn’t turned into a zombie.
“Huh?” Hellhound blinked, caught completely off guard. His face froze in awkward confusion.
No transformation?
“You wanna count again?” Mia’s voice cut through the tension, calm and steady. She slowly closed her blood-red eyes.
A sudden surge of energy burst from her body, a faint mist of blood aura swirling around her.
In an instant—
The bulging veins smoothed out, her skin returning to its natural pale tone. The blackened blood around her wounds faded away.
When she opened her eyes again, they were no longer red—they were clear and bright, just like before.
At the same time, a powerful aura exploded from her, growing stronger by the second.

“This…” Hellhound’s fierce eyes narrowed, disbelief written all over his face.
No way… No fucking way…
She actually resisted an S-Class virus?
“I told you already,” Mia said, stepping forward with one foot. Her voice was cold, almost casual. “Other than being ugly, you’re really not that special.”

The moment her foot touched the ground, she vanished.
Her body moved so fast it was beyond human perception. In her hand, her Tachi blade crackled with wild lightning, slicing through the darkness like a bolt from the heavens.
To Hellhound, it felt like a hurricane was barreling straight at him. The sheer sharpness of the incoming strike made his blood run cold—death was right there, breathing down his neck.
The Zombie King, who had always been the predator, suddenly felt a raw, primal fear.
The blade’s electric glow was already at his throat.
Panicking, Hellhound twisted his body at the last second, narrowly dodging the fatal blow.
But he wasn’t fast enough.
Pain exploded in his shoulder. Black blood sprayed into the air, and one of the bone wings on his back was torn apart.
Mia’s strike had been aimed straight for his neck.
His desperate dodge had shifted the trajectory just enough that the blade slashed across his shoulder and wing instead.
Hellhound stood frozen, feeling the cold bite of the night air against his wounded flesh. His whole body went numb. Since gaining sentience, he had never been this close to death.
“Just a little closer…” he thought, shuddering.
“ROAR—!” Overwhelmed by fear and rage, he let out a furious howl.
Without wasting another second, he spread his wings and shot into the sky, soaring high above the ground.
Because staying down there… was way too dangerous.
…
Meanwhile, down below, the tide of Rabies Zombies surged forward, swarming toward the humans like a living flood.
Seeing that he was no match for Mia, Hellhound decided to let his underlings take the heat for a while—wear the humans down, sap their strength.
Mia swung her Tachi in a wide arc, slicing through the incoming zombies like a scythe through wheat. In one sweeping move, she cleared a circle around herself, creating a temporary dead zone where no zombie dared step.
She glanced up at the sky, eyes narrowing.
“Running away already?” she called out, voice dripping with disdain.
“You… you just wait! Don’t you dare run either!” Hellhound snarled back, his voice full of rage and humiliation. As one of San Diego’s Four War Generals, a top lieutenant under Nightbane, getting forced to retreat by a human was a disgrace he could barely stomach.
No way he could just slink back to the corpse nest like this. He needed reinforcements—fast.
Back on the battlefield, Chris and the others were fired up. Watching Mia nearly decapitate the Zombie King with a single strike had everyone’s blood pumping.
“Look at him now! Not so cocky anymore, huh?”
“San Diego’s Four War Generals are tough, sure—but they’re nothing compared to Mia.”
“We gotta take advantage of this and kill as many of these bastards as we can.”
“Yeah!”
Everyone was hyped. Every zombie they took down meant one less threat to the shelter—maybe even saving a friend’s life without realizing it.
So Chris and the others fought even harder.
Jenny was right there with them, her water-based powers surging. She summoned roaring water dragons that swept through the zombie ranks, tearing them apart. Any that got too close, she finished off with a quick slash of her short blade, severing heads with brutal efficiency.
She had to clear these monsters out. Only then could the shelter be safe—only then could she give her daughter a real chance at a normal life.
Though honestly… ever since she got to the Los Angeles shelter, it kinda felt like she’d boarded a pirate ship she couldn’t get off.
“Hang in there, Jenny!” Chris shouted, trying to encourage her.
“Shut the hell up!” Jenny snapped back, gritting her teeth.
But just as she was cutting down another zombie, a strange whisper brushed against her ear—soft, almost like someone murmuring right next to her.
“What the hell…?” Jenny frowned, straining to hear.
She focused, tuning out the chaos around her.
And this time… she heard it clearly.
“Give up… Take your blade… and drive it into your own throat,” the voice hissed, dripping with a sinister, almost hypnotic power.
Jenny’s eyes glazed over instantly. Like she was under a spell, she slowly raised her blood-smeared short blade, pressing it against her own neck.
“Hey! Stop!”
Robert, who had been keeping a close eye on everyone, immediately noticed something was wrong. He shouted, voice sharp with alarm.
“Somebody stop her!”
Chris, who was right next to Jenny, saw it too. Without thinking, he lunged forward, tackling her to the ground. He grabbed her wrist, trying to wrestle the blade away.
“What the hell, Jenny?! You trying to get yourself killed?!”
But Jenny didn’t respond. Her face was blank, her body struggling violently against him, desperate to finish the job.
Chris could feel her soft body twisting beneath him, but he gritted his teeth and tightened his grip. No way he was letting her die like this.
“Snap out of it, dammit!”
And then—miraculously—she froze.
Chris blinked, stunned.
But before he could even breathe a sigh of relief, the voice in Jenny’s ear shifted.
“Kill him.”
Her eyes sharpened instantly, locking onto Chris with a chilling focus. Without hesitation, she flipped the blade around and drove it straight toward his throat.
Chris’s heart nearly stopped. He jerked his head to the side just in time.
Shhk!
The blade missed his neck but plunged deep into his shoulder.
Blood sprayed out, hot and fast. Pain exploded through him, but Chris gritted his teeth, forcing himself to stay conscious. He glanced down at the wound, his mind reeling.
And then, a strange sense of déjà vu hit him.
This kind of injury… it felt eerily familiar…
