Chapter 104: Yet to face reality
Bai Meiyue felt amused when she saw her mother glaring at her brother. At the same time, she was touched by the care of her mother; even though Mother Bai almost lost her life, she wanted to hide the truth from Bai Meiyue, all because she did not want her daughter to worry.
She pulled her mother to the couch and helped her sit down. She then said to her family,
“Mom, Brother Zhan, Brother Jixuan. There is no need for you to look for water from now on; when you all left, someone tried to break into the apartment. I was scared by their actions and ended up awakening the water ability.”
As she finished speaking, Bai Meiyue filled the empty jug that was sitting on the table. The water inside the jug was filled with clean and sparkling water, which looked even better than the mineral water. Bai Meiyue poured the water that she had collected in the jug into three glasses.
Her mother and brothers worked hard to find supplies but they didn’t even take a sip of water and brought everything back home. The days when her supplies would be snatched by the Bai family without them even leaving a piece of bread seemed so far away that for a few minutes Bai Meiyue felt at peace.
She looked at the chapped lips of her mother and two brothers, and her eyes turned red. She said to them, “Here, Mom, drink some water. You all have worked hard; I will go and fill the bathtub with water; make sure to take a bath and clean the blood off your body.”
“And the weather is turning cold; I picked up some warm pants when I went out to hunt for supplies the last time. You should wear those.”
Mother Bai hummed in agreement. She no longer refused to follow her daughter’s orders.
So while her family went to take a bath, Bai Meiyue was in the kitchen. She was looking at the supplies she had gathered before the end of the world and wondered what to cook for tonight’s dinner.
However, when she thought of the labour she had to put into cooking something, Bai Meiyue felt a bit lazy. She had worked hard the entire day and now just wanted to laze around.
After a short while, Bai Meiyue decided to simply take something out of her space pocket. She had packed so much takeout food; when would it come in handy if not now?
She looked at the food that she had packed in her space pocket and flipped through them one by one.
However, her greedy self wanted to bite everything, making it hard for Bai Meiyue to decide what she wanted to eat. Bai Meiyue couldn’t help but poke her belly.
“You greedy little fox, can you even eat so much food?” Bai Meiyue questioned her son before turning to look at her two nephews who were playing in the hall.
Bai Zhan had brought some toys for the two of them to play and these toys were enough to keep them busy for the time being.
“Han’er, Que’er,” she called the two boys. “What would you like to eat?”
“What do we have, auntie?” Bai Qian Han was sensible as the older one of the two brothers. He sensed that something was wrong and the elders were worried about the food and water; thus, he didn’t tell what he wanted to eat but instead asked what their family had such that he or his brother wouldn’t make an unreasonable demand.
Even though his aunt treated him really well, Bai Qian Han was worried about causing trouble for his aunt.
What if she found him too greedy and sent him and his brother back to their mother? He didn’t want to and Bai Qian Han knew that Bai Jiuque didn’t want to either.
“Hmm,” Bai Meiyue thought about it for a while before saying, “We have tomato beef brisket, spicy rabbit meat with rice, honey-glazed barbeque pork, spicy braised ribs, corn and cheese, roasted mutton, braised pork, as well as duck, liangpi, sweet and sour fish, spicy pork knuckle… there are a few more things but I will leave these things for later. Just tell me what you want to eat from the list that I laid out.”
The two boys were shocked when they heard the number of things that they could eat.
Bai Jiuque swallowed hard and asked tentatively, “Aunt, can I eat a bowl of noodles with pork knuckles?”
“No,” Bai Meiyue shook her head.
“Oh,” Bai Jiuque stiffened as his face fell. He thought that Bai Meiyue was not willing to give him noodles after all; he did feel that his request was a bit too much but before he could say anything else, Bai Meiyue picked up and tickled him.
“You little brat, you need to eat three bowls at least! Look at those thin arms; how will you grow tall and strong as your father?” She teased her little nephew as Bai Jiuque’s mirthful laughter filled the entire room.
While Bai Meiyue’s house was filled with laughter and warmth, the penthouse where Bai Feng had brought Bai Qingshi and the rest was filled with a chilly coldness.
Because Bai Qinshi and his family were trapped in the prison, they had no idea that the world was coming to an end. Thus, they had done no preparations. The penthouse was cold with no electricity or water supply.
Even though Bai Feng found a portable heater, without any electricity connection, how were they supposed to turn it on?

“Is this it?” Chu Xia looked at the fish that Bai Feng had caught while looking for food earlier and her face turned sour. She was really not happy with how she went from riches to rags. In the past, she could eat anything as long as she waved her hand and now she could not even get her hands on anything decent.
“Mom,” Bai Xue warned her mother by tugging her sleeves and tipping her chin at Bai Feng, whose face was sullen.
Only then did Chu Xia give him a fake smile and say, “I didn’t mean anything harsh… I mean, it is just not enough for so many of us. Don’t think too much, Feng’er.”
