Chapter 118: Change the way you think
Mother Bai couldn’t understand how her daughter could underestimate the current changes in the world.
The situation was already like this; did Bai Meiyue think that she could do anything as long as she wanted? Mother Bai didn’t look down on Bai Meiyue because she was a girl but as a village woman, she still couldn’t shake off the old teachings that she learnt in the village.
Bai Meiyue was just a girl; no matter how strong she was, she couldn’t be as strong as a man, could she? Why did she have to take the risks when she could have asked her brothers to do it for her? She was a woman and women were supposed to be pampered.
Not to mention her daughter went through something so terrible.
Mother Bai was worried that her daughter would take a step that she didn’t wish for her to take and couldn’t sit still when she realised that her daughter was not at home.
In the village, when something like this happened to young women, they would be so stimulated that they would kill themselves. And it happened suddenly; one day they would be smiling and the next day they would be gone.
When Mother Bai thought that Bai Meiyue might have done something similar, she almost ran out of the house on her own. Fortunately, her daughter returned home.
“Mom, why don’t you believe me?” Bai Meiyue was also helpless when she heard the words of her mother. She stood up and hugged her mother from behind. “I am alright; look at me. I will never do anything that will put me in danger; I can’t bear to leave you all.”
As she spoke, she picked up a piece of apple and brought it to the lips of her mother, who sighed heavily and snatched the piece of apple before slamming it down on the table. She then glared at her daughter, who was trying to butter her up and questioned,
“Then tell me. Tell me, what did you do last night? Where did you go and why did you return so late?”
“I just went to rescue one of my friends. She helped me a lot after what Bai Qingshi did to me.”
She was not lying, even though Shen Zhen didn’t do anything for her in this life. In her past life, Shen Zhen was the one who helped her when she went into labour and made sure that she didn’t die.
If she had been left in the hands of the Bai family, those beasts would have used her tattered body to please the higher-ups and sold her son to researchers on the very day he was born.
It was because of Shen Zhen that she was able to survive for so long. Even her son was safe in the care of that woman.
Shen Zhen was her saviour and Bai Meiyue was not going to stop looking for that woman.
When Mother Bai heard Bai Meiyue say those words, she gritted her teeth. She hated Bai Qingshi and cursed him even more in his heart. If not for the fact that the man was not in front of her, she would have scratched him to death.
That bastard he really dug a deep hole for her daughter!
“Did you find her?” Though Mother Bai was cursing Bai Qingshi in her heart, she did not forget to ask about Shen Zhen.
Bai Meiyue shook her head and answered, “It seems like my friend ran away when she was escaping.”
When Mother Bai heard this, she sighed. In her mind, she half ascertained that Shen Zhen was dead but Bai Meiyue didn’t think the same. After all, Shen Zhen, despite not awakening as a supernatural being, stayed alive even longer than her.
Thus, that woman should be fine, right?
“Yueyue, I am thinking of practicing killing zombies as well.” Bai Zhan finished drinking his cup of milk and then looked at his sister. He said to her, “Take me with you the next time you are going out to hunt the zombies.”
“Zhan’er!”
“Mom,” Bai Zhan sighed and tried to explain the situation to his mother. “The world is like this already. We can no longer stay inside our home and wait for death. It is better to learn how to adapt.”
“But—”
“Mom, Mom,” Bai Jixuan raised his hand and said to his mother, “I have studied how to farm in the greenhouse; we should start thinking about growing vegetables or else sooner or later we will have nothing to eat.”
Mother Bai glared at her sons when she saw them doing their own thing.
“Fine, fine, just do your thing.” Mother Bai rolled her eyes. She turned to look at Bai Meiyue, who was stifling a yawn and said to her, “Go and take a nap; you look dead on your feet.”
“Okay,” Bai Meiyue finished her breakfast and then hurried upstairs. Seeing this, Mother Bai was quite upset. She turned to look at her sons and scolded them.

“You are spoiling her too much. Look at this; she is so daring. If you don’t stop her, what do you think she would do?”
“Mom, you know her better than we do. Do you really think Yueyue would listen to us if we told her to stop going outside?” Bai Zhan said helplessly. When Bai Meiyue was young, they had asked her to follow them; back then, Bai Meiyue was just eight and yet she was quite firm with her refusal.
It was impossible for Bai Meiyue to listen to them. She didn’t listen to them when she was then and she wouldn’t listen to them if she didn’t want to.
“That’s right, Mom, what’s the point in telling her off?” Bai Jixuan asked as he finished wiping the mouths of his two nephews. “You can stop her and she might even agree to it but if she goes behind your back, what would you do?”
He then turned solemn and added, “Not to mention, did you not notice that something is weird with Yueyue?”
As soon as he finished speaking, the entire hall fell into silence.
