Chapter 119: Broke out in fever

How could Mother Bai not notice that there was something amiss? She gave birth to Bai Meiyue after nine months of suffering and twelve hours of labour; that girl came out of her womb, so of course, Mother Bai knew that there was something wrong.

Crystal tears started to fall from her eyes and Mother Bai covered her face and sobbed silently. Of course, she knew that the woman in front of her was definitely her daughter. There was no changing the fact that Bai Meiyue was her daughter; how could she not recognise her daughter?

But the changes in her… who knows what kind of suffering she had gone through? She was so grown up that Mother Bai didn’t dare to even think about it.

Her daughter was so naive and innocent—bohoo!

Looking at their mother, who was sobbing, Bai Zhan and Bai Jixuan exchanged a gaze. Bai Zhan sighed and said to his mother, “Mom, I know that this is all very hard for you but you need to change that rigid thinking of yours. Now that the world has turned into a mess like this, we can no longer look at the world in the same manner as we did in the past.”

“We might as well try our best to deal with these changes. If we keep stopping Yueyue, then I am worried that we will hold her back.”

Bai Zhan had seen Bai Meiyue fight with the zombies. She was more than just skilled in dealing with those monsters; his sister was stronger and more powerful than him, and Bai Zhan had no face to stop her anymore.

Mother Bai only sobbed harder after listening to his words. Seeing this, the two Bai brothers didn’t say anything anymore. They spoke a few more words of comfort to their mother and asked her to understand and cope with the changes.

They couldn’t help Bai Meiyue but the least they could do was to make sure that they didn’t hold their sister back.

The two brothers then went to look for tools to arrange the greenhouse and started working on the large area that was left open.

On the other side, in the penthouse occupied by the Bai family, things went just as Bai Meiyue expected. The second Bai Feng arrived at the apartment, the bag of supplies was snatched from him and all the supplies were taken away from him.

Bai Xue was so hungry and thirsty that even she let go of her identity and persona as an elegant woman and started gorging down the bread and water. When she found out about a pack of sausage, she didn’t care about the little rip in the packet and happily wolfed it down.

She of course remembered to feed some sausages to Su Hu but she completely forgot about Bai Feng. After all, she had taken him for granted for so many years; how could she suddenly change her attitude?

Bai Feng looked at his family and then looked down at his empty hands. He recalled Bai Meiyue’s sneer when she asked him if he was going to eat or not and suddenly felt embarrassed and ashamed.

Back then, he thought that Bai Meiyue was thinking too much; after all, even if the Bai family was selfish, they would still leave a few things for him to eat. Who would have thought that Bai Xue would remember to leave a pack of sausages for Su Hu but not him?

Chu Xia, who was gulping down the dry sandwiches, looked at Bai Feng and said to him, “Next time, try to bring some meat as well, Feng’er. I haven’t eaten it for a long time. Look at this; I and Xue’er have gotten so thin.”

Hearing this, Bai Feng’s lips thinned. Though he did not expect a grand welcome, he could at least expect to be thanked. He looked at the supplies that were almost gone and sighed before walking past the four hungry ghosts.

From start to finish, he didn’t say a word to Chu Xia.

When Chu Xia saw his actions, she pulled a long face and sneered, “Why are you making that face as if we owe something to you, humph!”

“No one will treat you as mute if you don’t speak!” Bai Qingshi warned her in a low voice. It wasn’t that they didn’t know that they needed to leave a few supplies for Bai Feng. It was just that they didn’t want to and deliberately pretended to be stupid.

The supplies were less, to begin with; if they left some for Bai Feng, what would happen to them? So they snatched all the supplies and decided to fill their stomachs first.

By the time they felt full, more than half of the supplies were gone and they were greedy to save the rest.

They had taken all the supplies without leaving anything for Bai Feng and on top of that, Chu Xia was now scolding Bai Feng. Did she think that her life was too easy these days?

Chu Xia pursed her lips but she was not unrepentant. She snorted and said, “What did I say wrong? He is such a big man, it wouldn’t kill him if he were to starve for three or four days. We have raised him until he got this big and strong; this is nothing compared to our grace.”

Bai Qingshi glared at her but did not say anything to stop her. He too thought the same. Bai Feng was so strong; what was the point of being so strong and able-bodied if he could not even stay hungry for a few days? It was not as if he was going to die.

Bai Feng, who was lying on his bed, could hear everything. He raised his arm and covered his eyes with it. He wondered if this was really the happy and warm family that he was supposed to protect.

He had only closed his eyes for a few minutes but then he was woken up by Bai Xue’s scream.

“AHH! What should we do now?”
