Chapter 128: Lu Yin’s selfishness
Bai Jixuan soon came downstairs with a backpack of his own. He looked at his elder brother and sister before saying to them, “Let’s go.” He then turned to look at his frowning mother and rushed over to hug her. “Don’t worry so much, mother; we will be back soon.”
Yan Wanning pinched her son, who was acting like a baby and said to him, “Don’t say words to coax me; make sure that you follow your own words.” She was also helpless; after all, there was nothing she could do at this point. They had limited resources at their home; even if Bai Meiyue could fill the water containers with water, she couldn’t take out food from thin air, could she?
Bai Meiyue: “…” Actually, I can.
Though Bai Meiyue knew that what she was doing was making her mother nervous, she could only grit her teeth and continue. It was a miracle that her two brothers awakened as defensive ability users instead of awakening as gentle healers or earth ability users.
Since the heavens had given her a chance to correct everything that went wrong, Bai Meiyue would not waste this opportunity. She would not only teach her brothers how to fight with zombies; if possible, she would try to help them awaken as dual or triple ability users.
Of course, she would never let anything happen to her two brothers but she couldn’t let them stay at home and hide like Bai Qingshi, that coward.
“Don’t you know me, Mom?” Bai Jixuan spoke to his mother with a teasing smile. “I have such little guts; how could I dare to fight those monsters? I will follow my brother and Yueyue honestly. If not for the fact that I wanted to increase the chances to get more supplies, I would have stayed with you, Mom.”
Hearing his sweet words, Yan Wanning was amused but she no longer felt as troubled as she did earlier. She patted her children on their backs and wished for their safe return.
“Sister Meiyue!” Just as Bai Meiyue stepped out of the house, she ran into Lei Yan, who was running towards her with a smile on her lips.
After awakening, Lei Yan seemed to have grown taller and stronger; she no longer looked like a weak sixteen-year-old girl.
“Ah Yan,” Bai Meiyue nodded at the girl and looked behind her. She found Lu Yu and Lu Yin following Lei Yan and her expression became subtle when she saw Lu Yin following Lei Yan.
The woman was no longer as bright as she was the last time Bai Meiyue saw her. She was still smiling and looking around with a fake innocence in her eyes but Bai Meiyue knew that beneath that innocence, Lu Yin actually held some resentment!
It wasn’t difficult to sense it. After all, the second Lu Yin saw her, she grimaced lightly as if Bai Meiyue had ruined her plans.
Bai Meiyue raised her brow. She looked at Lu Yin with a heavy look before turning to look at Lei Yan. She suddenly had a good idea of what this woman wanted to do.
“Are you going out to search for supplies?” Bai Meiyue asked politely and Lei Yan nodded with an embarrassed smile.
“Yes. We realised that we cannot rely on you all the time,” stated Lei Yan. Originally, she wanted to follow Bai Meiyue but soon she realised that she couldn’t just depend on Bai Meiyue. She could ask Bai Meiyue to let her follow for one or two times but she couldn’t follow her all the time, could she?
Thus, she started to hunt for supplies on her own. She also formed a little alliance with a few supernatural beings on the twelfth floor. Though those brothers were not really trustworthy, she had no other choice.
“Do you want to go together tonight then?” Bai Meiyue asked. The reason she said these words was because she had a feeling that Lu Yin had some kind of evil plan brewing in that little head of hers.
The way she was looking at Lei Yan was not right and given that Lei Yan didn’t realise it, Bai Meiyue decided that she might as well keep an eye on things.
It wasn’t that she had suddenly turned into a warm-hearted person. But Lei Yan had been good to her; she had even stood up for her many times and it would be simply inhuman to leave this little hot pepper alone at times of danger.
Sure enough, as soon as she finished speaking, she saw Lu Yin’s eyes flash with dissatisfaction. So, this woman really planned something!
Bai Meiyue turned to look at Lu Yu and noticed that he was unbothered by her suggestion, which was a good thing; at least he was not on board with the sinister plan that his sister had cooked.
“Sure!” Lei Yan agreed without hesitation but then she paused and added with a stiff smile, “But can I invite a few of my team members? If not, we can—”
“It is alright,” Bai Meiyue nodded and agreed. She had nothing against these members whom Lei Yan was talking about as long as they were not a bunch of scheming rats like Lu Yin.
Seeing that Bai Meiyue had agreed, Lei Yan was overjoyed and immediately brought Bai Meiyue and her brothers to the twelfth floor. Lu Yin, who was following them, pursed her lips in a thin line.
She looked at Bai Meiyue with an angry expression and cursed the woman and her brothers to death many times.
How could she not? Lu Yin had been preparing for this night for days. Even when she was dragged out of her bed and had to face those disgusting monsters, she was willing to do it all because she wanted to push Lei Yan to the horde of monsters once she gained her trust.
Aunt Lei often said that she treated her like her daughter but when it came to rescuing either her or Lei Yan, she actually chose Lei Yan and left her to fend for herself. Since that was the case, then she might as well eradicate the cause of this injustice.
