Chapter 131: Too late to back out
Of course, if Bai Feng hadn’t seen Bai Meiyue’s bold actions that night, he would have worried about her just like Bai Xue. But after that night’s venture, he knew very well that Bai Meiyue didn’t need to rely on anyone. She had changed and was not dependent on him anymore.
And it wasn’t that he didn’t want to help Bai Meiyue. If possible, he would have brought supplies for her as well, but last night, when she fed him medicine, Bai Feng heard her cold words. Before he still had some hope that she would let go of the past and return to the Bai family.
Under Chu Xia’s constant brainwashing, he felt that as long as the family was together, they could face anything and even make up for the things that they had done to Bai Meiyue.
But after last night, he didn’t dare to think so anymore. Bai Meiyue had saved his life but she had saved him for the sake of making him owe her a favour. It was clear that she was not going to return and she had no intentions of doing so, and after hearing the disgust in her voice when she talked about Bai Qingshi and the rest of the family, Bai Feng had no desire to force her either.
In fact, he knew that even if he brought supplies for Bai Meiyue, she wouldn’t want it. She might even find his actions burdensome.
More importantly, Bai Feng was not a man of steel and iron. He was made of flesh!
He was already having enough trouble with looking for supplies for the entire family and now Bai Xue wanted him to look for supplies for Bai Meiyue and her family as well. He really couldn’t do it!
After he finished tying the shoelaces of his shoes, he dragged his dizzy self out of the house. He headed downstairs, where he snuck into the garage and then slid inside the car, where he started to sort his things. He found a silencer in the dashboard of the car and attached it to his gun.
However, once he was done attaching the silencer, he started to once again worry about the future. He didn’t collect ammunition and guns for business purposes; he only did it because he liked to collect guns and stuff.
Because of this, Bai Feng didn’t have enough stock of bullets and had no idea where to find them. He sighed and tucked the gun in his waist belt before driving out of the garage. As he drove past the streets that he and Bai Meiyue cleared up, Bai Feng suddenly felt a bit uncomfortable.
Last night, when he was lying in the corridor, he recalled how Bai Meiyue had fought right next to him without leaving him. Compared to her, Bai Xue and the Bai family—they really made one’s heart turn cold.
Bai Feng drove up with a heavy heart.
If only he had known that the worry that Bai Xue had shown for Bai Meiyue was nothing but an excuse to get more supplies from him.
Just as he drove past the street, a large van that was used by the fans to send special gifts to their idols rushed past the street. Because there were countless zombies standing on its roof and hanging by its side, the van was driving in a wild manner.
Inside the van, Xiang Mei clutched the steering wheel and twisted the van to the side. She was more focused on shaking the man-eating monsters of the van and didn’t care about the safety. Because of this, the van ended up being slammed into a telephone pole.
BANG!
The zombies that were clinging to the vans fell one by one before they started to stagger towards the van once again. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Xiang Mei turned the van on and drove past the horde of monsters.
“Faster!”
Someone behind her shouted, causing Xiang Mei’s already stretched nerves to stretch even further as she shouted back, “I am driving faster!”
After many twists and turns, the van came to a stop in front of the Sunshine Deluxe Building.
Once the bus stopped, no one waited for Xiang Mei to speak. The second the door opened, the people inside the van rushed upstairs.
Because Bai Meiyue had cleaned up the building to make it safe for her family, these people did not find a single zombie in their path and happily rushed to the apartment number that Bai Xue gave to them.
Xiang Mei took the lead as she charged upstairs and rushed to the main door of the penthouse. Unlike Bai Meiyue, who had separated the two corridors with an electric door, Bai Feng didn’t have the chance to do so. The little gate that was installed had long been broken by the refugees, leaving no barricade behind.
“Xuexue! Xuexue! Are you in there?” Xiang Mei knocked on the door in a hurry and called Bai Xue.
“What’s going on?” Chu Xia was gnawing on the small milk bun that Bai Feng had brought with him last time when she heard someone call for Bai Xue.
She turned to look at her daughter and asked, “Did someone come looking for you?”
When Bai Xue had agreed to give Xiang Mei a place to rest and stay, she didn’t think things through. However, after calming down, she realised that her little plan had many flaws. However, she had already invited Xiang Mei and couldn’t send her away. Even if it was the end of the world, she still wanted to keep her reputation as a kind and gentle woman intact.
She smiled at her mother and explained in a calm voice, “Mom, don’t think too much. If we have more people, don’t you think our chances of surviving will get higher as well? We can join forces together to deal with those monsters.”
Though she said that, she didn’t forget to ask Chu Xia to hide their supplies well. After all, Bai Xue never planned to share her supplies with others.
