Chapter 133: Scream in the dark
Lu Yin was the first to agree. She nodded and said, “Leader Yun is right. There is no point in looking for supplies in a group. We should separate and look for supplies; this way, we will be able to find the supplies quickly and return home.”
“Fine,” Bai Meiyue looked at Lu Yin with a profound look before announcing, “But I am not used to working with strangers. I cannot work efficiently with people I do not know, so I will take Yan’er with me.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Lu Yin shot a dirty look at her, which made Bai Meiyue amused. What the hell? It was Lu Yin who had countless dirty schemes inside that little head of hers, so why was she looking at Bai Meiyue as if she was the one who was in the wrong?
Though Bai Meiyue noticed Lu Yin’s little actions, she didn’t point them out. Lu Yin hadn’t done anything yet; if Bai Meiyue said anything at this point, she knew that Lu Yin would claim that she was trying to target her. It was better to take precautions rather than hurling accusations without evidence.
“Fair enough,” Yun Chuan nodded as he silently heaved a sigh of relief. In fact even if Bai Meiyue had not said anything, he would have teamed her up with Lei Yan instead of letting her follow him and his team. Though he trusted Lei Yan, this was his first time meeting with Bai Meiyue and her brothers.
With the world in chaos, he wouldn’t dare to trust anyone.
Bai Meiyue also sensed his relief but she didn’t say anything. She wasn’t offended either; after all, the fact that Yun Chuan was able to create this small team and survive the apocalypse was enough to prove that he was a smart man and she respected men like him.
It was a good thing that Lei Qian was not with them; thus, he didn’t notice the flash of admiration in Bai Meiyue’s eyes when she looked at Yun Chuan; if he had, then he would have fought with this future good brother of his.
The only one who was upset was Lu Yin. She bit her lips and looked at Bai Meiyue and Lei Yan aggrivedly. Sure enough, she wasn’t mistaken. Bai Meiyue sensed something amiss and was protecting Lei Yan. But the more Bai Meiyue wanted to protect Lei Yan, the more Lu Yin hated Lei Yan. Why was it that everyone was willing to protect Lei Yan but not her?
If Bai Meiyue hadn’t intervened, then she would have dealt with Lei Yan, making the choice obvious!
Lu Yin was not willing to let go after all; she had planned this for a long time.
Bai Meiyue didn’t care whether she was willing or not, she took her small group to the farmer’s market. Though they didn’t find zombies, they did find a bunch of mutated rats that were feasting on the leftover vegetables and the waste that was left behind by the workers.
“You should try to use your skills on these monsters first,” said Bai Meiyue as she stepped back. “They are much easier to deal with than the zombies.”
What was more, the doomsday virus in the mutated rats was not as strong as in zombies. Thus, even if her brothers were bitten by these rats, at most they would feel slightly feverish and nothing else.
Bai Zhan and Bai Jixuan said nothing.
One of them turned his entire arm into gold while the other turned into a gigantic wolf.
Bai Meiyue watched as her two brothers charged at the mutated rats; one smashed the rat into pulp while the other clawed and bit the rats to death. She then turned to look at Lei Yan, who was standing behind her and said, “Do you want to try?”
She wasn’t surprised when Lei Yan didn’t agree and said, “I will go and collect the vegetables.”
“Okay. But don’t go too far.”
If Lei Yan left her side and something happened, then she was worried that she wouldn’t be able to rescue her in time.
“Alright,” Lei Yan replied with a smile before turning around and heading to the small freezer where vegetables were stored.
While her brothers were cleaning up the rats, Bai Meiyue looked around the market and slowly collected a few hoes, sickles, and other farming tools and stored them in the space pocket. She didn’t touch the vegetables and instead packed them in a box and placed them on top of the cabinets to avoid being destroyed by the mice.
After she was done, she dusted her hands and headed to the side, where she found a few boots and chains that were tied around the wheels when the roads started to get slippery. Though she had enough of these in her space, she thought about Yun Chuan and the rest before taking a few chains and placing them in her backpack.
Once she was done, she turned to look at her brothers, who were wiping their hands on their clothes with a disgusted look on their faces.
“These are really icky,” Bai Jixuan spat on the ground. Though he couldn’t taste anything when he bit these rats, he still felt a bit disgusted. After all, he had to use his mouth when killing these rats.
“You will get used to it,” Bai Meiyue could say nothing else. After all, with the skills that her second brother had awakened, he had no choice but to get used to it.
Of course, once he becomes a third- or fourth-level supernatural being, he can easily control other beasts with his skills instead of using his own skills.
“Are you done looking around?” Bai Zhan asked as he put a few gloves in his backpack and looked at his two siblings. “If you are, then we should —”
He was still speaking when suddenly there was a loud crash followed by an even louder scream.
