Chapter 139: Another grace
Bai Feng knew that Bai Meiyue was hesitating due to their relationship but the more she hesitated, the more the chances of her falling into danger would increase. What if he turned into one of those man-eating monsters and attacked her? It would be better if she just killed him.
Hearing his response, Bai Meiyue sighed and took down her hand. She glanced at the small cut on Bai Feng’s neck and said lightly, “I think you will be fine. You still have the strength to speak and you can speak and think quite clearly. The chances of you becoming a zombie don’t look very high.” she paused and added, “We still have something to do at the gas station, so I will wait until we are leaving. If you really become a zombie by then, I will not be merciful and kill you in one move. If you don’t turn into one…”
Her eyes flashed and she smirked. “Then remember, I have saved your life twice. If I provoke you in the future, you need to remember that it was my mercy and grace that saved your life, and you can only die saving me but can never kill me.”
After she was done speaking, she returned to the gas station, where her brothers were waiting for her. Lei Yan had already returned and was happily eating some popping candies. She had no idea how close she was to death just now because of her carelessness while Lu Yin was huddled in a corner. She shivered slightly when she saw Bai Meiyue return and didn’t dare to meet her gaze.
Bai Meiyue curled her lips and didn’t bother with her; instead, she turned to look at Lu Yu, who stood at the corner of the gas station discussing something.
“We cannot leave right now.” Yun Chuan shook his head and sighed. “The team members are exhausted and the streets are heavily infected by those monsters; if we return home now, then I am afraid that someone will make a mistake.”
“Then you mean to say we should stay in this open space for the night?” Lu Yu asked with a frown. Though he agreed with what Yun Chuan said, he was afraid that staying here was just as dangerous.
There was not a single room that had an intact door that could be used to block the zombies if they slept in this open space—what if they were attacked by a horde of zombies or someone else?
“There is nothing else,” Yun Chuan sighed again. Did he want to stay in this open space? Of course not but… he raised his head and looked at the end of the street; even though it was dark, he could still see a few zombies staggering at the end of the street while muttering ho ho.
He had noticed that zombies always infected an area in large groups, which meant that these zombies were not alone; there were more behind them. Their team had to clean up more than fifty to sixty zombies just now and some of them were injured by the refugees inside the farmer’s market.
They really couldn’t take the risk!
Lu Yu also didn’t want to force Yun Chuan and the rest; he was just worried that Lu Yin would find it uncomfortable and wanted to see if there were any chances of returning home. Since there were none, he naturally wouldn’t insist.
He nodded and agreed. But just as he turned around, he saw Bai Meiyue standing behind him with a calm smile on her face.
“Miss Bai?” Because of Lei Qian, Lu Yu was really polite and respectful towards Bai Meiyue. Even though the world was coming to an end, Lu Yu would never forget the grace the Lei family had shown to him and his sister.
“Mister Lu,” Bai Meiyue nodded back at the man and without giving him a chance to speak, she asked, “Has the Lei family ever let you down?”
Lu Yu’s brows scrunched up when he heard her ask this question. He couldn’t understand why Bai Meiyue was asking him this but he still shook his head and replied, “No.”
“Then do you have some grudge against them?” Bai Meiyue still asked persistently while throwing the knife in the air and catching it back.
“Of course not.”
“Then did they kill your parents?” Bai Meiyue asked.
“Miss Bai, don’t you think you are being too rude?” Lu Yu spoke with creased brows.
Upon hearing his harsh words, not only was Bai Meiyue not angry, she even chuckled. She raised the dagger that she had snatched from Lu Yin and hurled it at Lu Yu, whose eyes widened, and he stepped back just in time for Bai Meiyue to catch the blade of the dagger and turn it around such that the handle was facing Lu Yu.
“The one who is being rude is your sister,” she told him coldly. “Tell her to not have thoughts that she shouldn’t be having. If she is scared, then she needs to work hard to get stronger. Not kill someone and take their place.”
She then thrust the dagger into Lu Yu’s hands and charged at the zombie that was heading towards the alley where Bai Feng was lying. Maybe the scent of blood near the gas station had attracted it.
As Bai Meiyue rushed at the zombie with a large butcher knife in her hands, she didn’t even bother to look at Lu Yu, whose entire body went cold when he saw the dagger in his hands. He knew that this dagger was Lu Yin’s after all; he was the one who had given it to her.
He thought of how Lu Yin had followed Lei Yan just now and his heart started to beat harshly in his chest. He had noticed the way Lu Yin looked at Lei Yan and the Lei family had changed these past few days but he never thought that she would actually try to kill Lei Yan.
Did she lose her mind?!
