Chapter 154: Taking credit
“Where did you go just now? Do you know because you were not here, I couldn’t even get a bite of food!” before Meng Suisui could speak, Meng Anzhi lowered her voice and yelled at her. “These people are not my colleagues and didn’t show any face to me. If you were here, then I could have at least gotten a few packs of biscuits. But because you left, no one showed me any face.”
“You need to be more careful now. These are no longer the old times; now wait for the brother of Sister Xue to come back. When he returns, make sure to grab a few supplies for me and yourself as well.”
Meng Suisui, who was scolded so hard that the spit nearly flew on her face, was stumped. Her heart turned a bit more cold and she retorted, “What’s wrong? They didn’t give you any face even though you gave them the life-saving supplies of your cousins?”
Hearing her words, Meng Anzhi was stunned and her face turned a bit bad. She stomped her feet and said, “This and that are different.”
“How is it different?” Meng Suisui snorted. “You are really good, Anzhi. I thought that you were yet to understand that the world had changed. But it turns out that you have long learnt it. Its just that you don’t care about the lives of your cousins and gave the supplies to others, am I right?”
“How can you blame me for that?” Meng Anzhi didn’t feel like she had done anything wrong. “They were hungry and I—”
“Were we not hungry?” Meng Suisui questioned. “Do you think that I and Qibao can starve for days without eating anything? Or maybe you thought that since we are family, you can do anything, treat us as you want, right?”
Meng Anzhi didn’t speak and Meng Suisui pursed her lips. She knew that her sister was a bit selfish and wilful but was this just a little bit of selfishness?
Seeing that Meng Suisui was silent, Meng Anzhi panicked. Even though she wanted to win the favour of the actors she had once liked, she knew that she needed to rely on Meng Suisui for almost everything; she could not offend her cousin.
So, she hurriedly said, “Sister Suisui, there is no need to be so harsh on me, right? Once Sister Xue’s brother returns, I will save some supplies for you, alright? Will that do? I really didn’t mean any harm.”
As she finished speaking, her eyes turned red, and she looked at Meng Suisui with a pitiful look on her face.
Meng Suisui sighed when she heard Meng Anzhi’s words. She said to her, “This is what I wanted to talk about.” She pulled Meng Anzhi out of the house and to a corner in the carpeted corridors. She didn’t want others to hear about what she was going to say. “Anzhi, I think we should not rely on others. Even though Sister Xue’s brother is willing to share his supplies with others, he had exchanged them with half of his life. We should find a job—”
“Pfft, Sister Suisui, are you still dreaming?” Meng Anzhi snickered. “Do you think that the world is still the same as before? You can go out and get a job if you want? Instead of wasting your time, you might as well stay in the house and help where you can. At this point, what’s the point of being so prideful? There is no other choice but to rely on others.”
Maybe Meng Anzhi thought that she was a bit rude to Meng Suisui and softened her tone, “Don’t worry too much, sister. Sister Xue said that her brother is really strong and he can find a lot of supplies. I am sure that we will not go hungry in the future.”
“Are you going to rely on Brother Bai all your life?”
“This… I haven’t thought about it. But don’t think too much; we will wait for Brother Bai to return and we will talk about it later on.”
“If that’s what you want,” Meng Suisui sighed. She was really disappointed with Meng Anzhi; the reason she came here was because she wanted Meng Anzhi to become self dependent. But before she could say anything, Meng Anzhi stopped her from speaking.
From what she could see, Meng Anzhi was determined to follow Su Hu and Bai Xue. Since that was the case, there was nothing that she could do.
She sighed and turned on her feet to walk away.
Seeing this, Meng Anzhi couldn’t help but chase after her cousin. “Where are you going? There is still room inside. You and Qibao can squeeze in.”
“There is no need,” Meng Suisui looked at Meng Anzhi coldly. “There are enough apartments that are vacant because of the tsunami. I and Qibao can live in one.”
After speaking, she turned on her feet and walked away. Meng Anzhi, who was left behind, wanted to chase after Meng Suisui but then stopped when she heard Meng Suisui’s words. She raised her hand and slapped her cheeks. “That’s right, there are so many apartments that were empty. Why are we all squeezing into this one?”
She turned around and wanted to tell the others to go and find a vacant apartment but Meng Anzhi stopped herself in time. What was she doing? This was the right opportunity to make Su Hu feel indebted to her. If she brought this suggestion up in front of him, he would think that she was really smart and witty.
Meng Anzhi’s smile widened as she rushed inside the house.
When Su Hu heard Meng Anzhi’s suggestion, he agreed with her at once. The penthouse was only this big; how could they allow this many people to live together with them? Even Bai Xue had nothing against it, as she too was getting tired of the noise as well.
They hesitated for a moment before asking the survivors to go and find a vacant house where they could stay for the time being.
Though some didn’t agree, the majority of them left the penthouse, allowing Bai Xue to heave a sigh of relief.
