Chapter 165: Yan Wanning’s resignation
What Su Hu didn’t know was that not only did Bai Xue not care about his closeness with Xiang Mei, but she was already planning to use him to gain control over more supernatural beings like Xiang Mei.
What happened today caused a lot of havoc in the survivor group. More importantly, they might have lost their trust in her but if she were to make use of Xiang Mei and control these survivors, then she would be able to deal with Bai Meiyue.
And with Xiang Mei awakening as a supernatural being, she wouldn’t have to worry about starving. Even if the people in the group were starved, Su Hu wouldn’t let her starve.
It may be because Bai Xue was too focused on gaining power and stomping on Bai Meiyue’s head that she didn’t even notice that Xiang Mei was blushing like a shy girl in Su Hu’s arms.
But even if she had seen it, Bai Xue wouldn’t have cared about it. She looked down on her hands and pursed her lips angrily. Why did she not awaken? Someone like Xiang Mei, who didn’t have anything that she could compare with her, could awaken so why not her?
She didn’t delve into the ins and outs of the matter and simply blamed the heavens for being unfair. What she didn’t know was that it was due to Xiang Mei’s injury that the woman was able to awaken.
After Bai Xue was done complaining, her mind swiftly started wondering how she could take advantage of Xiang Mei’s magical power. No matter what, she had to come up with a sure sort of way that would ensure her safety.
While Bai Xue was lost in her own world and was thinking of a way to survive, Bai Meiyue turned around and returned to her own house. She was still holding the butcher knife in her hand as she strode past the corridor. Bai Meiyue first took care of the corpses that were lying on the floor.
She also beheaded the zombies who came upstairs when they smelt the scent of blood. Collecting the nuclei, she returned to her home.
Yan Wanning was waiting for her inside the house nervously. When she saw Bai Meiyue return, Yan Wanning ran up to her daughter and hugged her tightly. She sobbed harshly.
“These people are worse than those monsters. They are really lawless, if not—if not for you, they would have killed us all.”
“It’s okay, mom. Everything is alright; this is why I told you to not show mercy to these people. Kill them if you can.”
Bai Meiyue sighed; in the upcoming days, her mother would soon realise that the zombies were not as terrifying as they looked. In the apocalypse, the most terrifying thing was the human heart. No matter how powerful or resourceful these people were in the past, they would fight to the death for the smallest supplies in the apocalypse.
And if they found someone they could depend on, they would think of ways to avoid fighting but push their saviour to keep them safe till the end. Bai Feng had no idea what kind of mess he had taken over.
Because now these survivors no longer had the gratitude that they once had. If anything, they believe that Bai Feng needed to keep them safe since he took responsibility.
Although Bai Meiyue didn’t completely turn into a monster like the ones outside, she had seen enough cruelty from humans in her last life. She hoped that her family wouldn’t have to see that kind of darkness. If possible, she would try to protect them to the best of her ability, but she knew that even with her greatest protection, her mother and two brothers had to face the endless cruelty of this world.
After she finished comforting her mother, she raised her head and looked at Wang Ba and the rest. She could see the many injuries that they received due to fighting with the crowd of survivors just now.
She frowned seeing the scratches and swelling before heading upstairs; she took out some medicine from her space pocket and placed it in a plastic bag before climbing downstairs. She handed the bag to her mother and said to her,
“Mom, help them to deal with their wounds. Check if they are seriously injured—if they are, then ask them to go back home and not worry about today’s wages. They would receive it just as usual. And for their help, we can add some more dishes. Especially pay attention to Sister Mian; I noticed that some men tried to take advantage of her just now.”
“I have also arranged some warm clothes for them, so hand them to them once they are done with their treatment.”
“Okay,” Mother Bai nodded. She took the bag of medicines from Bai Meiyue and hugged them like she was cradling treasures. She asked, “Yueyue, do we have enough medicine?”
She didn’t want to use these precious medicines and leave nothing for her family.
“Enough,” Bai Meiyue nodded and then said to her mother, “I will head downstairs and deal with the zombies. It seemed like the few zombies that were left alone had attracted more zombies. Just now I saw many zombies being attracted to the scent of blood. If we leave them alone, they will cause a flood of corpses.”
She turned to look at her two brothers and said to them, “Come with me. We need to deal with the rush of zombies.”
After she finished speaking, she raised her butcher knife and turned around to leave the house. Once she walked out of the house, Wang Ba, who was sitting on the couch, asked, “Why did Miss Bai leave? If there are new zombies outside, shouldn’t she stay inside?”
It was too dangerous for them to go out in situations like these.
“If she doesn’t go out, then how will we survive?” Yan Wanning sighed. “Without going out to kill the zombies, we can only wait to die.”
