Chapter 172: Do we have to be so tense?
As soon as Bai Zhan brought Bai Qian Han and Bai Jiuque, he thought that Fang Qing had no way to defend herself.
However, he underestimated the shamelessness of the woman in front of him. She not only glared at him but also put her hands on her hips as she snorted and scoffed, “Bai Zhan, they are just kids. Are you going to believe the lies of those two kids? Those two are used to lying. They lie every time they want to eat more meat!”
Hearing those shameless words, Bai Zhan was so angry that he laughed. “Fang Qing, have you seen how thin our two sons are? You think that I am blind? That I cannot tell right from wrong?”
“Bai Zhan—”
“Enough,” Bai Zhan stopped her with a chilly note in his voice. “I have told you my conditions. If you want me to hand you the supplies that I brought with me for free, then you can leave. I will not give you anything.”
Ever since he found out about the good things that Fang Qing did, he wanted to end their marriage. This was good; now that the world was coming to an end, no one had the time to condemn him for abandoning his wife.
Fang Qing’s face turned red. She still wanted to quibble but Father Fang was quicker. He sighed and agreed, “Alright.”
“Dad!” Fang Qing was shocked when she heard that her father was willing to go out and kill a zombie.
“There is no need to say anything anymore.” Father Fang was quite disappointed with his daughter. He could see that Bai Zhan deliberately brought Bai Qian Han and Bai Jiuque’s names into the conversation. If his daughter had lowered her head and apologised, then Bai Zhan would have given some supplies to her as the mother of his children.
But Fang Qing fought tooth and nail with him and even made such ridiculous lies.
If there was a chance of rebirth, then instead of working hard in fields and earning money, he would rather raise his children. Who knows what kind of education his wife has given to their three kids? None of them grew up properly.
Father Fang raised his head and looked at Bai Zhan before asking politely, “Can I exchange the supplies with you if I bring this nuclei thing?”
“Yes.”
Hearing his response, Father Fang nodded as he climbed down the stairs.
“Bai Zhan, if something happens to my dad, I will never forgive you!” Fang Qing wanted to stop her father but when she thought about how hungry she had been, she chased after her father for three steps and paused.
However, she didn’t want to take responsibility for any accidents. If something happened to her father, then her mother would kill her. So, she could only turn around and glare at Bai Zhan.
Seeing her actions, Bai Zhan was really amused. Now he realised why his sister said that in the apocalypse, the zombies were not scary. It was the humans who were scarier.
He curled his lips in a cold smile. “Fang Qing, I never forced your father to go out and kill the zombies. I gave him a choice to pick one; if you don’t want him to take the risk, then you can go ahead and stop him. What’s the point in screaming here?”
Fang Qing stiffened. Of course she knew that she could stop her father if she wanted to but the rumbling of her stomach stopped her. If anything, it was Bai Zhan who was at fault. If he had handed his supplies without putting such a condition, then everyone would have gotten the best of both worlds.
No matter what, the two of them were husband and wife—was it necessary for him to be so heartless towards her?
Bai Zhan snorted upon seeing her reaction. Though he could see Fang Qing’s little thoughts, he didn’t say anything out loud.
It took Father Fang more than three hours to find a lone zombie and kill him. Though the experience made him shiver with disgust and fear, when he thought about his son, he had no choice but to plunge his fingers inside the cracked skull of the zombie and then wrench out the crystal nuclei that were embedded deep inside the mush of the zombie brain.
Once he pulled it out, Father Fang felt like he had aged by more than ten years. He staggered back to the building with his shoulders slumped.
“Here,” Father Fang handed the crystal nuclei that he brought with him to Bai Zhan, who took it with a calm face and handed three bags of supplies to Father Fang. “Uncle Fang, I have been married to your daughter for more than ten years. Because of the rotten scheme that she and your family came up with, my youth has been wasted. In these past few years, I have worked harder than an ox and bull to raise your family. This is the last bit of mercy that I can show to you and your family.”
He could not stop Father Fang from raising his family. He had no right to interfere in that but he could cut off their relationship.
Fang Qing could forget about using his father-in-law to rely on him.
Father Fang looked at Bai Zhan complicatedly. “Do we have to be this tense…”
“I will try to talk with Fang Qing. She will figure it out one day and I will bring her to apologise to you and the kids. I promise, Ah Zhan, my daughter will pay the debt that she owes you over the past few years. There is no need for you to—”
“There is no need.” Bai Zhan shook his head. “I have given her more than one chance, and you know that, Uncle Fang. Don’t you know what kind of person your daughter is?”
When Father Fang parted his lips to speak, Bai Zhan interrupted him and asked seriously, “If I lock her up and starve her for days and then wait for a few years, do you think she will forgive me?”

“I believe that the best thing she could do as the mother of our children is to stay away from them.”
