Chapter 220: Qinxin Village
“Qinxin village,” replied Lei Qian as he took a bite of his apple.
As soon as Bai Meiyue heard his response, all the sleepiness in her eyes vanished. She stood up straight and looked outside the farmhouse from the small window that overlooked the sky.
“Qinxin? Weren’t we supposed to go to the City Hospital? Why did we drive here?” Bai Meiyue asked as she tried to calm her thumping heart. However, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t bring herself to calm down. This was where the golden antique was found.
However, before the antique could be sent to the capital, the world turned upside down. No one cared about the antique, and it was thrown to one side. So what if it was made of gold? Could it be eaten? With the world coming to an end, the food supplies almost ran out, and even the smallest transaction was done with supplies.
What about gold? In the face of survival, how could it be important?
Since that was the case, then she might as well take this antique and exchange it for points with the barter system. At least, it would be sent to a dimension where it would be treated with importance and care.
Lei Qian couldn’t see the curl of her lips because Bai Meiyue was looking at the other side. He shrugged and replied, “Dacheng wanted to come here; he said that Qinxin village used to be the main provider of many dairies. Since this village is far from the main cities that were hit by the tsunami, we could collect some cows.”
“Then did you?” Bai Meiyue asked as she turned to look at the man who shook his head and sighed heavily.
“No.”
“Why?” Bai Meiyue asked with a frown.
Lei Qian’s expression turned solemn as he replied, “They mutated.”
Though the Qinxin village was safe from the destruction caused by the tsunami, it was still not safe from the zombie wave. The villagers turned into undead, and the livestock they raised mutated.
Thus, the cows of the village were indeed alive, but they had long mutated!
Lei Qian could never forget the sight that he just saw. A bunch of cows were surrounding a corpse and eating it. It nearly made him throw up.
“So, what if they mutated?” Bai Meiyue rolled her eyes and looked at the man as if he was a fool. “Even if they are mutated, they will still give milk. You should have just caught two of them and brought them here.”
Mutated animals were not a new concept for Bai Meiyue. In her past life, cows, chickens, and every other livestock animal mutated. With the mutation of plants that turned them into flesh-eating monsters, the livestock evolved as well.
At the start, it indeed caused a lot of trouble and terror among the masses. But soon someone discovered that other than eating meat and becoming ferocious, the mutated cows and goats were still the same and could be milked.
Thus, they were once again captured, and new techniques were administered to raise the mutated animals.
After much research, it was found that the milk of these mutated cows was not only safe to drink but it also had double the benefits, which was good for children born with supernatural abilities.
Her son was surely a dual-ability user, and if he was as talented as his father, then there was a chance that Bai Cai might even inherit triple abilities. The milk of this cow might be just right for him to grow up as a healthy baby.
Bai Meiyue thought that she was quite lucky because, in the future, it will become harder and harder to find these mutated cows.
And yet this man!
She turned and glared at Lei Qian, who blinked his eyes innocently.
What now? What did he do wrong now?
Lei Qian felt like he was shot while lying down. Clearly, he did nothing wrong, so why was he being glared at?
“You really don’t know how to grab the good things!” Bai Meiyue snorted as she walked past him and went to look for a strong rope. Since she had found something good, naturally she would grab it.
Upon hearing her words, Lei Qian was even more speechless. What did she mean by good things? How was a flesh-eating cow a good thing?
While he was lost in his thoughts, Bai Meiyue had already found a rope and headed out of the farm house. She saw Yun Chuan sitting on the porch and looking at the zombies. He had created a long wall of thorny vines that made it impossible for the zombies to get any close to the farmhouse where they were staying.
“Are you guarding the house?” She asked the man.
“Hmm,” Yun Chuan nodded . “Chunhua said that she will take the shift over later on. So, I am guarding for the first half of the night.”

His voice was filled with melancholy, which made Bai Meiyue raise her brow and ask, “Are you alright?”
Yun Chuan nodded but then paused and shook his head with a sigh. He said, “I miss my sister.” with his hands dangling between his legs, he looked down at his palms that were covered in scars and calluses. “She often used to sit under the moonlight like this and drag me to stay away from her. The two of us would stay awake for a long time while eating cookies that she baked.”
He raised his hand and wiped his eyes with the back of his hand and said, “I often wonder what would have happened if I had only listened to her and mom and didn’t go to look for supplies. They told me that they were scared, and I, like a fool, told them that everything would be fine.”
“If only I hadn’t left the two alone…”
His voice turned softer and soon morphed into sobbing.
Listening to his sobs, Bai Meiyue reached out and ruffled Yun Chuan’s hair. She understood his grief and regrets better than the rest. After all, she too lost her little Cai in the most inhuman way possible.
Words of consolation were nothing but empty comfort, and she wasn’t unkind to say them to Yun Chuan.
She sighed and rummaged in a bag before —
