Chapter 271: Bai Zhan found the truth
The next morning, when Bai Meiyue opened her eyes, she frowned and felt a bit sensitive. She reached out and touched her stomach and sighed a breath of relief. Just now, she had no idea why but for some reason she felt a bit troubled, as if her son was being targeted. But how could that be possible? That organisation that targeted unawakened ability users to refine and research pills and medicines was yet to appear.
She sat up straight and rubbed her brows, not understanding what was going on. She pursed her lips and got down from the bed before walking out of the emergency room and heading to the restroom, where she cleaned herself and changed her clothes. Only then did she return to her room and take out a bowl of hot and piping noodles.
But just as Bai Meiyue went to take a bite, the door was pushed open and Bai Zhan stepped inside. His gaze fell on the hot bowl of noodles and then at Bai Meiyue who was halfway through taking a bite.
“Yueyue.”
Bai Meiyue closed her eyes and heaved a heavy breath. She said to her brother, “Close the door.”
What a tactless woman she was! She was so hungry that she actually forgot to close the door. Fortunately, the one who opened the door was her brother and not someone else or else who knows what kind of trouble might have started to brew for her?
Bai Zhan didn’t question her; instead, he closed the door and then walked over to the small bed where Bai Meiyue was eating the hot noodles. He wanted to ask her where she got the noodles bowl but before he could, he saw Bai Meiyue taking out another bowl from thin air and handing it to him.
“This… did you awaken some other ability?” Bai Zhan was stunned when he saw another bowl appear in front of him without Bai Meiyue doing anything.
Bai Meiyue paused and then hummed. It was not that she didn’t want to tell her brother about the Barter System. It was just that the origin of the Barter System was connected to her rebirth and she could not explain it to her brother. She was afraid that if she opened up even a little bit, she would not be able to stop herself and the last thing she wanted was for her brothers to carry the same grudge as her.
She owed them a lot. Because of her, her two brothers lost their lives, and her mother never saw a good day until the day she died. Bai Meiyue didn’t want to do anything that would burden her family.
Thus, it was better to keep the origin of the Barter System a secret.
She then said to her brother, “Don’t tell about this to anyone yet.”
Bai Meiyue was worried that someone would approach her with evil intentions if they were to find out that she had awakened some weird skill that no one had.
“You don’t have to tell me that.” Bai Zhan said to his sister. At the same time, he was glad that his sister was willing to trust him. He looked at the piping hot bowl of noodles and ate it with relish. This was not just a bowl of noodles; it was his sister’s trust in him!
The two siblings finished the bowl of noodles quickly and Bai Meiyue took one out for her second brother. Compared to her elder brother, it was easier to fool Bai Jixuan. Thus, when the two siblings sang along and said that it was something that they found in the hospital and cooked, the simple Bai Jixuan believed them without a doubt.
Bai Meiyue watched her foolish brother, who was eating the bowl of noodles without suspecting anything. If it was someone else, they would have already asked her countless questions about the fresh ingredients and freshly rolled noodles, but Bai Jixuan was simple-minded. He ate with relish and didn’t ask anything.
Seeing him like this, Bai Meiyue was glad that she had found her brothers in time or else someone would have sold her second brother and he would have helped them in counting the money.
As for her eldest brother, the poor man would be left with no choice but to look for two little siblings of his.
Once the three of them finished eating and drinking, they stepped out of the emergency room looking far more refreshed than the others. Even Lei Qian looked tired, as unlike Bai Meiyue, he didn’t have a space that had countless good things stored in it.
Seeing the tiredness on his face, Bai Meiyue pursed her lips and walked over before handing him a pack of bread rolls. It was nothing good, just a bun filled with fried noodles. Though it was not enough to fill his stomach, it was better than starving.
When Lei Qian saw her handing him a bun, his eyes turned red and he whimpered, “Yueyue.”
“Yuck, stay away from me.” Bai Meiyue pushed the man away after handing him the pack of bread and walked away. This man always had the habit of taking her entire hand just because she handed him a few a finger.
Lei Qian chuckled when he saw her walking away with a furious expression and flushed cheeks and hummed softly. It was working. His efforts were working.
Dacheng, who was watching their interaction while standing at the other end of the corridor, sneered coldly. He had to admit that Bai Meiyue was really shameless. She knew that she was carrying a child but she still didn’t refuse Lei Qian’s pursuit and let him chase after her. What did it mean? It meant that she was actually just playing hard to get.
Humph, what a bitch.
Though he had a lot to say to Bai Meiyue, he didn’t rush to cause trouble after all; he was yet to find an explosive piece of evidence, but once he does, it was going to be game over for that woman!
