Chapter 278: Caring for the child
Bai Meiyue rolled her eyes when she heard the words of the old man. She turned to look at the old man who was scolding them and questioned, “Then what about you? Old man, have you forgotten? As an elder, you are supposed to be kind and caring towards the younger generation. You ate the meals of these babies; don’t you think that before us you were the one who dropped his teaching on the floor?”

“Quick pick it up; your conscience is crying for you to pick it up.”

Her words made everyone burst into laughter while the old man stared at her resentfully. His face turned blue and red. He looked quite funny.

He said to Bai Meiyue, “You.. you are really too much. You are bullying the old and weak; I will report you.”

“Report me? Hah, this is the funniest thing that I have heard in a while,” sneered Bai Meiyue. She said to the old man, “Go ahead, report us. I want to see which police station in the country is working, and if you can find one, tell us too. I want to ask them why they didn’t come to save us?”

Her words made the old man bristle.

Yesterday, he bullied the doctors and the nurses in the same manner but now that it was his turn to get bullied, he couldn’t withstand it. He wanted to say something but he had no idea what to say!

Bai Meiyue sneered when she saw that the old man had stopped making a fuss. She turned on her feet and walked away, leaving the old man to fume. She was going to collect the crystal nuclei from Nan Zhi’s head. Since that woman turned into a level two zombie, her crystal nuclei might sell for a lot of points.

Once Bai Meiyue left, the rest of the team disbanded as well. Lei Qian walked inside the incubator room along with the rest of the doctors and nurses.

The incubator room was quite large and inside were many children who were brought from the orphanage, along with eight to ten babies who were crying at the top of their lungs. With their hands flailing, they were howling as loud as possible.

“Feed the babies first,” Doctor Cui told the nurses who were trying to coax the children inside the incubators. When they raised their heads and looked at him in surprise, he told them, “Doctor Zhou and Doctor Shen brought food for the babies.” He then turned to look at the older children and said to them, “You all come as well; your friends brought something for you to eat as well.”

The children cheered up and rushed towards their friends. They were really hungry!

Lei Qian walked over to the incubators and watched the nurses mix the milk powder in water and then make the solution for the babies to drink. His eyes stared at their milky faces and suddenly he felt his heart grip with something; he couldn’t help but wonder whether his and Bai Meiyue’s child would be this cute as well.

On the other hand, Bai Meiyue had no idea that Lei Qian was slowly having a change of heart. She first collected the level two crystal nuclei and then returned to the office, where Doctor Cui had kept the important documents after wiping clean the inventory.

However, just as she returned to his office, she realized that there was a separate small incubator placed in the corner. She walked over and saw a baby flailing inside the glass cage but he didn’t look human. Bai Meiyue blinked her eyes and tapped on the glass of the incubator and sure enough, when the baby opened his mouth and let out a cry, she saw jagged teeth inside his mouth.

“That baby has turned into a zombie.”

Bai Meiyue jumped and turned to look behind her; she saw Doctor Cui standing behind her. He took off the glasses that he was wearing and walked inside with a tired look on his face. “Watch your hands, or else the baby might take a bite off your finger. He might not look dangerous but he turned at least two nurses into those men eating monsters.”

After speaking he headed further inside the office and sat down on the chair before adding, “I have nothing valuable in my office.”

“Sorry,” Bai Meiyue touched her nose when she heard the words of the man. She didn’t think that she would be caught in the act. She turned to walk over to the table, where she saw a thick report with the words: Vaccine written on top of it.

She raised her head and turned to look at Doctor Cui, who said, “Don’t look at me. I did try to make a vaccine to protect humans against this trouble but unfortunately, it seems like it’s impossible for the time being. The research is still in the early stages and we cannot be sure about how the virus will develop.”

“What did you find?” Bai Meiyue asked, sounding curious.

“Nothing,” Doctor Cui smiled wryly. “It is too difficult for me to decipher the effect and cause of this virus for the time being. I need more research and more studies need to be done on these monsters.”

Bai Meiyue didn’t push the man and nodded as she could see that he was telling the truth.

“Doctor Cui, Sister Bai? What are you two doing here? Come with me. We need to discuss how to get these babies out of here.” Shen Zhen spoke to the two of them.

So, Bai Meiyue and Doctor Cui stepped out of the office without discussing the vaccine anymore. When the two of them arrived at the incubator room, she saw Jiang Li flash her a smile, which annoyed Bai Meiyue but she didn’t say anything and stepped inside the incubator room.

However, as soon as she stepped inside, she saw Lei Qian feeding a baby.
