Chapter 339: Not worthy of being connected to her son
“Sorry,” Bai Meiyue reached out and ruffled the little fur on the head of the little pup. “I forgot that you were not treated well in the past.” She was so excited when she saw Ciyi talk that she completely forgot about everything.
Ciyi shook her head and said, “It’s alright, master.” She paused, then she added, “I am really hungry, master. And if you don’t mind, can you bring me some meat? The liquid diet that you gave to me is not good.”
When Bai Meiyue heard the complaints of the little pup, she chortled. It was a good thing that the little thing was bubbly and not hung up on the past, or else it would be problematic.
“Alright.”
However, when Bai Meiyue turned around and headed downstairs, the scent of the durian that was left in the kitchen made her stomach churn once again. It seemed like her mother was in so much of a hurry to leave the kitchen that she forgot to put this stinky thing inside the fridge.
Bai Meiyue covered her mouth and tried to calm the nausea down but no matter how hard she tried to stop herself, it didn’t work. In the end, she had to turn around and head back to the restroom where she threw up again.
After a long time, Bai Meiyue slumped down on the floor. Her face was covered with sweat and strands of hair were sticking all over, making her look even more vulnerable than she usually did. It took her a long time to calm down. When Bai Meiyue felt a bit better, she got to her feet and turned to walk out of the restroom.
But as she turned on her feet, she saw her mother standing at the threshold of the restroom. She was looking at Bai Meiyue with a sullen look on her face but even then Bai Meiyue could notice traces of worry in her eyes.
“Mom.”
Bai Meiyue walked over to where her mother was standing. Her expression was pitiful as she stared at her mother, like a child who did something wrong but still needed the protection of her mother. When Mother Bai saw that Bai Meiyue was almost on the verge of crying; she reached out and hugged Bai Meiyue. She wiped the face of her daughter lovingly and questioned in a heartbroken voice, “What’s wrong with you, child? Why are you sick like this…?”
Though Mother Bai understood why Bai Meiyue was being stubborn, she couldn’t help but wonder if there was a possibility of giving up on this child. Because unlike her, who only needed to fight with her in-laws when she was pregnant with Bai Meiyue, her daughter was different.
She was living in the post-apocalyptic world. Mother Bai couldn’t even begin to imagine Bai Meiyue standing tall in the zombie apocalypse with a big belly. How was she going to survive!?
So, she didn’t dare to question Bai Meiyue. She hoped that her daughter would give up on this child. But upon seeing how Bai Meiyue was willing to ruin her body instead of giving up on the child, she felt worried.
Bai Meiyue didn’t understand. But as a woman who had given birth, the pain of giving birth was not something that could be withstood just by gritting teeth. It could nearly kill someone and on top of that— this was not the old times. With human society crumbling, where were they supposed to go when Bai Meiyue went into labour?
Who would take care of her? If it was a normal birth, then her daughter would be more or less fine, but what if it was a difficult birth? Where would they get the resources to give Bai Meiyue a C-section?
When Mother Bai thought about these things, she couldn’t help but worry about her daughter. She didn’t want to bring up this matter but now, upon seeing her daughter suffer, she couldn’t stop herself anymore; she needed to talk with Bai Meiyue.
Bai Meiyue was supported by her mother, who then led Bai Meiyue to her room. Just as the two of them entered the room, Mother Bai was thinking about how to breach the subject when Bai Meiyue who was sitting on the bed, raised her head and looked at her mother.
Then without giving her mother a chance to bring up the matter, she said to Mother Bai, “Mom, I am pregnant.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Mother Bai’s body swayed slightly but she never showed any signs of surprise on her face which showed that she already knew about Bai Meiyue’s pregnancy.
“Mom!” Bai Meiyue reached out to help her mother, only for Mother Bai to raise her hand and say that there was nothing wrong with her. She sat down on the small chair and questioned sharply, “Whose baby is this? Is it Su Hu’s?”
Though Mother Bai didn’t know who arranged Bai Meiyue and Su Hu’s engagement, she knew that her daughter was quite obsessed with the idea of marrying Su Hu. Since that was the case then there was a chance that this baby was Su Hu’s.
If that happened, then wouldn’t the man cause trouble for her daughter every day? That man was so shameless that he might even ask her for alimony in exchange for letting her daughter keep the child.
How could she possibly allow a man like that to be the father of her daughter’s child?
“Mom, you are thinking too much. That man and I are innocent; he never touched me.” Bai Meiyue was disgusted by the very thought of letting someone associate her son with Su Hu. That man sold her son for a few catties of grains, how could she let that man be called the father of her son? She could never allow that to happen.
Letting anyone call Su Hu the father of her precious son was nothing but an insult to Bai Meiyue and her son. No one was allowed to call that disgusting man the father of her son!
