Chapter 341: A mother’s fury
Mother Bai was unwilling. She felt that it was truly unfair to not only her daughter but also Lei Qian. When she was young, she too had to raise her children on her own because her husband was too busy frolicking with Chu Xia.
However, at least she had no regrets because she knew that her husband didn’t want her children and thus didn’t expect or hold on to him in her heart. But if Bai Meiyue were to let go of Lei Qian without talking with him, there was a chance that she would be filled with regrets in the future.
The one thing that Mother Bai wanted her daughter to do was to let Lei Qian know the truth about her pregnancy, at least if her daughter was to look back and Lei Qian was not with her, then she wouldn’t feel that she made a mistake.
Nor would she worry about what ifs.
Mother Bai knew that she didn’t have the right to say anything to her daughter but she still couldn’t help but say to her daughter, “Yueyue, you are being unfair. This is not just your child; he or she belongs to Lei Qian as well. He has the right to know about this child’s existence. Put yourself in his shoes and think about it.”
“If you were married and later divorced with children and he refused to let you see your children, do you think that you would have liked it? Since you cannot withstand the same pain, then why do you want to make someone else go through the same pain?”
She paused and added, “And if you don’t want to entangle with him, then you either chase him out of here or we will leave this penthouse. Since you decided to draw a clear line, then we might as well draw it.”
“Mom~” Bai Meiyue whined. She felt a little helpless in front of her mother. Though she understood that her mother was doing it because she was worried about her, Bai Meiyue still felt a bit annoyed when she thought about how her mother was intervening in her life.
But Bai Meiyue didn’t want her mother to keep harping on the matter, so she could only perfunctorily reply, “Alright, I got it. I will talk with him.” and when her mother narrowed her eyes at her, Bai Meiyue simply sighed helplessly and said to her, “I really will.”
“The sooner the better,” Mother Bai snorted. “Your belly is getting bigger and bigger with each passing day. If you keep hiding the truth, what would Lei Qian think of you? Maybe he will even doubt the blood of your child!”
Mother Bai could only urge Bai Meiyue to hurry because there were some things that she could not say to her daughter. Though Lei Qian treated her well, there was a good chance that he would change if he was to find out that Bai Meiyue was pregnant.
And given her understanding of men, if Bai Meiyue didn’t confess now, then the child in her belly would become a bastard. This was something that Mother Bai didn’t want to see. So how could she allow her daughter to ruin her life like this?
Faced with her mother’s nagging, Bai Meiyue had no other choice but to accept her wishes. As for whether she would tell Lei Qian the truth or not, it depended on her. Bai Meiyue already had a plan in her head and she had no desire to disclose her pregnancy to Lei Qian.
While she was lost in her thoughts, Mother Bai continued to nag in her ears. She told her all about what she should do or what she shouldn’t. From not walking barefoot to not eating too many cold objects. To wear socks and make sure that she doesn’t catch a fever.
At first Bai Meiyue was indeed listening to the things that her mother was telling her but then, after listening for a while, she couldn’t help but let her thoughts drift away. At some point, though she was listening to her mother, all the words that were being told to her were going in through her left ear and then coming out of her right ear.
It was only when Mother Bai heard her eldest grandson calling her did she turn on her feet and then head out of the room.
Bai Meiyue heaved a sigh of relief and thanked her nephew for saving her aunt. She dropped her head to the pillow and then closed her eyes before dozing off. After running around for so long, she was too tired. Even keeping her eyes open was becoming tedious.
When Mother Bai returned to Bai Meiyue’s room, she saw that her daughter was sleeping; she sighed and turned around to walk out of the room. Thinking about Bai Meiyue’s body, Mother Bai sighed once again. She wondered if her daughter would be fine with everything that was going on.
She raised her head and looked at the sky with a worried look. “Dear heavens, please protect my silly child.”
Mother Bai muttered a prayer and then turned to head inside the kitchen; she was thinking about making a bowl of nourishing soup that would help Bai Meiyue strengthen her body. She had heard from others that her daughter was once so thin that she barely weighed thirty kilograms.
She was that severely malnourished!
In the name of a thin and charming figure, her ex-husband reduced her daughter to a bullied and overly thin child who didn’t have even a single ounce of flesh on her body.
Years of prolonged malnourishment; there was no way her daughter was capable of giving birth. Since Bai Meiyue had decided that she was going to give birth, then she needed to help her daughter in preparing her body, or else who knows what kind of tragedy might happen.
The worries in her heart turned wild and she couldn’t help but head out with a bucket of dirty water and go to where Bai Qingshi was living at the moment.
