Chapter 379: Scheming against her
Madam Ai must have known that she was going to die, and yet she took the risk to scheme against her. She must have sensed that Bai Meiyue was not as indifferent towards her children as she was towards others. Thus, she gambled away her life for the sake of her children.

Bai Meiyue closed her eyes and sucked in a breath. She finally found her voice and agreed, “Alright.”

Hearing her response, Madam Ai curled her lips in a soft smile before breathing her last.

“It’s cold,” Wan Guofu rubbed his arms and stared at the sky. In the past, the mornings were filled with a glow that was brimming with hope, but ever since the world came to an end, the ray of hope seemed to have been lost. The sky was filled with a glowing red hue that only brought fear and dread, but no hope.

“Well, the temperature has been dropping quite a lot these past few days,” remarked Bai Meiyue as she stared at the two siblings who were staring at the freshly dug grave. She understood their pain but she had no idea how to comfort them.

Bai Zhan, on the other hand, said to her, “Go. They have been kneeling there for more than two hours. How long are they going to stay there?”

Though he felt upset about how Madam Ai had used her condition as leverage to dump the responsibility of her children on Bai Meiyue, he knew that it was not the fault of the two kids.

She sighed and then walked towards the two before patting them on their backs.

“She should be relieved now, right?” Liu Mei asked in a broken voice. “I know that she didn’t want to stay alive after our dad died. She wanted to follow him the day he turned into a zombie.”

“It is only for me and Ah Che that she held on for so long.”

Liu Mei’s voice was filled with distress and pain. And as for Liu Che, his pain was beyond words. His eyes were red, swollen and puffy as he stared at the tombstone.

After a long pause, he said in a hoarse voice, “Sister Meiyue, we will be fine on our own. You don’t have to worry about us.”

He knew that if they joined Bai Meiyue and her team, then they would only become a burden on them. They were neither ability users nor did they have any use when it came to hunting zombies. If they followed Bai Meiyue and her team, they would only make things difficult for her and the rest of the team.

“It’s fine,” Bai Meiyue indifferently stated. “I promised your mother that I would take care of you, so I will keep my promise.”

Though she was upset over Madam Ai’s scheme, she was not going to abandon the Liu siblings.

Liu Che didn’t say anything. He was, however, glad that Bai Meiyue was willing to bring him and his sister with her; at least with her taking care of them, they didn’t have to worry about dying while looking for their uncle.

“Thank you,” He lowered his head and bowed in front of Bai Meiyue. “We promise that we will not cause any trouble for you and your team.”

Bai Meiyue didn’t say anything. She was indeed upset that Madam Ai had dared to scheme against her, but she also knew that the two Liu siblings were pitiful children. They did nothing wrong, and yet their once-happy life was turned upside down.

Of course, everyone was the same, but Bai Meiyue cared more for the Liu siblings instinctively.

They soon returned to the Sunshine Deluxe Apartment, and the people who were guarding the garage made way for them almost instinctively. They had heard all about Bai Meiyue and her roguish actions. This woman was simply the devil incarnate; as long as anyone went against her, she would ruin them!

When Bai Meiyue saw that the survivors under Bai Xue’s team were filled with terror when facing her, her eyes were filled with grim satisfaction. Now that she thought about it, this wasn’t so bad after all; with how much Bai Xue hated her, she must want to kill her, right?

However, Bai Feng would never kill her, and the rest of the survivors were scared of her. Bai Xue must be going crazy just thinking about how she could but couldn’t kill Bai Meiyue.

Climbing up to their floor, they could hear the sounds of moans, and they were coming from the storeroom where she had stuffed the Lin and the rest. Bai Meiyue curled her lips when she heard the banging and smashing along with the screams of help.

The men who came with Lin did not awaken, which meant that they were like lambs ready to be butchered in front of Lin. Sooner or later, they would be done to death by Lin!

But Bai Meiyue didn’t show any mercy.

These men deserved it!

The news that the entire base had been cleaned up soon reached the other bases that the military had set up. The one in charge of arranging the leader of the bases was obviously rather upset. Master Yang looked at the kneeling soldier in front of him and rubbed the space between his brows. He questioned, “What do you mean the entire base was killed in just one night?”

Master Yang couldn’t believe that such a thing was even possible. How could such a thing even be possible? Though the ability users in the base on the east side of the city were not as strong as the ones at his, they were not so weak that they would be killed in just one night.

And if they were killed in just one night, what kind of terrifying force was behind it? Just the thought alone was enough to make Master Yang worry.

This was not good.

What they wanted was total control over this changed world; if a force so strong stood against them—wouldn’t their goal turn even more tumultuous?
